Welcome to H2O Walk for water, Walk for life

It’s a fun way of raising money for clean water projects around the world.Money will be raised by taking part in a sponsored walk which will take place between the weekends of the 19-26 of June 2010.

A few facts about water:

An estimated 1.1 billion people currently lack access to clean water.

Did you know that you that we can live for 28 days without food, but only seven days without water?

70% of the world’s water is used for agriculture, 22% for industry, leaving just 8% for domestic use.

1 Two theatre designers built the Hat and Feathers in 1860. It serves great food and has a relaxed

family environment.

2 The Dolphin Tavern knows how to give a master class in how to keep the dusty old locals ticking over during these

times of change. It has a simple menu ranging from sausage and chips to jacket potatoes and salad.

Drinks are averagely priced at around £3.40 a pint.

3 The Sutton Arm is a traditional freehouse with an upstairs dining room serving popular pub meals.

4 If you’re a lover of art, you might want to try Eter-prise, located in the stylish area of Clerkenwell. Known for supporting local talent, you can often

see great artwork hanging from the wall.

5 Maybe if your organising a stag do you might want to try Griffin. A vibrant and popular bar and

which is known for it’s in-house lapdancers.

6 The Square Pig serves delicious pub lunches along with the usual wines, beers and spirits.

7 The Hat and Ton is located on Hatton wall, between chancery lane and Farringdon tube

stations. This traditional London pub is a busy spot for business lunches, after-work drinks and city

style cocktail parties.

8 Clockhouse is a popular pub found in the heart of clerkenwell. They offer classic pub food and a

fine choice of beers, wines and whiskey’s.

9 The Bear. In age where every pub is trying to be a bar, here we find a

bar that is trying it’s best to be a pub!

INTERESTING WATER FACTS

1.1 billion people in the world lack access to clean water.2.6 billion lack basic sanitation.2.2 million deaths each year, mostly amongst children, occur as a result of the lack of clean water. An average American uses about 575 litres of water per day, the av-erage European uses 250 litres, while the average African survives on less than 19 litres per day. The recommended basic water requirement per person per day is about 50 litres. About 6,800 gallons of water is required to grow a day’s food for an American family of four.It takes 20 gallons (75L) of water to make 1 pint of beer.It takes almost 8 gallons (40L) of water to make 1 cup of tea. 1L of water weighs approximately 1kg. The average person in Africa and Asia walks 3-4 miles per day (5-6 kilometres) each day to collect water, making the return trip carrying 20 kg (approx. 20L) of water. That’s equivalent to walking ¼ mile for every litter of water you use

So, you’d have to walk 20 miles in order to take a 5-minute showerOr 8 miles to account for just 1 cup of tea.
