HEIFER STATION, AN INOVATIVE TOOLTo speed up the genetic progress, and multiply the genetics of the best heifers, EVOLUTION International has set up donors stations.

Thanks to the accuracy of the genomic information, this innovative tool allows us to intensify the embryo production of high indexed heifers. In a sanitary controlled environment, our technical team is at the forefront of innovation in the area of embryo transplant.

BULL SEMEN PRODUCTION CENTERS Leader for cattle genetics, EVOLUTION International today has 4 bull semen production centres in the West of France for a global production of 6 million doses of semen each year.

The overall numbers that can be kept in these centers are around 600 to 650 bulls and in them at the present time there are between 500 and 550 bulls.

75% of the bulls admitted to the EVOLUTION International bull semen centers are Holstein bulls; some of them have an ISU up to 200 points and represent the very best of cattle genetics at the moment.

The quality of the bulls admitted requires strict attention to detail at all times, in particular with regard to health safety. Whether it is the health of the bulls, the hygienic conditions surrounding the semen or traceability, all the stages are controlled. The rules of procedure go beyond the obligatory constraints imposed by legislation.

To anticipate demand, in 2012, EVOLUTION International established one of the only two laboratories for sexed semen in France.

It produces straws containing semen, male or female, enabling breeders to choose the sex of their future calves. This is a strategy that pays, since the use of sexed semen is in full expansion.

The St Aubin du Cormier bull semen production centre is the most recent. Built in 2009, it routinely functions with 200 bulls.

LABOGENAOn 25 October 2013, the EVOLUTION cooperative acquired one of the most highly reputed genetic analysis laboratories and the only genomic analysis laboratory in France: LABOGENA.

LABOGENA was created in 1994 as an extension to the genetic analyses performed on animals by INRA (Institut National de la Recherche Agronomique). High-tech resources like the high throughput genotyping platform and its expert workers have made the laboratory a benchmark in the world of biotechnology.

The laboratory has done more than 300,000 analyses a year, 54% of which were in the bovine sector. Its areas of analysis are:

• Lineage

• Determining genes of interest

• Genetic anomalies and diseases

• Genotyping

LABOGENA is also a formidable resource when it comes to preparing for the future: the laboratory is already working on future solutions such as new generation DNA sequencing techniques.

FERTI+ / FERTI S+

FERTI+ bulls are known for their enhanced fertilising abilities (+ 5 Sire Fertility Rate): on average, when using conventional semen, they improve non-return rates by 5%.

For sexed semen, bulls with a better success rate as compared to the average for sexed inseminations have the distinction of using FERTI S+.

ROBOT

This mechanised milking system has come on leaps and bounds over the last few years and it requires an appropriate morphology, especially in terms of udder functionality.

This largely bars the following morphological criteria in udders: the position of teats towards the back, back-heavy udders, short teats and udder height.

The following complementary characteristics are also very significant, and the mechanised system is particularly vigilant about them:

can adapt itself to and make optimal

use of the resources available. The
