Google Apps provides students with a dynamic alternative to express meaningful answers through ICT. Compared to the conventional classroom setting, it was great giving students a break to type their answers instead of writing their answers. Students remained more alert and zealous in such a setting. This was particularly so for students attending structured remedial classes. Answers Come Alive through TinyUrl in Google Apps

As students like using ICT in learning, Google Apps is used as a tutorial tool to help students doing Social Studies and Geography.

Google Apps provides students with a dynamic alternative to express meaningful answers through ICT. Compared to the conventional classroom setting, it was great giving students a break to type their answers instead of writing their answers. Students remained more alert and zealous in such a setting. This was particularly so for students attending structured remedial classes.

1. Motivation:

Explain the importance of the lesson to motivate the student. Relate lesson to previous lesson or real-life situation.

On desktop, click Junglebyte.To capture screen: “Edit”, “Select All” and click white screen iconTo release screen, click red button on desk top

Click Refresh everytime the speed slows down

Part OneWORDLE1. S type in address: http://tinyurl.com/xmss401GE2. T types question: What is sustainable tourism? and asks to each students to write 3 single word adjectives that come to their mind on reading the question.3. After 5 min, T captures screen via Junglebyte 4. T COPY all words on screen and then EDIT (must be single word adjectives)5. T goes to: http://www.wordle.net/

6. On WORDLE, T click “CREATE”, perform EDIT and then PASTE and then click “GO” on WORDLE7. Words appear on screen. T does a overview of the definition by clicking “COLOUR”

and “LAYOUT” on the top bar for variation8. T COPY adjectives and paste on MICROSOFT WORD and pass over to Mr Wong after the lesson for printing.

Part Two (used also for Social Studies Structured Remedial)GOOGLE APPS1. T clears adjectives on screen and then releases blank screen2. T types in question: Tourism: blessing or curse?3. T instructs S: T distributes WS to students S will be assigned either the positive impact or negative impact:http://tinyurl.com/xmss401GEbless (get students to amend address on their worksheet)http://tinyurl.com/xmss401GEImpact S will be given 15 min to read and draft a response in MICROSOFT WORD S will write their name at the top of their response S will COPY and PASTE response into GOOGLE APPs4. To remove permission to EDIT, T signs in GOOGLE APPS again under Xinmin web.8. T chooses “All items”, tick selected file “Geography 401”, “Share”, “Get Link to Share”, “Get a link for anyone”, untick box – Also allow them to edit, “SAVE & CLOSE”

IT resources used included TinyUrl and Google Apps. It allowed students not only to write a time-based answer but also to view each other answers online. Students also got to view how their answers were marked and graded online. For the teachers, the answers could be further used as online teaching
