GPEH: The QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE for XEUS PRO 3
INTRODUCTION GPEH is a Performance Recording function which consists of two types of recording, User Equipment
Traffic Recording (UETR) and Cell Traffic Recording (CTR) that supports Ericsson network. Xeus helps you
to analyze calls, events, cells or phone models using GPEH data. It currently supports only Ericsson
WCDMA network. Refer to Appendix 1 for Ericsson GPEH Recording Steps.
LIMITING THE GPEH DATA COLLECTION Depending on the analysis type to be performed in Xeus, user can limit the GPEH Event type to be
collected in GPEH in order to reduce RNC processor load for recording. RNC has a parameter
gpehDataLevel that determines the level of information to record for the external protocol such as RRC
and RANAP.
The default setting of the parameter is 0 = 'HEADER_DATA_ONLY', which records only the external
protocol message name and direction of the message. In order to record the encoded ASN.1 data of the
external message, the OSS administrator can set the parameter to 1 = ‘ALL DATA’. This will allow detail
analysis of the external protocol message. However, this is only recommended for small recording set of
cells to avoid overloading the RNC processor or the GPEH data file limit. Refer to Appendix 1 for steps on
how to configure the GPEH collection parameter at the RNC.
Following are the features in Xeus which requires gpehDataLevel set to 1 = ‘ALL DATA’:
• IMEI info for Phone Profiling
• Message detail for external protocol
• NAS Messages in the RRC Direct Transfer messages
• Active Set Measurement which include monitored set from RRC Measurement Report
• Call Setup Analysis drill down of Blocked Call Analysis

SUPPORTED FORMAT AND LOG FILE DATA Xeus supports GPEH/UETR/CTR log file formats such as .bin and .bin.gz. They are usually grouped in sets
and each set contains a reference file. The reference file contains links to other files in the set. It is
mandatory to import the reference file for the set. The reference file usually contains ‘0’ as part of its
name. Refer to the picture below as a guide:
Each set of log file data should contain the messages in Table 1 above.

GEOANALYSIS OVERVIEW AND PREREQUISITES GeoAnalysis is a new feature on Xeus which enables you to estimate a location using non‐GPS based
Network Measurement Recordings. Xeus uses GeoAnalysis to perform Geo‐locate using a combination
of OTDDA multi lateration and relative signal strength. Analysis on GeoAnalysis is done through plots
and reporting. Using GeoAnalysis, geo‐located events and measurements can be plotted and areas
where significant pilot overlaps identified.
Before performing GeoAnalysis, ensure that you have the supported network data that meets the
following prerequisites: 1. The network data imported must be either Ericsson Bulk CM or Ericsson Kget log file. The imported
Network data must contain the RNC and Cell that matches with the data recorded in GPEH.
Note: For best analysis or Geo‐locate through GeoAnalysis, it is recommended for you to
import the network data that takes at least an hour to parse.
2. The GPEH recording must contain RRC Measurement Report and NBAP Radio Link Setup Request messages.
3. Ensure that ‘Perform position estimation for Abnormal Released Calls/All Calls’ is enabled at ‘Import Ericsson GPEH/UETR/CTR log’ wizard.
IMPORT GPEH/UETR/CTR LOG FILES You
need
to
ensure
that
you
have

Neighbor Analysis You can also conduct Neighbor Analysis using GPEH data. Types of Neighbor Analysis which could be
done are:
• Neighbor Optimization
• Pilot Pollution.
Neighbor Optimization Neighbor Optimization ranks the top neighbors for the cell and also suggests action to be done to the
neighbor. To optimize neighbor for a cell:
1. Go to Neighbor Optimization page from Start Page at the GPEH address bar. Refer to the picture
below:
2. At this page, select the Ranking method: Merit Point and set the multiplier to decide the
ranking.
