Instructions

- Revised crank arm length estimate to linear fit vs. inseam.

- Added virtual seat tube and seat tube angle estimates.

- Added provision to override program-generated estimates for contact points and frame dimensionswith constant or formula within estimation algorithm sequence.

- Estimated values for frame and component dimension inputs now displayed next to or below corresponding input cells on Frame Geometry Worksheet.

- Revised Calculated Reach 2 to diagonal distance.

- Rearranged CG calculator inputs for ease of use.

- Documentation updated for revisions and new features, instructions for making full-size frame drawing added.

Note: Because of the above changes, values in items 7 through 14 "Frame Dimension and Position Estimating Constants" in Design Library Records from previous versions will need to be modified if loaded into this version, and there is now an additional input value in this group. If previously used values are not needed, old design records can be converted as follows:insert a column immediately after item 6 (shifting all items from column 7-on to the right), and replace what are now items 7 through 15 with the current version's default values. These inputs are only used for estimating dimensions and do not affect the frame design in any way.

If previously used values are important:- 7, 9, 11, and 13 existed previously as 10, 12, 13, and 7, and are used in the same way- 8, 10, 12, 14, and 15 are new, and may be replaced with the default values in 7.01

Release notes for version 6.31 (July 2007):

- Reference point for horizontal location of saddle changed from pedal axle to bottom bracket center.

Page 4: [XLS]Bicycle Geometry 101 Spreadsheet Version 8.00john/Bicycle_Geometry/BG101_v801.xls · Web viewSeatT-Saddle Top Isec CS Rotation Due to DO Design Offset (projected, degrees) to

Instructions

- Method of estimating horizontal distance to sit bonelocation revised to use Femur Length and Inseam with adjustment factor (adjustment factor replaces fractionof femur length input on Frame Geometry Worksheet and Design Library Worksheet).

Note: Because of the above changes, two values in Design Library Records from previous versions will need to be modified if loaded into this version:Column 11, set to 1.0; Column 16, subtract crank length from old value.

Note: Miter profiles are drawn with the following assumptions:Head tube, seat tube, and bottom bracket are circular in section; top tube, down tube, and chain stay are circular or eliptical in section as specified by their height and width inputs, excepting the bottom bracket end of the down tube which is circular as there is no width input. The dimensions shown on this plot are always accurate, since they depend only on the height of the tubes at the joints.

- Independent variables must be Frame Geometry worksheet inputs (never Calculated Values)- Independent variable cell references (under "Value" above) are loaded into the Solver's "By Changing Cells" list- Frame Geometry input cells "pull" from independent variable value cells above- To use Solver, set corresponding cells on Frame Geometry Worksheet to read values from cells above either manually or use "Connect Solver Matrix Independents" macro

- Dependent variables may be any calculated output from the Frame Geometry Worksheet- Dependent variable values are "pulled" from Frame Geometry calculated value cells- Dependent variable cell references (under "Value" above) are loaded into the Solver's "Target Cell" (for min or max) or the left-hand side of Solver "Constraint" definitions

- Dependent parameter desired value cell references are loaded into the right-hand side of Solver "Constraint" definitions, or into Solver's Target Cell "Value of:" field (which only accepts numerical value, not cell reference)

- Constraint type (for reference only. Constraints are specified in the Solver Dialog Box)

Use any bike that you can adjust to get yourself into your desired riding position and a bathroom scale placed directly on a hard, level floor surface.

Center the front axle over the scale with the rear wheel on a support equal to the height of the scale. Support bike gently from side only or use a trainer stand.Center the front axle over the scale with the rear wheel on a support equal to scale height. Hold both brakes to get on, then hold the rear brake only and lean an elbow gently against a door jamb to balance, or use a trainer stand.
