This week we looked at

Sizzling Starts using these

techniques:

• Start with a sound

“CRASH! The large silver and

red rocket came to a quick

stop as it fell from the sky

into the desert.”

• Start with action

The powerful wave crashed

on top of our heads as we

tried to swim into the water.

I tried to catch my breath

before another giant wave

arrived.

Sound words are also

called “onomatopoeia”

Activity 1:

* Onomatopoeia means a

word that imitates the

sound it represents.

Example: Bang! Pop! Zip!

* Listen to the story

“Summer Beat”, paying

particular attention to

the use of

onomatopoeias (sound

words).
