As I play and learn, I enjoy exploring interesting materials for writing and different ways of recording my experiences and feelings, ideas and information. LIT 0-21b

Stage 1 The drawing programme

Drawing the human figure in a variety of contexts. This helps to develop hand – eye co-ordination.

Stage 2 Scribed StoriesThe teacher or adult helper scribes the story under the picture e.g. I am playing with my friends in the swing park. This activity helps to develop a child’s compositional skills.

Stage 3 OverwritingThe teacher scribes the story and the child

writes on top of the writing.

Stage 4 Letter formation and story compostition

The child is encouraged to add more detail to drawings. The teacher scribes the story. The child writes underneath the written story.

Stage 5 StorywritingThe child makes up and writes own stories

using wordbanks and wordbooks to help with spelling.

I like to eat pizza and bananas.

• Provide materials and space for writing and drawing.
