WRU SUPPLEMENT POLICY
The Welsh Rugby Union has a strict policy that all its players are advised only to use batch screened supplements. This applies to players at all levels within the WRU structure, including but not limited to those on national duty, regional duty, premiership rugby and National players playing at clubs outside of Wales. In addition we advise players of all ages only to use batch screened supplements, irrespective of whether they are subject to drug testing or not..
Any players with pre-existing medical conditions should consult appropriate medical staff before commencing any supplement use.
WRU SUPPLEMENT POLICY
Age Appropriate Supplementation
Players Less than 18 years of age should focus on establishing good eating habits as a main priority. However we recognize that the following are useful
Protein shakes – To meet protein requirements and for convince
Isotonic Drinks – To provide energy and delay fatigue during training sessions and to maintain hydration levels. Not for use outside of training
WRU SUPPLEMENT POLICY
Age Appropriate Supplementation
Players Over 18 years of Age
Creatine monohydrate has been shown to be a safe and effective supplement for increasing lean body mass and strength.
We do not suggest a loading protocol but a daily dose of 3-5g taken over the season. This can start in pre-season and continue throughout the season, with a break in the off-season.
Fluid Intake needs to be increased while using creatine.
