This is what your essay is trying to prove.
This is the “bull’s eye” you are trying to hit during your entire paper.
Each body paragraph may focus on different ideas, but they each end with a connection to the thesis.

It’s like a roadmap you show so that the reader will trust you, the writer, to take him/her to the end.
