Dear Families and Friends

Term 2 has gone very quickly. We have participated in a lot of activities during the term including Musica Viva, excursion to the Age of Fishes museum, Small Schools athletics carnival, Cross Country, Olympics Day, NAPLAN and much more.

A huge thank you to all of the people who came and assisted at our working bee. We now have a lovely view of the school as we enter Wyangala Dam. It has really opened up the space.

This week, we have working hard to complete all our work from Term 2 ready for Term 3. The students have been putting the finishes touches to their ‘Character Bag’ presentations and

completing their persuasive letters. The students have written a lot of great arguments supported by evidence in the text. In Mathematics, we looked at patterns. The students explored square and triangular numbers and discovered if you use counters you can make an array into a square or triangle.

We also looked at the Highest Common Factors of two numbers. Our first step was to list all of the factors of both numbers. Factors are the numbers you multiply together to get another number. Next, we had to work out which factors were common in both numbers and finally, we found the answer by writing down the highest number left. In history, we listened to four different Australian songs that were written about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples’ connection to Country. The songs were ‘Solid Rock’ by Goanna; ‘Beds are Burning’ by Midnight Oil; ‘Treaty’ by Yothu Yindi and ‘My Island Home’ by Christine Anu. The students had to choose one of the songs and design an album cover to represent the key message in the song.

On Tuesday, we joined Holmwood Public School for an Olympics Day. The students got themselves into groups and had to select a country in which they would compete under. In their countries, the students participated in the Opening Ceremony and the Torch relay. Next the students competed in the

renowned event of ‘Pool Noodle Javelin’. The athletic prowess of the Wyangala Dam Public School students was evident when Tahlia, Levi and Georgie all had a podium finish and we had the clean sweep. The students also participated in Balloon Relay, in which Levi took the gold and Hope the silver, Fly Swat Hockey and Tug of War. After lunch, the teams had to create their country’s Olympic Village using Minecraft. There were some fabulous buildings, high jump, racing tracks and Olympic stadiums built. (Photos to come) On Friday, we will be celebrating NAIDOC week, ‘Heal Country’, with a range of activities including cooking of Johnny Cakes, storytelling, art, and Indigenous games.

Thank you for fantastic Term 2. I am looking to a very busy yet productive Term 3. Amylee Knight Principal

The children have been working on their submission for this year’s Threatened Species Children’s Art Competition, an opportunity for children to learn more about threatened plants and animals, and for each child to share their views by producing an original artwork on a chosen threatened species. The children have recalled previously learnt art theory and are able to apply this to their artworks. They have experimented with colours and techniques to decide the ones that they most wished to use in their artworks. They are enjoying applying their own creative skills which is always a pleasure to see I love the individuality that children display, their ability to think originally and apply these aspects in their art composition.

Share Our Space is on again these winter school holidays.

About Share Our Space Schools are at the heart of our communities and we want to keep school spaces active all year round. Share our Space offers access to school grounds during holiday breaks.

Everything great about Share Our Space • It’s a unique program, where we open green

spaces and play equipment at participating schools during the school holidays.

• In this program, we focus on areas where there isn’t as much open community space.

• It provides a safe place for communities to connect and interact.

• It opens more spaces for people to maintain their health and wellbeing through exercise and sports.

• It supports the NSW Premier’s Priority to increase open space for the people of NSW.

• It highlights how important schools are to communities and how they support local people in a range of ways.

Key things to know about Share Our Space: • We’ll open participating schools from Monday 28 June to Friday 9 July 2021,

including weekends and public holidays. • We open the school gates at 8 am and close them at 5 pm each day. • Each school will have only one gate open during Share our Space. • School toilets are not open as part of Share our Space – plan ahead! • Please remember to maintain appropriate physical distancing and COVID-safe

hygiene practices when you share our space. We ’ll have signs up to remind you. • We provide external cleaning services twice per week during Share our Space, as

well as at the end of holidays. • Our open schools list may change due to emergencies or natural disasters.

We want to see how local communities are enjoying Share Our Space! Share photos and videos on social media using the hashtags #ShareOurSpace #LoveWhereYouLearn.
