(a)Weekend Holiday Holidays provide a great change to students. They have a great significance not only for students but

also to the professionals of various fields who are burdened with loads of work and tiring commitments

throughout the week. During the holidays, they are all freed from their various burdens. They can devote the

time to their favorite pursuits.

Weekend holiday is very much necessary for any human person for it is the time when one falls at

rest after a week of busy schedule and heavy work. This is the time when one can pursue one’s hobbies

enjoying oneself and having a good time of recreation. A person during the weekend gets adequate time to do

whatever he or she feels like enjoying and relaxing one’s mind and body. For instance, children may have a

hobby of playing either indoor or outdoor games in order to relax themselves during this weekend. A family

may like to go for a small picnic together which brings all the family members binding them in love and

affection after a week of temporary separation.

The weekend holiday has positive results too. It refreshes a person to be active in the course of work

for the next week. It makes a person free of stress and motivates him/her for a better performance in the field

of work. It boosts a person for a better attitude and behaviour.

Moral: All work and no holiday make anyone’s life dull and boring.

(b)Nation’s Wealth

If good habits and healthy food contribute to a man’s wealth, trees contribute to a nation’s wealth.

Trees do more than just giving shade. They nourish the soil and prevent soil erosion. They aid human beings

with fresh air, cool shade and nourishing rainfall. Man’s selfish needs have become so innumerable that the

situation of wiping away the natural resources has slowly crept in. This ultimately leads to global warming

and a complete ruin of fauna and flora.

Therefore an awareness should be created among the public to stop felling trees. Students in schools

and colleges should be encouraged to plant at least two saplings in their life-time. If afforestation in schools

and colleges is encouraged, the students will gradually become apostles of this noble tree-planting mission

and create the same awareness everywhere. Let us save the surviving trees from the axe and man’s greed. If

the earth should live, tree should live.

Moral: Save trees, save life!

A Huge Blessing

A sea generally refers to a large body of salt water, but the term is used in other contexts as well. Most

commonly, it means a large expanse of saline water connected with an ocean, and is commonly used as a

synonym for ocean. It is also used sometimes to describe a large saline lake that lacks a natural outlet, such

as the Caspian Sea. Every sea is connected to one of the five oceans Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean, Southern

Ocean, Indian Ocean, Pacific Ocean or is landlocked.

Let us take a look at the exact harvest of the sea. The foremost thing that comes into the mind is the fish.

Fishing in the seas is a major industry of the world and maritime countries and their people depend on fish

for food. Another important item of harvest is the energy that could be produced by using the tidal waves.

There are countries where these tidal waves play havoc. But these waves could be suitably harnessed to

produce power. This possibility has not been ruled out and there are attempts afoot to tap this source. This is

how man gets a good harvest from the sea and in fact, it’s a huge blessing to human life.

Moral: Follow the river and you will find the sea. (French Proverb)

The Best Company A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as by the company he keeps. Books have

great value and they make good companions of man. A good book may be among the best of friends. Among

many varieties of books, a few of them elevate our character. The best books once selected always amuse us,

instruct us in youth and comfort and console us in age.

There is a beautiful saying, “Never judge a book by its cover.” Therefore when we take a book for

reading we need to scan and select it. Like a honeybee that sucks out the best part of every flower, we must

learn to take the best out of every book we read through as book is a true bond of man.

Moral: Love me, love my book. (OR)

Gandhi’s Spirituality Gandhi had a staunch belief in Absolute Truth. According to him, “For a hungry man, food is God.”

It does not mean that Gandhi was against the religious belief in God or any spiritual life. In fact, he was a

man of pure spirituality and for him spiritual life depended on spiritual pursuits.

To him, spiritual training does not merely refer to any sort of memorizing prayers and reciting hymns

either from one’s memory or from any holy book and book of prayers. He said a person begins his spiritual

training in starting to search for the Absolute Truth. He brings in the role of a teacher in explaining about his

spirituality. The teacher in imparting not only education but also the discipline becomes a role model for his

or her students. As the life and character of a teacher is always observed by all the students the teacher has to

be careful in his conduct and behaviour at all times irrespective of any kind of surrounding or environment.

The teacher is called to be honest and well-disciplined for it is that honesty and discipline inspires students

and makes them worthy citizens of a nation. So also, to Gandhi, a true life of spirituality must inspire others

and also help them to lead a life of pure spirituality.

Moral: Spiritual maturity is a lifelong process of replacing lies with truth.

Nature’s Gift

The mountains, which appear to us so gigantic, are really, compared to the size of the earth, only

small irregularities on the earth’s surface. They have been compared to the wrinkles on the rind of an orange.

All mountains and hills are formed of hard rock otherwise they would long ago have been leveled to flat

plains.

The fragments of rock fall into the valleys, and the smaller ones are carried down by the rushing

torrents, and gradually broken and rubbed and ground down into sand and gravel and mud. The mountain

torrents carry this sand and mud into the big rivers; and the rivers when they are in flood deposit it on the

land and thus enrich it. Even a small stream will bring down tons of sand and mud in one year. We therefore

owe to the mountains, fresh air, fresh water and fertile soil and it is indeed meaningful to say that the

mountains are nature’s gift to us.

Moral: Great things are done when men and mountains meet.

Cat remains in the house as a pet even when its master changes home. In other words, cat is

concerned only about its own comfort and desire. So, its selfish love is called as ‘cupboard love.’ But dogs

on the contrary, to find its master who moves out and are ready even to sacrifice their life for the sake of their

Our Winged Friends Bird watching is an interesting hobby. We enjoy watching them because there is a wide variety of

birds with very different habits, bird calls, nesting areas and so on. This hobby is a good teacher for all of us

because we learn here about the needs of the birds, kinds of food they consume and the trees where they nest

and rest.

The songs and colours of birds have inspired great poetry, music and art. But many species of birds

are perplexed and alarmed that human beings seem to encroach upon their habitats. Hence some of the

species have grown rare and some have become almost extinct. Man’s need and greed has made birds

homeless and lifeless. It is the right time for all of us to get into more research to preserve birds in order to

preserve nature and humans. Birds, being our winged friends can definitely make the world a beautiful place

to live in.

Comment: Birds are indicators of the environment. If they are in trouble, we know we’ll soon be in

trouble.

In modern life we have to face with many problems one of which is traffic congestion becoming more

serious day after day. It is said that the high volume of vehicles, the inadequate infrastructure and the

public transport such as bus, subway or train is not available and its quality is very bad, especially in the

developing countries. Besides, the highway and road network is incapable of meeting the requirement of

increasing number of vehicle. Coping with these difficulties, the government should make an investment in

the traffic faculties, namely, the public transport need improving to become more modern and convenient.

The head offices, the universities or hospitals often locate in the centre of city attracting a heavy flow

of people in rush hour. To handle this situation, the government should allocate suitably, for instance some

university or office will be moved to the outskirt of city. With great effort from each individualist and

government, our society will be definitely cleaner and well – organized.

Comment: We must accept the fact that transport and communications will bring the world in close relations.

Population Explosion Population explosion particularly in developing countries is due to spread of knowledge, improved

health standards and awareness among people about a healthy life, control of tropical diseases and reduction

of mortality rate or death control.

Advancement in medical science procures the health of school children and eradicates the deadly

diseases from the society. It also plays a vital role in increasing the life span of the people. Today, the living

conditions of people everywhere are the concern of all. Family Welfare Schemes should be popularized

through film. The happiness of a small family should be taught to the villagers. The only way to solve

overpopulation is realizing the importance of social conscience and working together for a better world

tomorrow.

Comment: We all worry about the population explosion, but we don’t worry about it at the right time.

Public Transport In the modern world, there are always problems in commuting. These problems arise mainly due to

poor and congested state of roads and too many vehicles in city. People in search of all facilities migrate

from rural areas to cities and therefore people become too few living in rural areas. The

public transport such as bus, subway or train is not available and its quality is very bad, especially in the

useful to build overpasses and more lanes in the streets. It is necessary to encourage people obey the traffic

rules which will make greatly change the problem of traffic.

Roadways and Transport departments need to work together in order to improve the appalling

conditions of the road. They must also create public awareness in use of road and ensure that the students are

Healthy Diet

Maintaining a healthy diet is the practice of making choices about what to eat with the intent of

improving or maintaining good health. Usually this involves consuming necessary nutrients by eating the

appropriate amounts from all of the food groups, including an adequate amount of water as it is shown in the

picture. Since human nutrition is complex a healthy diet may vary widely subject to an individual’s genetic

makeup, environment, and health.

Eating healthy, being active, and feeling good about you are the key ingredients to having a healthy

lifestyle. When a person eats healthy food, as it is vividly shown in the picture, they will be able to have

enough strength and energy to last them a whole day. So, in order to stay healthy, we have to eat the right

kinds of food, exercise daily, and stay clean so that we can feel good about ourselves inside and outside. To

live a healthy life or not is one’s choice at the end, and though there are new ways to improve one’s health

the role of a healthy diet cannot be underplayed. So eat healthy and live healthy. If we don’t eat healthy and

stay healthy, we might become lazy or catch a sickness really fast and die. So, I make a pause with this quote

“Healthy Me, I Feel Good”.

Moral: A healthy mind in a healthy body.

Punctuality Delay is dangerous. We must never postpone things. I we do so, work will get accumulated and will

set finished in a hurry in a slipshod manner. Time is our most precious commodity for more precious than

gold. It has a high value. Effective time management means accomplishing more in less time.

If the work remains unfinished, in trying to finish it, the quality of the work will get affected and

consequently will earn a bad name too. Hence we must never give room to laziness because prompt action

fetches good returns. Honest self-monitoring on an hourly basis can do wonders. The opportunity or time

delayed is an opportunity or time denied to succeed in one’s walk of life.

Cleanliness is Godliness The old proverb, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness” has much more truth in it than one may imagine

and one will appreciate the truth more and more as he/she grows older. Cleanliness consists in keeping the

surroundings clean and learning the habit of cleanliness at the young age itself. It also paves the way for the

formation of a good society.

We must at the young age learn certain good habits like not littering the streets, roadside with the

garbage and rubbish and advise all our friends to utilize the garbage bins appropriately to keep our society

clean and tidy. “Remember”, once said a great physician to his pupils, “that dirt, darkness and disease, all

commence with the same letter.” Hence a clean body is Godly and clean habits lead to good health.

Moral: Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Indian Railways

Railways are the most important means of transportation in present day India. Construction of

railways is dependent on physical factors like topography and climate besides other factors. Railways can be

successfully developed in the plains.

They, however, do not find favour in desert regions. In mountainous areas, the cost of providing this

service is very difficult and a costly proposition because tunnels and bridges are required to be constructed.

The development of railways is also not possible in areas experiencing heavy rainfall throughout the year or

where excessive snowfall occurs.

The railways in India provide the principal mode of transportation for freight and passengers. It

brings together people from the farthest corners of the country and makes possible the conduct of business,

sightseeing, pilgrimage and education.

The railways have been able to cope with increasing demand of passenger traffic. Railways are the

premier mode of passenger transport both for long distance and suburban traffic. Rapid progress in industrial

and agricultural sectors has generated higher freight traffic.

Comment: The Indian Railways has been a great national integrating force in the country.
