Running costs reductionLEDs are a much more efficient light source than traditional fluorescent, HID or tunsten halogen lamps and are able to deliver a crisp, white light with the benefit of major savings on running costs. Typical reductions can be seen in the below examples.

Maintenance savingsThe extended life of LED luminaires means that costly and inconvenient lamp replacements are a thing of the past. The lifetime of most LEDs is 30,000 hours or more which even for 24/7 operation can be over 3 years.

Any comparison for light output and lighting performance must be separately verified as existing luminaires will have different lamp maintenance patterns and light output will vary accordingly. Please contact our Technical Department for a detailed lighting design when replacing existing installations on a point-for-point basis to verify that illumination levels will not be adversely affected.

For many years lighting design seemed a low priority in architectural considerations for a building. Today however it is recognised as a crucial element in the building services industry. Not only is lighting sometimes responsible for up to half of a commercial premises’ power consumption, but it can often be the finishing touch in a project which ensures achievement of an attractive, stimulating and dynamic environment for all users. With such vital considerations, it is clearly very important to ensure a qualified and experienced input by skilled personnel every time. The design of a lighting installation involves the collation of a wide range of information, all of which is crucial in helping the designer or installer to make the right choice. This process is often neglected, but forms the basis of all good lighting design. The information can be as involved as user work patterns or be as simple as the type of ceiling that is installed. An understanding of the application, the products and the science behind the design is vital. Tamlite Lighting have invested considerable amounts of time and money in the development of a professional and dedicated technical team that can provide the help and guidance that designers and installers expect from one of the UK’s leading lighting suppliers.

Illuminance averaged over the specified area, measured in Lux lx

Colour rending

The ability of a light source to reveal the colours of objects. Measured by the colour rendering index (Ra), the higher the number the better, up to a maximum of 100

Ra

Colour temperature

Relates to the actual colour appearance of the light emitted. TC (K) from the lamp: colour temperature from the lamp, commonly; warm, neutral, cool or daylight colour appearance, is worked out using the CIE Chromacity diagram. Measured in degrees Kelvin (lamps are usually listed in the form or of 835, 840 and 965). The first number is the Ra, the second and third are the colour temperature. e.g. 840 is an Ra of 80 and a colour temperature of 4000K

EfficacyMeasured in lumens per Watt, efficacy helps compare the amount of light available for each Watt of power

Im/W

IlluminanceThe luminous flux density on a surface, per unit area, known as the illumination level and expressed as E or Lux

1 lm/m² = 1 lx

Luminance The measured brightness of a surface cd/m²

Light output ratio

The ratio of the total light output of the luminaire to the output of the lamps (LOR)

The total light output of a luminaire Lumens

Maintained illuminance

This would be the illumination level for a designer which takes into account the depreciation of the lamps and the collection of dirt and dust within the area

Lux

Uniformity ratio

This generally represents the ratio between the average illuminance value and the lowest across specified area
