The practice working hour is from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday to Friday. It is a two surgeries practice with 11 team members. In a typical day, I takecare of around 25 patients. Most of the patients are for routine checks and some are for treatments.We provide all kind of primary dental care and treatments for NHS patients which will extend from emergency care, examination, treatment planning and preventive measures to restorative, prosthetic, endodontic, surgical and pedodontic cares. The practice has some Denplan patients and private care as well. Private care will include all general dentistry treatment (as mentioned above) plus implant dentistry and esthetic treatment. According to GDC guidelines, dentists are team leaders and need to guide, train and supervise the whole dental team so as all staff can work efficiently and as a team. 2 What is your long-term employment / career objective ? I would be most interetsed to work in a teaching hospital where I can learn and improve myself while sharing my knowledge to others as well. Moreover, the research facility availibility will be a bonus. However, working in a primary care centre with a supporting team will also be a desirable position. Professionally, I am very patient-oriented and keep high standard of profesionalism and follow dental ethics religiously. Always consider patient first and decide in the best interest of the patient. Moreover, have an open-mind to learn from any colleagues and at the same time, never hesitate to share my experiences.Personally, I understand patients feeling, fear and requirements when seeing a dentist. Naturally, I give not only professional care but also personal touch as well. In short, I work with passion, interest and as a hobby.

4 What things give you the greatest satisfaction at work ?

Why ?

The following situations give me most fullfilling experiences 1) When patients relieve from intense dental pain2) When patient happy with their improve improve appearances and smiles3) When nervous patients trust you and rely on your treatment4) When children listen to your instruction and have improved oral hygiene

The main reason behind all these fulfilling experiences is because I work with passsion and as a hobby. I feel patient satisfaction and acceptance as my achievement in my career.

5If you were working as a dentist for the SouthAustralian Dental Service, how would youdefine “doing your job well ?”

How did you work out that definition ?

Whether I am doing well or not should be decided by:1) Patient satisfaction2) Support from colleagues and work seamlessly with the whole team.3) Employer satisfaction

In summary, whether I am doing well or not can be viewed from these three levels and their acceptance.

6What kind of people do you find it most difficult to work with ?

Why ?

I do not believe in some people are inherently difficult in dealing/working with them. I always check first what’s wrong with me whenever I found any apparently difficult people.

7. Describe your understanding of the principles and philosophies of Public Dentistry (as opposed to Private Dentistry)

I have been working as an NHS dentist since 2007 in UK. In UK dentistry, there are two distinct line of dentistry, NHS dentistry and private dentistry.NHS dentistry is, in a broad term, public dentistry. In summary, it is providing primary dental care which includes, but not limited to, preventive management, maintaining oral and dental health, screening oral diseases, appropriate treatment and referral as required, delivering essential dental treatments, implementing long term preventive measures and oral health education.In other words, it is providing essential dental cares and health education to the community , required to maintain their standard of oral and dental health.

Duties of a Dental Services Officer with the South Australian Dental Service
