Welcome to the Presentation on
Overview of BRAC Education Programme
and C4D Priorities &StrategiesMay 25, 2015
www.brac.net
What BEP Is• BEP is an inclusive programme, now covering 5
major inter-related components, which organically evolved over last 3 decades.
• These are: Pre-Primary Schools; Primary schools; Support to mainstream Secondary schools; Adolescent Development and Multipurpose Community Learning Centres
In addition to these most recently we started working on Bridge school targeting primary level drop out children and Early Childhood Development (ECD) for children 0 to 5 years, in cooperation with BUIED and Health Programme of BRAC
www.brac.net
Goal Over arching goal of BEP is to supplement
Government of Bangladesh’s (GoB) efforts to meet the Education For All (EFA) and Millennium Development Goals (MDG) in education by 2015.
Focus on girls has been maintained and extended its reach further to include children with disabilities, from ethnic communities, in urban slums and those who live in difficult terrains (e.g. hilly, haor/water logged, char/river-based islands and coastal areas)

Learning• Constant innovation; monitoring and research
are essential to make low cost solutions effective
• Supplementing strategies often require changes in programme design and operations
• Last mileage coverage assumes business unusual approach and more local solutions including curriculum. All leading to higher costs.

Challenges• A one teacher solution represents a huge
challenge to ensure quality
• Assessing soft skill and integrating it to assessment system
• Moving from ‘better served to under-served’ areas created a new challenge to BRAC particularly re-engaging/employing experienced teachers
www.brac.net
Opportunity• Soft skill is another area that can
contribute to relevance and quality (video)
• Integration of technology into education offers new opportunity to improve quality
• Extension of primary education upto grade 8 will create new windows for human development
• SDG 2030 will create new momentum in education
