Now in its seventh year, the Challenge for Charities event has become invaluable to the Lander nonprofit community and the Lander Community Foundation expects to continue with this success. Lander area nonprofits are increasingly aware of how important this event is to their fundraising activities. In 2011 and 2012 there were 25 participating nonprofits, and since then we have held at 35 (this year one dropped out early to make it 34). We expect similar number of participants in 2018 but that is uncertain as several new nonprofits have formed in 2017. As more nonprofits become involved, more funding becomes available for community outreach activities. We measure the event success by the total designated funds raised by the nonprofits (2011, $93,750; 2012, $120,200 ; 2013, $194,523; 2014, $171,741; 2015, $174,728; 2016, 232,000; 2017, 236,000). Additionally we measure success by the expansion of Community Challengers who donate to the matching fund pool and the total funds contributed to the Challenger pool. The number of Challengers in 2017 was 70 donating $91,357 as compared to 24 donating $39,000 in 2011. We had several smaller Challengers giving below the $500 level for the first time this year. We will encourage their participation as Challengers and hopefully bring their giving level up in 2018. Finally, we measure success by the nonprofit post-event survey. The LCF board carefully reviews these surveys and takes steps to improve the experience each year. This is an ongoing project of the LCF. Each year the July 4th Lander Half Marathon, 5k and Kids 1-mile Mad Dash serves as the catalyst to celebrate the Lander community and the important work the nonprofits do to make Lander a great place to live. As the race event has grown from 369 participants in 2011 to 840 in 2017, so has the visibility of the connected Challenge for Charities. Community Challengers are recognized in several ways including street banners, newspaper notices, posters and announcements during the race event. Recognition of the important contributions they make has engaged many of them to give annually. During the past two years we have also increased the visibility of the awards ceremony by collaborating with the nonprofit, Lander Live, to present the checks before the headline band of the evening concert takes the stage. Both Challengers and the nonprofits appreciate the recognition this event gives them. Other opportunities to collaborate with our nonprofit community include working with the Lander Art Center to design the race t-shirt and with Maker Space 307 on the bandanas the race winners receive as awards. Collaboration The C4C is a true community event reaching all corners of our community. The LCF Challenger pool includes donations from local businesses and individuals in the Platinum ($10,000+), Gold ($5,000-$9,999), Titanium ($2500-$4999), Silver ($1000-$2,499) and Bronze ($500-$999) levels. LCF Board members solicit donations for the Challenger pool and 100% of the board participate as Challengers. Each participating nonprofit contributes a minimum of 20 volunteer hours to the fundraiser. Over 700 hours of volunteer labor make this event possible. A Race Committee of six volunteers and two race co-directors spearhead the event. This event has galvanized local nonprofits to make the most out this opportunity for fundraising. A list of the 2017 participating nonprofits and Community Challengers with recognition benefits is attached as part of the budget document. We have over $17,000 of in-kind donations from 20 vendors and individuals that help make this fundraiser an huge success. Budget Narrative

Expenses for the 2018 event are estimated at $35,750. These budget items are entirely related to the July 4th Lander Half Marathon & 5K and marketing materials. The LCF has estimated $17,310 will be secured in in-kind donations. In-kind donations cover race items such as labor stipend donated back to C4C ($2000), timing system bibs & race timing labor ($2100) and race food ($500). Awards ($1000), banner hanging ($300) and advertising ($750) are also important in-kind donations. The race committee has elected to eliminate much of the schwag that was put into race bags and made it optional for participants to pick up at registration, thus cutting down on waste. The in-kind value of schwag is $2000. The remaining $18,440 will be covered by race fees ($26,000 based on 850 participants) and local city/county recreation grants ($5,000). In the event the expenses are lower than expected, excess race fees will become part of the Open Grant Awards Program. Challenge for Charities Budget Income: Income for 2018 event is projected at $359,750. $326,000 will be passed through to the participating nonprofits. Designated nonprofit donations are estimated at $236,000. The Community Challenger matching pool is estimated at $90,000 described as follows: $65,000 individual; $15,000 corporate; $5,000 private foundations; $5,000 Wyoming Community Foundation. The remaining $5,000 is in city/county recreation grants. WYCF funds will be used in the matching fund pool supporting all categories of nonprofits in our community from education to cultural, to social services and health--essentially allowing WYCF funds to go further in our community.
