They identified a course of study that could reduce the usual eight yearmedical quest for the MD degree to as few as five and one half years. This pathway is definitely ademanding one, both in time and personal effort, but brings with it the ability to consolidate ones studytime as well as reduce the financial demands of tuition, housing and maintenance costs that accompanythe saved two and one half years in the standard paced curriculum.

Students are introduced to tissueorgan, muscular and central nervous systems functions and their relationships to the course of humandisease.

Histology and Cell Biology provides a complete understanding of structural organization of cells, tissuesand organ systems. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between structure and function. Students wildirectly observe micro-anatomical structures in the lab and begin using their knowledge of normalstructures in clinical problem solving.

Biostatistics and Epidemiology is designed to allow students to apply statistical analysis technique, withemphasis on epidemiology events. Students participate in data collection and presentation, basicprobability theory, the concepts of population, samples, correlations and regression, analysis, and

nonparametric methods of disease.Medical Embryology helps students to understand the patterns and principles of fertilization and normaembryonic and fetal development of mammalian organ systems. Students will also examine the teratologyof structure and functional prenatal anomalies in the developing fetus.

Basic Sciences (MD II)Biochemistry explores the relationship of macromolecular structures and chemical biology, with emphasison how they affect the course of diseases.

Medical Physiology provides an in-depth study of the complexity of human physiology. Students learnto apply a higher level of reasoning skills to all the major organ systems of the body as they are related tohealth and disease.

Neuroscience addresses the biology of the nervous system and its relationship to behavior and disease.Students cover neuronal structure and function, communication at the synapse, the gross organization ofthe brain and spinal cord, sensory processing, motor responses and higher function, and cognition.

Basic Science (MD III)Pathology instructs students in the study of biochemical, structural and functional changes in cells, tissuesand organs, which cause or are caused by disease. Students will expand and extend their knowledge ofnormal structures and functions into the realm of the disease process.

Medical Microbiology demonstrates the pathogenic microorganism processes that are necessary formastering the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of human infectious disease.

Medical Immunology instructs students about the role of the immune system in various human diseasesincluding cancer, autoimmune disease, infectious disease allergies, and immunodeficiency. Studentsactively research topics to understand clinical immunology as it relates to the study and processes ofdiseases.

Behavioral Sciences and Medical Ethics provides the prospective physician with the basic understandingof human behavior in the context of health and sickness. It also provides an opportunity for students ofmedicine to understand their own behavior in the context of various medical settings. Students becomefamiliar with major theories of ethics and justice and learn about care codes of ethics, ongoing disputes, patient rights, and research in this area.

Pharmacology instructs students as to the principles, language and classes of therapeutic agents. Studentsgain an understanding of distribution, metabolism, excretion, and the mechanisms by which drugsproduce thematic effects.

Physical Diagnosis initiates students to the process of interviewing, taking patient histories, and usingroutine physical examination techniques. Students learn how to document their findings in a mannerconsistent with current legal and ethical expectations and are exposed to healthy and non-healthy patientsduring this time.

MD V semesterUpon successful completion of Basic Medical Science, students transfer to our U.S. affiliate center to
