    Section 1: Using This Manual

    XP7202 Transmitter

The XP70 synthesized transmitter allows onscreenchannel selection of channels 1 through channel 60 viathe computer. The system prevents accidental turn-onsby requiring acknowledgement of the selected channelbefore a signal is transmitted. The system incorporates ahi-resolution dot matrix LCD display offering sophisticatedgraphics that are easy to read and understand. Two-modeltype programming offers airplane and helicopter pilotsprogramming options that will meet the most demanding

modelers needs. Control sticks are adjustable for springtension and length. Twenty-model memory storagecapacity allows programming for up to twenty separatehelicopters or airplanes or you can program more than onesetup for a single aircraft. Two versions of the transmitterare available: Airplane and Helicopter. The switchpositions are optimized for each model type, however, theprogramming is identical in both versions.

    R790 ScanSelect PCM Receiver

    The R790 ScanSelect is a high-performance synthesized,single-conversion receiver with 10KHz super narrow bandABC&W circuitry.

The ScanSelect synthesized frequency selections systemallows access to the user of channels 160 withoutchanging any crystals.

A narrow band ceramic filter for high-signal selectivityassists in rejecting cross-modulations from other commonradio frequencies, such as RC transmitters or local pagingsystems.

This receiver features Direct Servo Control (DSC) forcontrol of servos without radio frequency output.

The receiver has low current consumption.

The R790s Slimline design allows it to fit into most modelapplications.

The charger supplied with this system is designedto recharge your batteries at a rate of 110mA for thetransmitter and 110mA for the receiver battery pack.

    Transmitter Polarity

The center pin on all JR transmitters is negative. Therefore, the center pin on all JR chargers is negative, notpositive. This is different from many other manufacturerschargers and radio systems. Beware of improperconnections based on color coded wire leads, as theymay not apply in this instance. You must make sure thatthe center pin of your JR transmitter is always connectedto the negative voltage for correct polarity hookup.

    Charger

The pilot lamps should always be ON during the chargingoperation. If theyre not, check to make sure that both thetransmitter and receiver are switched OFF. Do not usethis charger for equipment other than JR. The chargingplug polarity may not be the same and equipment damagecan result. During the charging operation, the chargerstemperature is slightly elevated. This is normal.

    Advanced Digital Trims

The XP70 employs digital trim levers on aileron, elevator, throttle, and rudder. (Hover pitch and hoverthrottle for helicopters). The ADT (Advanced Digital Trim)feature is designed to automatically store the selected trimvalues for each model. When a different model is selected,

the previously stored trim positions for that model areautomatically recalled. When using the helicopter programeach flight mode has its own trim that is automaticallyrecalled each time that flight mode is entered.

Visual trim positions are displayed on the main screen. The trims also feature dual speed scrolling. Holding thetrim lever for an extended time will cause the trim rate ofchange to increase.

It is extremely important that your radio system becorrectly installed in your model. Here are a fewsuggestions for installing your JR equipment:

    1. Wrap the receiver in protective foam rubber that isno less than /8-inch thick. Secure the foam to thereceiver with #6 rubber bands. This protects the

receiver from shock in the event of a crash or a veryhard landing.

. The servos should be mounted using rubber grommetsand brass bushings to isolate them from vibration. Donot over-tighten the mounting screws; this will negatethe vibration absorption effect of the rubber grommets. The diagram below will assist you in properly mountingyour servo. The brass bushings are pushed from thebottom up in the rubber grommets. When the servoscrew is tightened securely, it provides the proper

security, as well as the proper vibration isolation, foryour servo.

. The servos must be able to move freely over their entirerange of travel. Make sure that the control linkages donot bind or impede the movement of any of the servos.

. Mount all switches away from the engine exhaust andaway from any high vibration areas. Make sure eachswitch operates freely and is able to operate over its

full travel.. Mount the receiver antenna firmly to the airplane

to ensure that it will not become entangled in thepropeller or control surfaces.

Normal:The transmitter can be used as a master or slave but theslave transmitter must have the same programming (i.e.

reverse, travel adjust, dual rates, mixes sub trims, etc.) asthe master.

P-Link:Pilot Link is where the master transmitter maintains controlof all primary and secondary functions (i.e. Dual Rate,Expo, Gear, Flaps, etc.) and only the primary stick controls(aileron, elevator, rudder and throttle) are transferred to theslave transmitter.

NOTE: If the slave transmitter is a normal transmitteror if another JR radio is used in normal TRAINERmode (not in a P-LINK/Slave mode), all programmingfunctions must match the master transmitter.

    Slave/P-link:

In the Slave mode, the XP70 is used as a slave radio inconjunction with a JR radio that is used as the master thatis in P-LINK mode; there is no need to match the slavesprogramming to the master transmitters programming.

The Exponential function allows two exponential rates tobe programmed and selected with a switch. Exponentialis available on the aileron, elevator and rudder channels.Changing the exponential value does not affect themaximum control authority but only affects controlsensitivity. Exponential is normally used to reduce controlsensitivity around neutral while still allowing high controlauthority at the extremes of throw. The sensitivity aroundcenter can be tailored using the Exponential function toprecisely adjust control feel.

Exponential rates can be controlled by their respectiverate switches (aileron, elevator and rudder), or combinedon a single switch (COM AILE, COM ELEV, COM RUDD,FLAP0 or FLAP). The choices for this are found on theD/R SWITCH SEL screen in the System Setup Mode forAirplanes.

The XP70 offers six (6) programmable mixes that allowstick or switch inputs to control the output of two or moreservos. This function allows mixing any one channel toany other channel or the ability to mix a channel to itself. The mix can remain ON at all times, or it can be switchedOFF in flight, using a number of different switches. Mixvalues are adjustable from 0 to 1%. Each channel isidentified by a four-character name (i.e., Aileron - AILE,Elevator - ELEV, etc.). The channel appearing first is themaster channel. The second channel is the slave channel. For example, AILE - RUDD would indicate aileron torudder mixing. Each time the aileron stick is moved, theaileron will deflect, and the rudder will automaticallymove in the direction and to the position based on thevalue input in the programmable mix screen. Mixingis proportional, so small inputs of the master channelwill produce small outputs of the slave channel. Each

programmable mix has a mixing offset. The purpose of themixing offset is to redefine the neutral position of the slavechannel.

NOTE: programmable mix and 6 have a builtin trim include function. If programmable mix or 6is selected and a master channel is selected thathas a trim lever (ie. aileron, elevator rudder orthrottle) the trim will operate both the master andthe slave channel.
