• Over 5000 parents, children and teachers attended the public day (13th)

• 110 organisations, business and industry across the STEM community involved.

• 193 projects in the finals of the National Science and Engineering Competition

• 120 activity providers demonstrated science and engineering in action around the

complete spectrum of STEM

• Dedicated Careers and Teacher Program (Saturday Workshop)

• Lead Sponsors family evening 11th March attended by over 1000

• Awards Ceremony Friday 12th March attended by over 1000 guests including Lord

Mandelson

Educational Resources

The Fair will also feature an education zone on the show floor including:

•STEM CENTRE STAND- (With National Science Learning Centre and STEMNET)•Teachers networking area •University and College Stands•Sample resources (hardcopy) and access to the e-library

The Fair will provide ongoing promotion of resources pre event and post event to teachers, parents and guardians.

Partnering with the National STEM Centre, The Big Bang will have a dedicated collection in both the physical and e-resources library. Fair partners are invited to contribute their resources to the library by either submitting resources for The Big Bang collections (e-library or physical)

Contributing to The Big Bang Collection

• During March 2011 the physical library will showcase materials that teachers and lecturers may see at The Big Bang.

• (i) Check if your resources are already in the national [email protected]

• (ii) For new resources that you would like to be included in the physical collection, please email [email protected] with a short description of the materials you are sending to us. Please put ‘Big Bang’ in the subject line of your email.

• Contributions close 10th December (e copy) 25th February 2011 (hardcopy).

Careers Programme

The Big Bang has partnered with the Science Council to deliver a comprehensive careers programme for the Fair including:

• Careers Zone on the show floor with wide range of hardcopy resources and links to online directories / Tomorrows Engineers / Future Morph / Maths Careers etc

• Careers Quest with pre event and post event engagement • Speed Networking sessions pre bookable online (also open to competitors)• Development of subject specific guides to navigating the show floor• Enhancement of career messages in sponsor and activity stands

Reviewing the resources

• The Education and Skills Panel requested to become the Fair advisory body on educational resources submitted for inclusion in the Fair.

• Members of the Panel that volunteer to take part will be sent summary sheets and links to resources to review and comment on STEM representation- do we have all the key STEM sectors represented.

– Review process begins 5th January – 25th January– Estimate time of 4hrs to review
