Overall Launch for Xbox One

Microsoft retail store will be the desired

destination for customers who want to experience

the Xbox One first hand, and learn about all of

the benefits.

To achieve this, we will

• Land in-store Xbox One demos and game play

that will live in the store and are not event

specific

• Deliver rich training to ensure we have the

most knowledgeable sales associates on the

Xbox platform

• Partner with industry celebrities (e.g.: Major

Nelson) and execute events building the

Microsoft retail store brand with gaming

audience

Midnight Launch Events

• Microsoft retail stores, both full line and

specialty, will host midnight launch parties for

the release of Xbox One on the evening of

November 21.

• FULL LINE:

• Date & Time: November 21 @ 10PM – 1AM

• All full line stores will host midnight launch

parties with $5k in prizes.

• In six locations, we will host larger Killer Instinct

Ultra Fighter tournaments with over $25K in

prizes.

• SPECIALTY:

• Date & Time: November 22 @ 12AM

• In all specialty locations, Microsoft retail stores

will open their doors for business starting at

12AM to sell Xbox One games and devices.

Overview

Microsoft retail stores will host six Xbox One Killer Instinct Ultra Fighter Tournaments in our six larger gaming community stores on 11/21 @ 8PM.

• Through a 16-console Killer Instinct Ultra Fighter Tournament, we will narrow 256 players down to one Ultimate Fighter per store.

• The winner from each location will be flown the following day (11/22) to our Jacksonville, FL store openings for a final Killer Instinct Ultra Fighter Showdown on stage right before the Macklemore concert on 11/23.

• The Showdown gameplay will be streamed on the large concert monitors for the 2000+ attendees to watch.

• Major Nelson will be our Showdown host, eSportsannouncer and commentator on stage with our finalists.

• Our Killer Instinct Ultimate Fighter Champion will be congratulated with a gold fighter belt and a final round against game creator Ken Lobb (still being finalized).

• Major Nelson and our Store Manager for Jacksonville will then introduce Macklemore for his concert appearance directly following the Showdown to fans in attendance.

What You Can Expect

Communication – You can expect the marketing team to be in contact with your store manager and CDS to work on event flow and planning. This will include conference calls and email communication leading up to launch date.

Excitement – We expect these six launch events to drive additional excitement, fun for customers and PR to our retail stores.

Matter – We are working with an event agency, Matter, to coordinate the larger scale launch events. Their event coordinators will be on site to manage the event execution in coordination with the CDS and Store Manager.

The following is a script you can use for stand up and down and to email to your team to get them amped about the midnight launch!

Hi, Team – I have exciting news! We’ll be hosting a midnight launch event for Xbox One! The launch is on November 21 from 10PM –1AM. We want to host an epic midnight launch event and to do so, I need your help! Here are some ways you can help promote the launch when engaging and talking to customer on the sales floor, at check out, at events, and at the Answers Desk:

1. PREORDERS: Preorders DRIVE game night attendance and sales. The more console and game preorders we have, the more attendees we have on launch night and the more sales we can rack up on launch night! Because we are out of console preorders, sell preorders of the launch night games – talk up how cool the new device and games are and promote the launch!

2. PROMOTION: When walking customers through our latest promotions, mention the midnight launch party as a great way to come out, have fun, bring some friends and have a chance to win some fun Xbox One prizes!

3. FLYERS: Flyers will arrive on 11/5. As soon as they arrive, I want those things gone! Hand them out to people who are in the gaming section, talk up the midnight launch when people say they are just looking or just browsing, ask them “Have you heard about our midnight launch parties? They’re pretty exciting with early game play, raffle prizes, giveaways for the first 50people in line and a great time for everyone!”

4. TALK UP EARLY GAME PLAY: Talk up the game play “We are one of the only retailers that gets early game play and it’s a key advantage for us!

5. TALK UP THAT MICROSOFT RETAIL STORES ARE THE HOME OF XBOX: We are the home of Xbox. More than anyone, we own the greatest and best console on the market, the console that outsold every other console in the world. Microsoft is the homeof Xbox One and if you’re going to buy your games anywhere, you need to buy them at the home of Xbox. We provide awesome launch night parties that are exciting for core gamers and good for the casual gamers as well.

• Can I make the midnight launch my own?

• YES! Each store should take the corporate guidance provided and then make the midnight launch special in their market and store. With the tools provided and the resources you have in the store, midnight launches are a time to craft a one of a kind experience for our customers.

• Can I outreach to my community groups to bring them in for the events?

• YES! You should absolutely proactively reach out to groups, the mall management, local schools, and other community groups to come in and drive awareness of the midnight launch party.

• Can I reach out to media, radio, newspapers, bloggers, etc?

• NO, we must let our PR team manage all outreach, but you may send out general request and suggestions for them to outreach to by emailing Paige Young.
