• The 5W’s and H: The newspaper report should tell the reader:

Who What Where When Why and How

• Past Tense: You are reporting on something that has already happened.

• Third Person: You are retelling events without being involved in the story. This means using the names of the people who are part of the story or using 'he' or 'she', not 'I' or 'me'.

…Eyewitness – Reported Speech

• An eyewitness account will add interest to your report and

also give a different perspective on the incident.

• Direct speech:

Mrs Jones said “I was absolutely terrified.”

• Indirect speech:

Mrs Jones said that she was absolutely terrified.
