C. Essay

Essay writing forms a large part of the Delta assessment. It is important that the essay you submit is organised, coherent and accurate.

You are going to write about a specific teaching topic and how you taught it to a group of students.Please choose a different topic from the lesson plan you submit. For example, if your lesson plan is on grammar, choose a different grammar area, or a different system or skill.

These are examples of a suitable topic:

Phonology, e.g. prominence and connected speech Grammar, e.g. modals of deduction Lexis, e.g. idiomatic language Discourse, e.g. cohesion and coherence in an IELTS essay Listening, e.g. listening to news programmes Reading, e.g. deducing meaning from context Writing, e.g. business correspondence – internal emails Speaking, e.g. telling personal anecdotes

Once you have chosen your topic, use the following prompts to organise and write your essay.

Outline a group of students you have taught Give an overview of their strengths and weaknesses in your chosen area. Give reasons

for these weaknesses. Describe specific examples of procedures, techniques, activities and material that you

used over a period of time to address these weaknesses. Explain the rationale for your approach and evaluate its success.

Word Limit: 750 to 900 words

D. Supporting Statement

Please write a statement (maximum 300 words) about why you wish to follow a face to face course and why this mode of study is suitable for you.

E. Lesson plan and lesson evaluation

Send a lesson plan and post-lesson self- evaluation of a lexis or grammar lesson you have taught. You can copy and paste your plan below, or send as a separate document. Please clearly label if it is a separate document with your name and the title Lesson Plan. The lesson plan should contain the sections below.
