XXVII SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 3, 2021

Iguales ante Dios, Iguales entre Nosotros

No es Jesús el que toma la iniciativa para tratar la cuestión del divorcio. Son los fariseos los que, una vez mas, quieren “ponerlo a prueba,” colocarlo en contradicción con las leyes religiosas, acorralarlo, denunciarlo. Sin preámbulos, estos le preguntan: “¿Le es licito a un hombre divorciarse de su esposa?” Ellos saben que, según sus normas, si: “si un hombre se casa con una mujer, pero luego encuentra en ella algo indecente y deja de agradarle, le entregara por escrito un acta de divorcio y la echara de casa.” Pero, ya en casos concretos, había polémica. Existían dos interpretaciones de esta ley mosaica: a) la del rabino Hillel, que era muy permisiva y enumeraba una serie de causas de divorcio –entre ellas hasta el que a la mujer se le quemara la comida- que en la practica llevaban a que cualquier hombre pudiera dar a su mujer el libelo de repudio, y b) la del rabino Shammai, que solo permitía el divorcio del hombre un muy pocos casos. La pregunta capciosa a Jesús busca en el fondo que si el Maestro se situó en la posición de un u otro de los dos rabinos, sea visto como un interprete mas de la ley. Pero Jesús no se deja encerrar en la casuística. Responde a la pregunta del fariseo con otra pregunta: “¿Qué le prescribió Moisés?” Y el mismo Jesús se pone por encima de Moisés: “el permitió el divorcio debido a la dureza del corazón de ustedes. . .” Pero hay que ir mas allá; hay que ir a la mas autentica verdad del hombre, a la verdad del amor. Jesús no responde a la pregunta desde la ley mosaica, sino desde la verdad del hombre creado. Une los dos relatos de la creación del Génesis: “Dios los hizo hombre y mujer. . .los hizo hombre y mujer. . .y se unirá a su esposa y serán los dos una sola carne. . .” Y añade su propia conclusión: “lo que dios unió que no lo separe el hombre.” Finalmente, y de forma tajante, afirma que comete adulterio tanto el varón que se divorcia de su mujer y se casa con otra, como la mujer que hace lo mismo respecto a su marido. Por lo tanto, Jesús, a diferencia de las interpretaciones rabínicas, pone en un mismo nivel al varón y a la mujer. Uno y otro son iguales ante Dios. Uno y otro están llamados a vivir en relaciones de igualdad respeto, cooperación y mutuo amor

Equal Before God, Equal Among Us It is not Jesus who takes the initiative to address the issue of divorce. It is the Pharisees who, once again, want to "put it to the test," place it in contradiction with religious laws, corner it, denounce it. Without preamble, they ask him: "Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?" They know that, according to their rules, if: "If a man marries a woman, but then finds something indecent in her and no longer likes her, he will give her a written certificate of divorce and kick her out of the house." But, in specific cases, there was controversy. There were two interpretations of this Mosaic law: a) that of Rabbi Hillel, who was very permissive and listed a series of causes of divorce - including even the woman's food being burned - which in practice led to any man could give his wife the libel of repudiation, and b) that of Rabbi Shammai, who only allowed the divorce of the man in very few cases. The trick question to Jesus seeks deep down that if the Master placed himself in the position of one or the other of the two rabbis, he would be seen as one more interpreter of the law. But Jesus does not allow himself to be locked into casuistry. Answer the Pharisee's question with another question: "What did Moses prescribe for him?" And Jesus himself puts himself above Moses: “he allowed divorce because of the hardness of your heart. . . " But we must go further; you have to go to the most authentic truth of man, to the truth of love. Jesus does not answer the question from the Mosaic Law, but from the truth of created man. Bring together the two Genesis creation accounts: “God made them male and female. . He made them male and female. . .and he will be united to his wife and the two will be one flesh. . . " And he adds his own conclusion: "what God has united that man cannot separate." Finally, and bluntly, he affirms that both the man who divorces his wife and marries another, and the woman who does the same with her husband commit adultery. Therefore, Jesus, unlike rabbinical interpretations, puts the male and the female on the same level. Both are equal before God. Both are called to live in relationships of equality, respect, cooperation and mutual love.

Octubre 7, Fiesta de la Virgen del Rosario

Su fiesta fue instituida por el Papa san Pío V el 7 de Octubre, aniversario de la victoria obtenida por los cristianos en la Batalla naval de Lepanto (1571), atribuida a la Madre de Dios, invocada por la oración del rosario. La celebración de este día es una invitación para todos a meditar los misterios de Cristo, en compañía de la Virgen María, que estuvo asociada de un modo especialísimo a la encarnación, la pasión y la gloria de la resurrección del Hijo de Dios. Desde el principio de la Iglesia, los cristianos rezan los salmos como lo hacen los judíos. Más tarde, en muchos de los monasterios se rezan los 150 salmos

cada día. Los laicos devotos no podían rezar tanto pero querían según sus posibilidades imitar a los monjes. Ya en el siglo IX había en Irlanda la

costumbre de hacer nudos en un cordel para contar, en vez de los salmos, las Ave Marías. Los misioneros de Irlanda más tarde propagaron la costumbre en

Europa y hubieron varios desarrollos con el tiempo.

October 7, Feast of the Virgin of the Rosary

His feast was instituted by Pope Saint Pius V on October 7, the anniversary of the victory obtained by the Christians in the Naval Battle of Lepanto (1571), attributed to the Mother of God, invoked by the prayer of the rosary. The celebration of this day is an invitation for all to meditate on the mysteries of Christ, in the company of the Virgin Mary, who was associated in a very special way with the incarnation, passion and glory of the resurrection of the Son of God. From the beginning of the Church, Christians pray the psalms as Jews do. Later, in many of the monasteries the 150 psalms are prayed every day. The devout

laymen could not pray so much but wanted to imitate the monks according to their ability. Already in the 9th century there was in Ireland the custom of

knotting a string to count, instead of the psalms, the Hail Marys. Missionaries from Ireland later spread the custom in Europe and there were several

developments over time.

XXVII SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 3, 2021

San Francisco De Asis

Nació en Asís (Italia), en el año 1182. Después de una juventud disipada en diversiones, se convirtió, renunció a los bienes paternos y se entregó de lleno a Dios. Abrazó la pobreza y vivió una vida evangélica, predicando a todos el amor de Dios. Dio a sus seguidores unas sabias normas, que luego fueron aprobadas por la Santa Sede. Fundó una Orden de frailes y su primera seguidora mujer, Santa Clara que funda las Clarisas, inspirada por El.

Ciertamente no existe ningún santo que sea tan popular como él, tanto entre católicos como entre los protestantes y aun entre los no cristianos. San Francisco de Asís cautivó la imaginación de sus contemporáneos presentándoles la pobreza, la castidad y la obediencia con la pureza y fuerza de un testimonio radical. Llegó a ser conocido como el Pobre de Asís por su matrimonio con la pobreza, su amor por los pajarillos y toda la naturaleza. Todo ello refleja un alma en la que Dios lo era todo sin división, un alma que se nutría de las verdades de la fe católica y que se había entregado enteramente, no sólo a Cristo, sino a Cristo crucificado.

Oración de la Paz

Señor, hazme un instrumento de tu paz: donde haya odio, ponga yo amor, donde haya ofensa, ponga yo perdón, donde haya discordia, ponga yo armonía, donde hay error, ponga yo verdad, donde haya duda, ponga yo la fe, donde haya desesperación, ponga yo esperanza, donde haya tinieblas, ponga yo la luz, donde haya tristeza, ponga yo alegría.

San Francisco de Asis

He was born in Assisi (Italy), in the year 1182. After a youth dissipated in entertainment, he converted, renounced his paternal assets and gave himself fully to God. He embraced poverty and lived an evangelical life, preaching God's love to everyone. He gave his followers some wise norms, which were later approved by the Holy See. He founded an Order of friars and his first female follower, Santa Clara who founded the Poor Clares, inspired by him.

Certainly there is no saint who is as popular as he, both among Catholics and Protestants, and even among non-Christians. Saint Francis of Assisi captivated the imagination of his contemporaries by

presenting poverty, chastity, and obedience to them with the purity and strength of a radical witness. He came to be known as the Poor of Assisi because of

his marriage to poverty, his love for birds and all of nature. All this reflects a soul in which God was everything without division, a soul that was

nourished by the truths of the Catholic faith and that had given itself entirely, not only to Christ, but to Christ crucified.

Peace Prayer

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy;

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Rosario por las calles de Passaic. Esperamos que nos puedan acompañar este año a rezar el santo rosario por las calles de la cuidad de Passaic asi como lo hemos estado haciendo en los últimos años. El santo rosario empezamos en la iglesia de San Antonio de Padua, 137 Myrtle Ave en Passaic y recorreremos las 9 iglesias católicas en la cuidad. Esperamos contar con todos los feligreses y levantar nuestras intenciones para ponerlas en las manos de María para que interceder por cada uno de nosotros. los esperamos este viernes 15 de Octubre.

Rosary through the streets of Passaic. This year like the previous, we hope you can join us in the rosary through the streets of Passaic. This rosary will begin at St. Anthony of Padua Parish on 137 Myrtle St, Passaic and will go through all nine Catholic parishes in the city. We’re counting on you with your prayers to the Virgin Mary, as we pray for those intention we hold deep in our hearts as we put them in the hands of our blessed Mother to intercede for us. The Rosary will take place on Friday October 15, come and join us.

Holy Rosary - We’re inviting all parishioners to join us in praying the Holy Rosary at the parish chapel on Monday’s at 9:00 am. We hope we can count with you to pray and raise our prayers to God as we start each week. Come and join us.

Holy Hour. Come and join us in prayer at Holy Hour in front of the Most Blessed Sacrament. We gather at the parish temple in adoration every Monday, we begin with the 7:00 pm celebration of the Eucharist, followed by this Holy Hour.

Catechesis. We’re also preparing for the new Catechesis school year which starts this week. We ask that you keep in your prayers the students, parents and catechist as they begin their new year of religious education in preparation to receive their sacraments of initiation. Catechist will contact all those registered for classes. If you don’t received a call from them please contact the office so we can advise you of the times and update your contact information.
