SOME OF US AWAKE IN THE NIGHT…

With strange phantoms of enchanted

hills and gardens with waterfalls

disguising secret hiding places...

Describe a creature that might dwell in this place. Have him/her enter this setting and encounter an antagonist.

Della flitted through the island, searching for a lovely place to rest. Here wings were fragile and could no longer withstand the westerly breezes. Since her fateful encounter with the Zhor, fire dragon , three moons ago, her singed wings were brittle and cracked more and more with each minute of fluttering. To looe even a fragment of

wing could ground her for days as she waited for it to mend. This put her in great peril, as she was easy prey for the walking creatures that roamed hid ingin the greenery of the magical fountains, waiting for the maimed, the fallen, and the weak.

…Of fountains that sing in the sun, of golden cliffs overhanging murmuring seas, of plains that stretch down to sleeping cities of bronze and stone...

1. …believable, likable or fearsome, complex characters which are often imaginary, yet with strong personalities as heroes and villains as well.

2. …believable settings described with strong imagery and perceptive descriptions in which the characters may logical inhabit.

3. …well-crafted plots that are a result of a believable conflict from this setting and the characters. Realistic obstacles for the main character to deal with.

Day 2

Your second fantasy world is a planet of endless waters, of blue seas dotted by tiny “floating islands.” The people of this world live like ship’s crews passing in the night. Alternative: Find a totally make-believe world: undiscovered planet, a world where everyone lives in trees, a world of total darkness, a world of high temperatures, etc. Draw on all of your experiences-film, books, stories, tales, personal experiences--to sketch ideas for this fantasy...

1. What kind of people would this world produce? Describe them. Give them names.

2. What is the environment like? Give it a name. Describe it. Describe travel.

3. What kinds of conflicts could evolve from this world? Give examples.

4. What kinds of villains/creatures might exist?

The two horses wearily made their way up the twisted, obscure path. Their bodies, lathered with sweat, heaved with effort and gleamed in the noonday sun. Their two riders were equally fatigued. Both were fair elves of legend; each was tall and thin, but well-muscled. Golden hair glistened and gray eyes shone from each. Their pointed, elfin ears were alert at every moment, searching for a sound of danger. But the only noises were the steady clip-clop of hooves on the rising broken path.

The land around them was desolate and empty. Deep chasms unexpectedly appeared around them as the simple path led them between great cliffs of immense height. The musty smell of dank moss was in the air, and the riders’ spirits were low.

Silverleaf turned to his older brother and frowned. They had been traveling for many days and nights but neither had spoken or complained, for they were on a mission, a quest for their people. For weeks they had been searching for an object, a sparkling emerald gem of great beauty: the Earthstone.

Conflict

A being of incredible power and evil was holding it in his castle. This terrible creature was the Unholy One: the King of the Undead, which were creatures of death and chaos that had once been mortals but had committed unthinkable sins and evils during their lifetimes. So when death came, they had not the pleasure of drifting as spirits throughout the planes in total bliss and beautiful peace. No, they had, in sense, come back to life as undead to serve evil forever, to live in an eternal torment of pain and suffering equal the sins they had committed.

The Villain

Hogarth, an ill-tempered gremlin with a bent over little body and a raspy voice. He had loose, sagging, warted, brown skin, and a grudge against the faerie kingdom. He hated the faeries and had planned to destroy them until he heard of the birth of Charisma. When she became of age, she would come into powers that would be able to destroy him and all of his evilness. He decided he would kidnap her and kill her so he could follow through with his plan to destroy the faeries

A young man troubled with a life that no one understands. People too afraid to help him. He is cased out, no friends no family. Every bad thought he has could be a disaster. His name is Jack; he has the strange ability to start fires with his mind. He has no control over it, but has learned that only bad thoughts and rage is what triggers them. His family was killed in a house fire when he was very young. He doesn't know if the fire was his fault or not. But with no one to help him understand what’s wrong with him, he starts out on the road searching for the Truth.

Jack now travels from town to town, trying to find the truth about what happened to him and how his family was killed. He goes to a small town called Rozwell, where he finds an old friend of his father. They had worked together at the factory, but he had disappeared after the fire. He learns that his defect was from an accident at the lab and that when his father had tried to expose the company, they had him killed. So Jack was left alone with no answers. But now he wants revenge on this evil company that did this to him and killed his family

INITECH,is the name of factory where his father used to work. They produce a sulfur compound. They developed a new product that will eliminate the use of matches or lighters by giving the user the ability to emit a small flame from their finger tip. They took young Jack from his daycare center to test it on him. Thinking the test was a failure, they sent him back. But what they didn’t know was it had worked and that it would become active as he got older.
