October is Economic and Community Development Month
Congratulations!
Mr President.
It is a great honour for the Club to be awarded as the
President of the Quarter Award of the District for Excellent
preparation and performance during the District Governor’s
Official Visit to the Club on July 07, 2015. The award was
handed over by the District Governor S A M Shawkat
Hossain at an exciting programme at Uttara Club.
The Club President Rtn Nasimul Hoq Majomder, PHF has
been leading the Club from the front in the past 4 months
with exciting programs and projects in keeping with
objectives as laid down in the five avenues of services to
meet the six areas of focus of the Rotary Foundation.
Let us all applaud the Club President and his Board of 2015-
16 for the excellent job done in keeping with the Rotary
theme for 20015-16 “Be a Gift to the World”.

Rtn PDG Dr Ishtiaque Abiduz Zaman PhD PHF stated
that Rtn PDG Iftekharul (Kitchlew) Alam PHF B MD is
a standing tall for such a long time and has been a
big brand Ambassador of RCD that we are all proud
of becoming members of RCD.
Rtn PDG Iftekharul Alam PHF B MD in his speech
stated that “I am proud to be a member of RCD’’. He
said that he has been a member of RCD for 61 years
with 100 percent attendance for 49 years. He felt
members of RCD maintain high standards in ethic,
moral and professional career. He recalled the 1st
District Conference he attended in Dhaka in 1956
and the 2nd was held in 1961. He emphasized
stating there is no hesitation in saying that RCD
continues to be the No.1 Club in Bangladesh as the
Club meets the challenges of time.
The President gave his heartfelt thanks to Rtn PDG
Iftekharul Alam PHF B MD for his brilliant speech and
also acknowledged the contribution of all the Past
District Governors and Past Presidents. He consi-
dered the Past District Governors as Perfect Direc-
tion givers and Past Presidents as Perfect Pointers.
The President offered a standing ovation as a mark
of Respect to Rtn PDG Iftekharul (Kitchlew) Alam PHF
B MD on the occasion of his 89th
Birthday. The
President further read out a letter written by Rtn Lt
Col (Retd) Syed Quamruzzaman, BGBM RFSM given
as a mark of felicitation to Rtn PDG Iftekharul
(Kitchlew) Alam PHF B MD.
Rtn PDG Iftekharul (Kitchlew) Alam PHF B MD made
an announcement of a humble donation of Tk.
10,000/- as being thankful to all the members of RCD
for giving him such a warm Birthday celebration to
be used to any RCD Project.
Minutes of the earlier meeting were unanimously
passed by the members. The Club Secretary Rtn
Barrister Shafayat Ullah PHF announced the date of
the next weekly meeting to be held on Tuesday, 20
October, 2015 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel, Dhaka
at 05.30 pm. There being no other important point
to discuss the President adjourned the meeting and
invited everyone for Family Get Together, Eid Re-
Union, Cultural Event and Dinner.

Minutes of the Regular Weekly Meeting of Rotary Club of Dhaka held at 7-00 pm
at Platinum Suites, Banani, Dhaka on Tuesday, October 13, 2015
The Rotary Club of Dhaka met on Tuesday, October
13, 2015 for their weekly meeting. The Club
President Rtn Md Nasimul Hoq Majumder PHF called
the meeting to order at 07.00 pm. The President
welcomed Rtn PDG Iftekharul (Kitchlew) Alam PHF B
MD to the Head Table. The President wished a very
Happy Birthday to the Legendary PDG and thanked
him for being at the venue on time. The President
also welcomed Rtn PDG Dr Ishtiaque Abiduz Zaman
PhD PHF to the Head Table.
Invocation was led by Rtn Mirza Quamrul Hasan PHF.
Birthday and Wedding Anniversary greetings were
read out by Rtn PP A K M Abdus Sobhan PHF.
The President made announcements of the following
projects:
1) SEE Project: The 2nd SEE Project Camp was held on October 3rd, 2015 in T&T Adarshaw Girls High School, Mohakhali Wireless Compound, Dhaka. A total number of 400 students were screened and out of which 60 students were given treatment. The 3rd SEE Camp will be held within November this year.
2) Breast Cancer Awareness Program: The Mega Press Conference was held at the VIP Room of the Press Club on October 10th, 2015 at 11.00 am which is observed as the Breast Cancer Awareness Day. The program was attended by the Club President of RCD Rtn Nasimul Majumder PHF, Rtn PP Khandker Badrul Hasan PHF and Rtn PE S M Anwar Hossain MPHF along with over 150 journalists and volunteers from Healthcare sector and different NGOs Organizations.
The President asked Rtn PP T I M Nurul Kabir MPHF,
B, PHS, Chairman, SKD Committee to update the
members about the SKD project. Rtn PP T I M Nurul
Kabir MPHF, B, PHS informed the members that the
SKD Committee is reviewing the progress of the
packaging. He further informed the members that he
met the President of SCAW and also visited the
SCAW Head Office in Canada. He also showed some
photographs of his trip. Furthermore, he mentioned
that he attended the Annual Meeting of the .org.

Brief Life0sketch of the Guest Speaker
Dr Nuzhat Chiudhury
Dr. Nuzhat Choudhury was born on 26
November, 1969. She passed S.S.C. from
Udayan Biddaloya in 1986 and H.S.C. from
Badrunnessa College in 1988. She obtained her
M.B.B.S. from Mymensingh Medical College and
Masters in Surgery in Ophthalmology from
BSMMU. She did her fellowship in Vitreo-Retina
from Islamia Eye Hospital, Bangladesh and L V Prasad Eye Institute,
India. Currently she is working as Associate Professor (Vitreo-Retina)
in the Department of Ophthalmology of BSMMU. Her particular field
of interest is Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP).
She has more than 20 publications in reputed international and
national Ophthalmic journals and over 15 conference talks. She was
on the Editorial Board of Examination Protocol (Ophthalmology) by
National Eye Care. Dr. Nuzhat Choudhury has pioneered the
establishment of ROP services at BSMMU and works closely with
Orbis International. She is also Co-PI of a collaborative research on
ROP with the organization. She has received several recognitions for
her scientific research including the prestigious 'A.Q.S.M. Harun
Memorial Award’ from the Ophthalmological Society of Bangladesh.
Dr. Nuzhat is currently the Scientific Affairs Secretary of Ophthol-
mological Society of Bangladesh (OSB). She was also the Treasurer of
Bangladesh Academy of Ophthalmology. She is a member of the
Bangladesh Vitreo-Retina Society and was the founder Cultural
Secretary of Projonmo’71. She is a Central Committee Member of
‘Ekattorer Ghatok Dalal Nirnul Committee’. She also anchors state
ceremonies and television shows and writes for newspapers. She
likes to travel and has visited more than 40 countries.
Dr. Nuzhat is the younger daughter of Martyred Intellectual Shaheed
Dr. Abdul Alim Chaudhury and Mrs. Shyamali Nasreen Chaudhury.
Her father is Martyred Intellectual Shaheed Dr. Abdul Alim
Chaudhury, an eminent Ophthalmologist, who was abducted and
brutally murdered during the intellectual killing by the end of the
Liberation war, in December 1971. Her mother Mrs. Shyamali
Nasreen Chaudhury is a renowned educationalist, writer and
recipient of ‘Ekushey Padak’ for her contribution to education.
Dr. Nuzhat is married to Dr. Mamun Al Mahtab, a Hepatologist,
currently working as Associate Professor of the Department of
Hepatology of BSMMU. They have two children, a daughter and a
son - Musarrat Mahtab (Shukonnya) and Mashrur Mahtab (Shurjo).
