Exam technique.

There are some exam techniques listed below that you have discussed in lessons and we expect to see used on your exam paper.

1. Read all parts of the questions correctly, if the question is split into parts a and b re read the initial part of the question before answering each section.

For example in the question below the information written next to 1 is relevant to both parts a and b.

Or a further example the information written next to a is relevant to both parts (i) and (ii)

2. Always circle the command words so that you are clear what the questions are asking you. This will save time and make your answer more relevant to the questions. For example do not explain why something happens if the question only asks you to describe what happens.

There are also often two command words in questions by circling the command words it will prompt you to do both things in your answer. If you are unsure of what a command word is instructing you to do see the last page of this booklet for their definitions.

3. Always look for the number of marks before writing your answer. This will indicate how many points you need to make. A good tip is to put bullet pints in the answer space to show how many marks it is worth. This will then prompt you to write enough. For example;

4. If you are finding a question difficult do not spend too much time on that question. Follow the tips above to make sure you have understood the question and come back to it later.

5. Never leave a blank answer, if you are still struggling to answer a question when you have come back to it have an educated guess. You will NOT lose marks for a wrong answer and you will definitely get 0 for a blank answer. You never know some educated guesses might just pick up a few marks.

Most importantly NEVER GIVE UP!Make the most of the time in the exam and try your best.
