Writing Tips and Tricks: Beginnings and Endings Exciting Beginning Start with some excitement. Ex: The car that swerved out of the way but almost hit you. The grand-slam you made as the crowd roared. Avoid: “I woke up in the morning.” Yeah, so did I. Everyone did. It is a dull beginning. Do not be tempted to use it. Full-Circle Ending Writing needs a special ending, one that wraps up the piece. One trick is to repeat a phrase from the beginning of the piece or to refer back to something mentioned in the beginning.
