Writing Mid-term Reports
What Report Card Comments SHOULD be
• PERSONALIZED• CLEAR• PRECISE• MEANINGFUL
When writing comments Teachers should:
use clear language parents will understand (rather than educational terminology taken directly from the curriculum
provide personal and meaningful feedback use your own professional judgement when identifying
aspects of learning write in a positive tone
The 4 Part Comment

1. Describe what students have learned
Student 1 has had difficulty learning the topics of basic probability and personal budgeting covered thus far in the course;
Student 2 demonstrates limited knowledge and skills of the computer and networking skills learned in this course.
Student 3 demonstrates a substantial and good understanding of the elements of drama and uses most of the creative process on his own to complete composition activities.
Student 4 has demonstrated extensive understanding of written and oral communication techniques,

...this is evident on both his quiz and summative unit test. He is often absent or late for class, which impacts his success in this course.
...She participates in class discussions about e-waste, however, she has some difficulty recalling important specifics on assessments and needs to be more descriptive on written assignments.

3. Describe next steps for improvement
In order to earn this credit,Student 1 should complete all homework assigned, attend Thursday after school extra help sessions and make a plan with me to catch up on missed work.
In the future, Student 1 should complete test review sheets and seek feedback from the teacher, peers and at home before submitting written work.
Continue to use feedback to refine technique and expression.
She is encouraged to continue to develop her ideas by adding more supportive details to her writing.

4. How parent/guardians can support?
At home, ask him to show you the dance combinations being explored and assist him with remembering his props and practicing his lines.
Student 4 is also encouraged to continue to read a variety of texts at home, including novels, magazines and biographies.
