Power Supply

Replacement Instructions

Follow the instructions in this sheet carefully. Failure to follow these instructions could

damage your equipment and void its warranty.

Online instructions covering customer-installable parts are available at

Note: Xserve RAID includes two redundant power supplies at the back of the enclosure.

When one power supply is not operational, the other provides power for the entire system.

You can remove or install a power supply while Xserve RAID is running; you do not need

to shut down the system first.

Warning: The power supply is a self-contained, high-voltage component and should

not be opened for any reason.

Important: Do not remove a power supply until you are ready to replace it. The drive

modules may overheat if a power supply is left out of an operating unit for more than10

minutes.

Tools Required

No tools are required for this procedure.

Removing the Installed Power Supply

1. For the power supply you want to replace, unplug the power cord from the power

source.

2. Lift the clip that holds the power cord in place and remove the cord from the back of

the power supply.

3. Pull down the handle at the top of the power supply and then pull firmly outward to

remove the power supply from the enclosure. (Figure 1)

Warning: Do not reach inside Xserve RAID when removing a power supply or

when it is out of the system.

Installing the Replacement Power Supply

1. Remove the packaging on the replacement power supply.

2. Hold the power supply by the handle and carefully slide it into the enclosure until you

hear it click into place.

3. Fold the handle up into place at the top of the power supply.

4. Attach the power cord to the back of the replacement power supply and secure the

clip that holds the cord.

5. Plug the cord into the power source.
