I am honored to be the incoming President for the 2015-‐2016 year. I am excited but a li>le frightened to be star?ng this journey. As your President, I am commi>ed to con?nuing the work of Past President, Brenda Cothary, as well as furthering the mission of providing tools and resources necessary to advance the Paralegal profession.
I have been a WSPA member since 2009 and a member of the Board for the same ?me period. I have held a Chapter Director posi?on and have been Secretary for the last four years. I have been in the field since 2000 when I earned my Advanced Paralegal Cer?ficate from Edmonds Community College.
The Board is currently working towards finally gePng the new website up and running. Along with the new website, I would like to update the website more oQen to keep members apprised of what the Board is doing. And, I would like to develop some programs around honoring our members and furthering the mission of the Associa?on.
In that vein, I encourage you to contact me with any ques?ons or have sugges?ons about what you would like to see or have available to you as members, at [email protected]. Let’s have a great year.

Management ReportsNW Chapter Reportby: Amanda Gipe, NW Chapter Director
The NW Chapter had a very busy spring! In April, 19 paralegals and students from our Chapter volunteered at the 21st Annual Law Day Clinic alongside 26 local attorneys. This event served more than 100 members of the community, and provided more than $1,200.00 in free legal services! I send a very heartfelt thank you to these volunteers for their time and support, as it allowed us to make a dirrerence in the lives of many, and made this event a success!
During the month of May, WPSA members had an opportunity to attend a Continuing Legal Education Seminar hosted by LAW Advocates and the Whatcom County Bar Association on the topic of Service of Legal Process in the 21st Century. This event offered presentations by Bryan Page of Carmichael Clark, P.S., and Robin Mullins of 4th Corner Network, Inc., in which they explored all the avenues of today's Service of Process, as well as offered tips and advice for attorney's and support staff alike. This event also served as a fund raising opportunity, where all proceeds were donated to the local Volunteer Lawyers programs.
We wrapped up the Spring with a CLE for students currently enrolled in the Paralegal Program at Whatcom Community College. We hosted an informational career panel and Q & A session with members from Whatcom County's legal community. Panel members gave an overview of their educational backgrounds and work histories, detailed current job duties, and offered tips and advice for making connections in the community/finding jobs and internships. The panel members came from a wide variety of practice areas like family law, criminal law, bankruptcy and personal injuries law, and also included a local Court Clerk and a former paralegal who became an attorney through the state's Law Clerk Program (APR 6) and now owns her own practice.
CLE's in our chapter will resume this September with a meet and greet event. There are currently plans for an event in Whatcom County and another event in Skagit County, so that all chapter members will have an opportunity to participate! Keep an eye out for emails with updated information on this event! I would love to get feedback from members about potential meeting locations and future CLE topics of interest, so feel free to come by or email me any time!
I hope you all enjoy what is sure to be a beautiful Pacific Northwest summer!
See you in September!
