Axis of powers

• Also known as the axis alliance, axis nations, axis countries, or just the axis.

• The countries that were apart of the Axis Powers were Germany, Japan, Italy.

• They fought in the second world war against the allied forces of Great Britain, United States, France, and Russia.

• They were defeated by Allied Forces.

Holocaust

• Mass murder of a certain group of people. • Hitler, the ruler of Germany, wanted to rid the

World of people he thought wasn’t as good as Germans such

• As Jews, disabled people, blacks, the sick, etc. • Gas chambers , work camps, mass murder • 4-6 million Jews were murdeded.

Kamikaze

• Were suicide attacks by military aviators from the empire of japan against navel ships in the closing stages of the pacific.

• Nearly 4,000 kamikaze pilots died about 14 percent actually hit a ship.

• Kamikaze aircraft were essentially pilot guides explosive missiles, purpose built or converted from a regular aircraft.

• Pilots who would attempt to crash their aircraft into enimy ships in what was called a body attack.

Pearl Harbor:

• Pearl Harbor is a Naval Base located in Hawaii and on December 7, 1941, Japanese forces attacked the U.S. naval base.

• It was a surprise attack and destroyed much of the United States' fleet, especially the battleships.

• In response to Japan’s attack, the U.S. declared war on Japan and entered World War II.

Rosie the Riveter:

• During World War II, the U.S. government recruited female workers to join the work force because all the men had been drafted into the military.

• So the “Rosie the Riveter” shows that women can do the job while the men are away fighting.

• “Rosie the Riveter” was not a individual but rather a campaign for women working in the factory during World War II.

Invasion of Russia

• The Germans invaded the Soviet Union in the summer of 1941

• 600,000 Soviet soldiers were captured. By October 1941, three million Soviet soldiers were prisoners of war.

• 100,000 people died of starvation and disease.

Japanese internment camps

• On February 19th 1942 Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. Under the terms of the Order, some 120,000 people of Japanese descent living in the US were removed from their homes and placed in internment camps.

• Life in the camps was hard. Internees had only been allowed to bring with then a few possessions. In many cases they had been given just 48 hours to evacuate their homes.

• Consequently they were easy prey for fortune hunters who offered them far less than the market prices for the goods they could not take with them.

Battle of Iwo Jima

• The Battle of Iwo Jima (19 February – 26 March 1945 or Operation Detachment, was a major battle in which the United States Military fought for and captured the island of Iwo Jima from the Japanese Empire.

• The capture of Iwo Jima would allow blockades and to destroy enemy’s air and naval troops.

• It was an important victory for the U.S. against Japanese.

The bombing

• Date- august 6-9 1945

• Located in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

• the atomic bombing was done by the us during the final stages of ww2.

• The atomic bombing killed 90,000 to 166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000 to 80,000 in Nagasaki .

• Large numbers died from the effect of burns, radiation sickness , falling debris and more.

• Six days after the bombing, japan surrendered to the allies and officially ended the war.
