    REMOVAL OF

    Foreign Objects& Contaminants

Chewi g gum ca best be

removed by usi g either ice or

a aerosol to freeze the gum,

which ca the be chipped or

broke off the turf bers. If gum

    has bee smeared across bers,

pea ut butter will softe the

gum so that it ca be wiped off.

Su ower seeds, pea ut shells,

    pistachio shells, etc. should be

removed by usi g a ha d held or

back pack blower. To mi imize

the moveme t of i fill, do ot

poi t ozzle directly i to the turf.

Use mi imal throttle to decrease

    the volume of air.

    Metal objects should be picked

up by a mag et that is attached to

    groomi g a d brushi g equipme t.

Moss, mold, or algae may appear

i u derutilized areas of the

    sy thetic turf, particularly

if it is i shade a d damp.

    Specialty products are available.

    Weeds are easily removed by

ha d if the i festatio has ot

    become too excessive. Treat-

    me ts are also available.

f d and beverageDo t allow food, sodas, chewi g gum, su ower seeds, chewi g

tobacco, smoki g, etc. o the eld. Set up dri ks for players off of the

eld, if possible. Provide ample trash a d litter co tai ers o site.

Chemicals and ther liquidsDo ot use clea i g chemicals co tai i g alcohol or aceto e

solve ts. Take care to avoid spilli g a y petroleum-based liquids

i cludi g fuel o to the surface.

Post sig age a d rules for the use of the eld to avoid

co tami atio a d damage.

If the eld is i a ood plai , cover it at the threat of oodi gwith a tarp desig ed to limit silt a d debris from

co tami ati g the eld surface.

Route eld access traf c i such a way as to mi imize the

    tracki g of mud a d dir t o to the eld.

Gr m The Sur ace &Maintain In ll Levels

Regular brushi g helps to mai tai u iform i ll levels, keep the

grass bers upright, remove debris, a d improve the eld appear-a ce a d lo g-term performa ce.

Keep In Mind:I ll should be about 15mm below the ber tips.

Improper i ll levels or compacted i ll ca lead to high

    g-max levels a d safety co cer s.

High use areas are pro e to greater i ll displaceme t.

Brushi g, drag mats a d proper rakes ca help redistribute

    i ll eve ly.

I ll may accumulate at the edges of a eld. If so, clea the

material prior to brushi g back i to the mai eld.

    Usi g a i ll depth gauge or a ail a d tape measure o

a grid patter is the preferred way to measure i ll depth

    a d co siste cy.

EquipmentUse a static brush for ge eral i ll leveli g a d to sta d up the

grass bers. A mecha ical sweeper or other specialty sy thetic

turf clea i g equipme t should be used to remove surface debris.

Do ot use mai te a ce equipme t before receivi g proper use

a d safety trai i g. Use o ly sy thetic ber bristles, ot metal or

wire bristles. Do ot use 6-wheel vehicles.

    Meth d & Directi nUsi g a average all-purpose vehicle, keep speed low a d avoid

sharp tur s. It is most effective to brush the surface whe it is dry.

The surface should be brushed i a umber of directio s,

alter ati g the directio i co secutive activities, but ge erally

i the directio of the i dividual pa els to avoid crossi g over the

mai seams. O differe t days, start at dif fere t locatio s so as to

alter ate the brushi g directio for each pa el.

brush Height SettingThe optimum brush height setti g will depe d o the model a d

type of equipme t, but will ge erally work best whe the brush

barely touches the tips of the turf. Do ot set the brush so low thatit digs i to the turf pile or backi g.

    frequenciesI ge eral, the freque cy will be related to the i te sity of use;

however, excessive brushi g ca cause ber damage which

over time will compromise the elds performa ce characteristics

a d lo gevity. (See maintenance schedule on following page.)

    field Rejuventati n

Field rejuve atio is a deep compactio a d deep clea i g of your

elds mature, the accumulatio of u wa ted or foreig co tami-

a ts is i evitable, especially deep withi the i ll layer. Eve ts,

such as oodi g or dust storms, may i troduce extreme levels ofco tami atio . Whe a eld begi s to show sig s of deep compac-

tio , such as high g-max readi gs or sig i ca t drai age issues,

full eld rejuve atio may be desired. These mai te a ce services

bers, a d ot i to the i ll; although this will ot be possible

if i ll levels are too high. Remove a d reapply pai t after

a maximum of four applicatio s to avoid build-up. Service

compa ies with specialized equipme t are available that ca

Heavy RainIf sig i ca t po di g occurs after heavy rai fall, it may be a

i dicatio of a variety of factors, such as clogged or damaged

u dergrou d drai pipes or discharge outlets, base u eve ess,

ot excessive, it te ds to melt rapidly, especially whe players are

    o the eld.

At times, however, it is ecessary to remove s ow or ice to make

the eld playable for a scheduled eve t. The worki g pri ciple for

removi g s ow is to do so as ear game time as possible. Use

I some cases it may be ecessary to use a weighted law roller
