Y2 COMPUTING 15.06.20

This week, you are going to try and make a BRANCHING DATABASE.

This is an example of a branching database.

A database is an organised collection of data (information).

A branching database helps us to collect, classify, sort and present information.

Let’s see if we can do this together…

1. Go onto the Internet and load up this page:

https://www.j2e.com/jit5?fileId=zDFisvAfFjazae3z#branch

This should show you the example branching database above.

Press play and it will take you through different questions until you reach an animal. You can answer

YES or NO to them. This will hopefully show you what one is and what we are going to try and do

ourselves.

Page 2: Y2 COMPUTING 15.06.20 This week, you are going to try and ...learning.headlandscofeschool.co.uk/docs/Y2/1506/Topic.pdf · 5. Now, you have to drag the animals into the YES or NO box

2. Now load: https://www.j2e.com/jit5#branch

This is a new blank page for you to start yours.

3. Start by clicking on animals and then choose 6 animals and place them (by using the mouse to

drag them) into the white box.

4. Press sort. You will then be asked to write a question about the animals with a YES or NO answer.

E.g. Does it have wings?

Page 3: Y2 COMPUTING 15.06.20 This week, you are going to try and ...learning.headlandscofeschool.co.uk/docs/Y2/1506/Topic.pdf · 5. Now, you have to drag the animals into the YES or NO box

5. Now, you have to drag the animals into the YES or NO box (the thumbs up and thumbs down) to

sort them. Then press ok. It will now ask you to write another question for the animals that are left.

6. Keep going with this until all the animals have been sorted. Then you can ask someone to ‘play’

your database.

7. CHALLENGE: Can you add more animals to your database?

Or could you make a new database? This time, you can go back to the library and choose anything –

dinosaurs, aliens, etc.

Good luck!

If you want to find out a little bit more about databases, BBC Bitesize has some information here:

GEOGRAPHY

15.06.20

Quiz Time…

1. What is this?

2. What is the capital city of Northern Ireland?

This is going to be our last activity on this topic and then we’ll be moving on to our next and

final topic in Year 2. You need to do this activity with an adult so ask your Mum or Dad nicely

if they can help you!

You are going to become REAL geographers and do some fieldwork this week.

I would like you to choose a road. It may be the

road you live on or it may be a road near you.

normally use Headlands Road, which you can also

do if you live near school because it’ll be easy to

get to.

You are going to create a plan of the road,

showing the different land uses and buildings and

then you are going to attach a colour key so I can

work out what everything is (without you having

to write labels everywhere).

First, you need to go for a walk and make your

own drawing of what you can see and where

– if you have a clipboard or something similar,

you will look like a true professional!!!

Then, at home, with all the information, you

can start drawing the plan again but neater

and create a colour key to show what the

different buildings or land is being used for,

such as road, houses, shop, garage, factory,

greenway, garden, etc.

If you choose to do Headlands Road, there is a

‘Headlands Road Blank Plan’ on the next page.

Good luck, have fun and be safe – think about

road safety too!

Year 2, you DO NOT have to do all of them but something may just take your fancy.

They are only ideas!
