We will do a quick brainstormingactivity
I will stand and point to severalstudents. When I point to them theywill say one thing they are reallygood at or know a lot about. Theymust wait at a level 0 and if they yeout, they will not get the chance toshare.

SWBAT create a list of topics to writeabout for an informational book.
Students will be brainstormingtopics that they consider themselve“experts” on so that they can writean informational book about thesubject.

I will explain that they just sharedwith me something that they know alot about and we are all good at a lotof things. I will model for students
how to create a brainstorming list. Iwill explain that we have
brainstormed before and this is whatgood writers do to begin their writing
process. I will think aloud andexplain that I know a lot aboutvolleyball, softball, basketball,
shopping, and cooking. My list willbe generated on an anchor chart.
Students will be seated on thecarpet at a level 0 with hands in thelaps and participating when calledupon.

“We Do” Guided Practice: Check for Understanding:
Students will help me generate a list
of things that they are “experts” on.We will title the list “Room 103’s got
the info on…”
Students will be seated on thecarpet at a level 0 with their hands itheir laps. Students will be cold
called to provide one topic that theycan write an informational bookabout.
