OUR FOCUSWE FOCUS OUR WORK IN THREE KEY AREAS, BECAUSE NURTURING THE POTENTIAL OF KIDS, HELPING PEOPLE LIVE HEALTHIER, AND SUPPORTING OUR NEIGHBORS ARE FUNDAMENTAL TO STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES.We believe that to bring about meaningful change in individuals and communities, we must be focused and accountable. At the Y, we measure the success of our cause by how well we engage communities in our three areas of focus.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT Nurturing the potential of every child and teen.

HEALTHY LIVINGImproving the nation's health and well-being.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITYGiving back and providing support to our neighbors.

OUR COMMITMENT TO CHILDHOOD SAFETY The Meadowlands Area YMCA is dedicated to providing you and your family with a safe, welcoming atmosphere in all of our programs. Our staff and volunteers are critical to this goal. The YMCA has in place a comprehensive pre-employment screening procedure to screen-out staff and volunteers not suited for working with children. Additionally, our staff and volunteers receive Child Abuse Prevention training and are required to adhere to a Code of Conduct, which 1. Prohibits them from being alone with a child at any point,

including having planned contact with youth participants when they are off duty - including babysitting, play dates, and communication online.

2. Prohibits them from giving children any personal gifts or asking them to keep secrets.

3. Prohibits them from using their own vehicles to transport children.

Parents place their trust in the YMCA to help their children thrive.

OUR CORE VALUES – caring, honesty, respect and responsibility- are part of everything we do. Because of this, we place a great value on creating the most child-safe environment possible. Parents are seen as program partners so your feedback is important to us, especially as it relates to the staff Code of Conduct. Please contact a Professional Director by calling 201.955.5300 to share any observations, concerns, suggestions, and/or comments. You may also refer to our website for more information on this topic.

PRESCHOOL/CHILD CAREALL DAY AND MORNING OR AFTERNOON ENRICHMENTOur preschool/day care services offer full and half day options. Choose 2-5 days per week. Your child will love our preschool’s curriculum; every day will be a new adventure. If you would like to take a tour or get more information about pricing, please call 201-955-5300 x 29.

Children are like sponges – they watch and absorb knowledge, skills and values from everything and everyone around them. At the Y, we believe the values and skills learned early on are vital building blocks for quality of life and future success. That’s why our child care and afterschool programs are staffed with people who understand the cognitive, physical and social development of the needs children have to feel connected and supported in trying new things, and the caring and reinforcement parents and families need to help each other. At the Y, preschoolers experience early literacy, make friends, and learn about their world. Most importantly, children learn how to be their best selves, which makes for confident children today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow.

Healthy U is the nation’s largest and most comprehensive after-school childhood obesity prevention program. Created by the Horizon Foundation for New Jersey in collaboration with the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance, the program utilizes the evidenced based CATCH curriculum. The Meadowlands Area YMCA implements Healthy U in each of our child care programs and has a certified master trainer that fully trains our staff in the CATCH curriculum. CATCH is and acronym for Coordinated Approach To Child Health and is an after-school curriculum for children which emphasizes healthy nutrition and physical activity behaviors.

In response to a call for action by former First Lady Michelle Obama, the Meadowlands Area YMCA has signed on to be part of the YMCA of the USA’s commitment to the Partnership for a Healthier America (PHA) to focus on ending the childhood obesity epidemic. The Y’s will be implementing the Y’s Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Standards in our early childhood and after-school programs.

HEALTHY KIDS DAY 2017Summer is the time for kids to get up, get out and grow. But for some kids, exposure to activities that stimulate the body and mind ends with the school year. In fact, research shows that kids are prone to gain weight and fall behind in studies. On April 29th, the Y will celebrate Healthy Kids Day®, our national initiative to improve the health and well-being of kids.

GROUP CLASSES 18+ All classes are 60 minutes, except where noted on chart.

BarreThe barre workout is a blend of ballet, fitness and Pilates movements done at a calorie burning pace. This dynamic workout not only burns fat and calories but helps to tone your muscles.

Mat Pilates Mat Pilates is an innovative and safe system of mind-body exercise using a floor mat. It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. It also improves flexibility and agility.

PiYo Who says you have to jump, grunt, strain, and punish your body to get amazing results from your workout? Not with PiYo…PiYo combines the muscle-sculpting, core-firming benefits of Pilates with the strength and flexibility advantages of yoga.

Senior SculptThis 45 minute class is low impact, total body conditioning targeted to active older adults, but all are welcome. A variety of equipment is utilized to strengthen every muscle group.

Total BodyIn this program we will strengthen and tone your body, increase your metabolism, and help you to lose body fat and inches.

Yoga – ALL LEVELSWe provide a safe, supportive environment to explore the basics of practicing yoga while building strength and skill. All levels welcome.

Vinyasa YogaVinyasa yoga applies movement synchronized to the breath. Yoga poses run together and flow like a dance. The class focuses on body alignment, proper breathing and form. Expect to move, not just stretch. We will do sun salutations, and other moving asaynas (poses).

ZUMBA® This class features exotic rhythms set to high energy international beats. It’s easy to do, effective and totally exhilarating, often building a deep-rooted community among returning students.

ZUMBA Gold®

Zumba Gold takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same are all the elements the Zumba Fitness-Party is known for. It’s a dance-fitness class that feels friendly, and most of all, fun.

ZUMBA Toning®

Zumba toning takes the Zumba formula and adds a challenge with light weights. The light weights enhance sense of rhythm and coordination, while toning target zones, including arms, core and lower body
