a) Sully sells cars at a car yard. He gets a retainer of $200 per week and receives 3% of the sale price of all the cars he sells.

i) If Sully’s sales totaled $50 000 this week, how much would he be paid? 2

ii) If this week was an average week for Sully, how much would he expect to earn over the course of a year?

iii) Sully paid $300 a week PAYG tax this year. He was left with a tax bill after he had filed his tax return. Assuming no deductions and that he is exempt from the Medicare levy, use the table in question 3 to determine how much tax he should be putting aside each week so that this does not happen again.

b) Bill the Baker buys a bread making oven and a collectable car the same day.

i) Bill wants to declare the depreciation on his bread maker in his tax. If the depreciation is calculated at 10% per year, what is the value of his oven after 3 years if he paid $500 000 for it.

ii) Bill paid $240 000 for his collectable car. He anticipates that it will appreciate by 7% per year. What does he think it be worth in 3 years time?

c) Gemma earns $2400 per fortnight. She intends to take 4 weeks holiday leave. She is entitled to
