Coming from one of the poorest country in the world, such as Haiti, have made

me a better photographer and designer in many ways. It opens my eyes to see the

world in many different point of views. It helps me appreciate every little thing

that I possess. Last spring I visited Haiti for a few days. While sitting outside, I

noticed this little boy playing in the dirt near where I was sitting. All of a sudden I

felt like I was back in time. Looking through those fiercest eyes of his, I

saw myself as that little boy. The way he was looking at me and the way

he was so focus while playing in the dirt reminded me of my childhood.

To Sonson it’s his way of life. A life that I use to live when I was a child.

Most people that are familiar with a

busy outdoor mall like CityPlace never

think about how quiet and empty it can

be late at night. It’s as striking as it is

during the day as is at night. The only

exception is it is occupy by darkness and

the lights surrounding the place. Lights

become the primary object that occupies

the place at night. It creates this visual

pattern that’s kind of difficult for our

naked eyes to capture. Long exposure

photography is a photographic

technique that can allows our eyes

to capture pattern of lights. Long

exposure photography allows our eyes

to see beyond what our normal vision is

capable of seeing. Lights can be a very

interesting subject to look at but our

eyes don’t usually focus on it too long

enough to even notice. My concept

behind this project was to capture

interesting lights that created

different kind of patterns around

Cityplace at night time. All the images

were taking at different exposures

ranging from 15 seconds to 30 seconds.

I chose to take away colors because it

was a distraction. This technique allows

the viewer to pay attention on the

patterns and textures that the lights

create around the place. Repetitive

patterns also became a key factor in

the development of this project. When

the entire place is empty, Lights become

the primary owner that rule the entire

habitation.
