There is no doubt that Glen Barton will be remembered fondly for his philanthropic work throughout the Peoria community. With his recent passing, the WTVP team wanted to share how he became more than a supporter, but a true friend of the station.Glen Barton’s connection and leadership for WTVP started almost 20 years ago, back in 1998. From the start he was a champion of WTVP’s success with generous donations of time, efforts and funds. He and his wife, Polly co-chaired the Funds for Forty-Seven Campaign for digital conversion. His charismatic personality and determined fundraising skills ensured the success of that campaign and many others. The Barton’s were instrumental in making the current station facilities, at 101 State Street a reality. Many in the PBS organization recognized the value of their work for WTVP. Together, they won the PBS National Leadership Award. It is a little known fact that at one point, Glen was recruited heavily to be on the national board of PBS, but he decided, much like so many other things, to keep his involvement local.
Glen’s decision to embrace WTVP as a cause close to his heart took place in his first weeks as Cater-pillar ™ chairman. This decision was certainly outside the Caterpillar corporate direction at that time. He showed real leadership in taking on a cause outside the usual corporate pet projects. Glen and Polly believed in the power of local television to bring education and the arts to the Peoria community in an entertaining way. (Plus, he loved MASTERPIECE Theatre!)
He will be missed. His contribution to public media in Central Illinois cannot be overstated and we here at WTVP certainly feel the collective loss, of a great supporter, champion and friend.
Thank you Glen!Gwen Ifill, a journalist to her core, who served as the PBS NewsHour’s co-anchor and managing editor and, in her own words, sought to always “tell the stories that shed light and spur action,” has died from complica-tions of cancer. She was 61.

PBS Kids— All the Time!Drum roll please… Beginning on January 16, 2017, WTVP will be broadcasting the new PBS Kids channel twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
What? That’s right! PBS Kids will be on ALL DAY LONG on channel 47.2. The new PBS KIDS 24/7 channel and live stream provided by WTVP will ensure that educational media is available to all families, all the time and via a platform that works for them. This is a commitment by our station to serve the needs of children and families throughout the WTVP viewing area.
“Parents know that PBS KIDS makes a difference in their children’s lives, which is why so many have said they would value having access to our content throughout the day. Television continues to be the most widely used platform for children’s educational content, especially among low-income families,” said PBS President and CEO Paula Kerger.
WTVP’s PBS Kids will be live streamed digitally on channel 47.2. Making it easy for children to watch their favorite series during primetime and other after-school hours when viewing among families is high. Viewers will be able to watch the WTVP-branded live stream through pbskids.org and on the PBS KIDS Video App, which is available on a variety of mobile devices, tablets and over-the-top platforms such as Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Xbox One and Chromecast.
Check out page 14 of this guide for more details.

Live From Lincoln CenterJoshua Bell’s Seasons of Cuba—Friday, Dec. 16 at 8 p.m.Grammy Award–winning violinist Joshua Bell performs with the Chamber Orchestra of Havana, composed of some of Cuba’s most accomplished classical musicians. Bell will dazzle the audience with a range of selections from Vivaldi classics, to Piazzolla tangos and more, building a bridge between Cubans eager to engage with American artists in a new landscape of cultural diplomacy. Earlier this year, the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities asked Joshua to be a member of the first official government to government bilateral initiative in the wake of President Obama’s trip to Cuba. The mission was to extend the hand of friendship to the Cuban people through the arts.

A New Year Brings Exciting Changes for WTVP!We are excited to announce the refocused channels of WTVP! Starting on January 16th viewers will experience the difference on WTVP channels.
Channel 47.1—Same great programsYou will be able to watch your favorites like Masterpiece theatre, Poldark and all your local programs on channel 47.1, just like always. The excit-ing changes are happening on channel 47.2 and 47.3.
Channel 47.2—PBS Kids—24/7Channel 47.2 becomes WTVP’s PBS Kids a 24/7 educational children’s channel. The pioneers of PBS like Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers) looked at television as a force that could level the playing field – providing every child with an opportunity to succeed. PBS reaches more kids in low-income homes than any other network. Now the children who are most in need … will now be able watch WTVP’s PBS Kids programming whenever they choose.
PBS is the only media organization dedicated to helping kids succeed, from their earliest years through high school graduation. Our commit-ment extends to the grown-ups in their lives, ensuring that teachers and caregivers have the tools they need to support children’s learning.
Channel 47.3—Combines two entertaining channelsChannel 47.3 will combine the quality programming of both World and Create. All your favorite DYI, cooking and travel shows will be available from Create. Additionally great choices like America Re-Framed, Local USA, independent films and documentaries from World will still be available for viewing on channel 47.3. Programming will be outlined in detail so look for more information coming in the January 2017 Guide.

4December 4 & 5—Gift of Giving With the holidays approaching, join Create’s lifestyle pros for some gift-giving inspiration. Travelers Joseph Rosendo and Rudy Maxa bask in the glow of Europe’s festive Christmas mar-kets. Lifestyle expert Katie Brown adds custom flourishes to store-bought gifts. Martha Stewart bakes a trio of homemade breads ideal as a present or as the centerpiece on your holiday table. And the Quilting Arts team make stockings to hang by the chimney with care.
4December11 & 12 —Julia and Martha Bake Creatives, pre-heat your ovens for the Great Create Bake-Off featuring Julia Child and Martha Stewart. Julia invites the country’s top pastry chefs into her kitchen for a master class on baking, while Martha shares her tips and techniques for making cookies, breads and beignets from scratch. The pair even joins forces to create a three-tiered wedding cake decorated with yellow buttercreme icing and handmade marzipan fruit.
4December18 & 19—One-Pot Cooking This weekend, Create’s cooking pros share one-pot recipes that are heavy on flavor but light on clean-up. Sara Moulton whips up a cozy winter chicken chili recipe, the Cook’s Country team prepares the ultimate slow-cooker Chinese barbecued pork, Annabel Lang-bein cooks up a rib-sticking pea and ham soup, Pati Jinich stirs up a Tex-Mex chili and Ming Tsai flash-fries Mongolian beef for a one-pan steak dinner.
4December 25 & 26—Joy to the World Celebrate the holidays with Create’s lifestyle experts. A Chef ’s Life Vivian Howard explores new and old Southern holiday recipes. Artist Jerry Yarnell paints an idyllic snow scene on a Christmas card. Travelers Joseph Rosendo and Colleen Kelly experience Christ-
mastime in San Antonio and Chicago. Chef Wilbert Jones prepares a healthy Kwanzaa feast. Heirloom Meals’ Carole Murko delves into America’s tried-and-true holiday recipes and dining traditions. And Katie Brown decks the halls in style!
