JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title: Health and Safety Manager.

Location: Rangers Lodge, Hyde Park but regularly workingin all Royal Parks and outstations

Grade and Salary: Grade III £32,430-£39,101

Reporting to: Head of Parks Services

Important Functional Relationships:

Reporting to the Head of Parks Services, the post holder will need to develop effective working relationships with all colleagues across The Royal Parks (TRP) in both HQ and in all parks. In particular the post holder will work with Park, Estates and Events teams and with the Park Services team. The post holder will also work with contractors and concessionaires, in particular the Facilities Management and Landscape Maintenance contractors.

Important External Relationships:The post holder will need to establish a good working relationship with concession holders, contractors and enforcing bodies.

Main Purpose of the Job:The main purpose of the role of the H&S Manager in TRP is to support every other person in TRP to discharge their health and safety responsibilities. The role will also monitor and report on compliance with relevant statutory requirements. The post holder will help to improve health, safety, and welfare performance within TRP, providing support on long-term initiatives as well as developing solutions that address problems.

Main Duties/Responsibilities:

Specific duties include:

Providing strategic and specific advice and support based upon current legal requirements and best practice Ensuring that ExCom and Directors are kept appraised of safety law and changes to law and guidance Creating, implementing and reviewing H&S management systems in accordance with OHSAS18001 Ensuring that ExCom and Directors are kept appraised of H&S performance in TRP and the action required to continuously improve safety performance Creating and implementing policies, procedures and risk assessments which support the H&S management systems Designing bespoke solutions to health and safety problems Writing and reviewing policies, procedures and risk assessments

Providing advice on safety policies, risk assessments and risk control systems (applying guidance such as HSE Guidance) Provision of construction/facilities management/grounds maintenance contracts, related health and safety advice, including CDM, asbestos management and control of contractors H&S auditing and monitoring of both contractors and internal departments Managing and maintaining H&S related databases and analysing data Managing the Claims process to ensure speedy and cost effective resolution Carrying out specialist risk assessments (e.g. COSHH, display screen equipment, manual handling, fire safety, and machinery/work equipment) Accident investigation and root cause analysis Writing reports for TRP Board and ExCom Developing and delivery of health and safety training or identifying and managing a suitable training provider. Managing the TRP H&S Learning and Development provision Any other such duty as the Director responsible for Health and Safety shall deem appropriate.
