• USA emerges from the World Wars as the a global superpower. – USA briefly had the world’s largest Navy– Was briefly the only nuclear power– Had about ½ of world’s industrial capacity– All of the world owed USA’s bankers money– (had become a leading industrial producer by

1890 and continued to grow, while Europe destroyed itself)

encouraged spread of Communism
