Reporting Absences

School Annual Implementation Plan for 2019.

At our next School Council meeting on Monday 25th February we will be discussing

the school annual implementation plan for 2019. Once the plan is endorsed, by

council, a copy will be available on our school website from the 4th March 2019.

Money and other Valuables

Please encourage your children to leave treasured possessions at home. Teachers

may look after money if requested but are not responsible for valuables/personal

items, which students bring to school.

Care of Others Personal Belongings

Students who damage or take others property or belongings will be required to

repair or replace the damaged or lost article. Personal property is often brought to

school by students, staff and visitors. This can include mobile phones, electronic

games, calculators, toys, sporting equipment and cars parked on school premises.

The Department does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools

and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

Student Attendance

I cannot emphasise just how important it is that our students regularly attend

school. Fundamentally if your child is not at school we cannot help them grow and

learn. If your child cannot attend school due to illness please let us know so we can

update our records. In 2019 we have a number of ways that you can inform us

about your child’s absences. We now have a school phone app, website and Parent

Portal. Each of these online tools will allow you to communicate with the school

about student absences. As always you can also call the school or send in a note for

the teacher. The most important this is that you use one of these methods to com-

municate with us about student attendance.

Kind regards,

Laban Toose

School Principal PLEASE NOTE

Literacy Intervention

Students have started attending literacy intervention sessions a number of times a week to improve their reading skills using the

Fountas and Pinnell Levelled Literacy Intervention kits. This includes rereading a previous book, phonics/word work, introducing a new

book, writing about reading and letter/word work .Some questions you could ask your child when reading to improve their decoding

include looking at the pictures for clues, sounding out and stretching out the word, reading on and rereading. Some questions you

could ask to develop comprehension skills include:

Who are the characters in the story?

Describe the characters in the story?

What is the problem in the story?

What was the solution to the problem?

What happened at the beginning?

What happened in the middle?

What happened at the end?

What new facts did you learn from reading this book?

Does this book remind you of any experiences you may have had or seen? Explain

Does this book remind you of another book you have read? Explain

How do the characters feel in the story? How do you know they feel that way?

What genre is the book? How do you know?

What is the author’s purpose for writing this book?

Mr Toose reading to students as part of our focused

reading program which is running from Foundation to

grade 6 daily.

Hola amigos,

Welcome to our fifth year learning Spanish, it has been a great

adventure and I can’t wait to see all the amazing learning in

2019.

This year we will be looking at improving our speaking, listen-

ing, writing and reading skills. I know we will enjoy many role-

plays, singing, dancing and cooking as part of our student

voice activities. I thought it would be fantastic if our students

could practise the Spanish High Frequency words at home.

Hasta Pronto,

Senora Romero
