Fitness CenterBuilt in 1963 and patterned similarly to the type of recreational activities with which Governor Rockefeller grew up, the Fitness Center once housed a four-lane bowling alley. It now includes a squash court, dry saunas, and state-of-the-art weight room and fitness equipment.
The Heritage FarmsteadThis area is being developed to recreate a farmstead typical of self-sufficient farms from the first half of the 20th century – from circa 1900 (when Tena and A.B. Westphal established their farmstead), to 1953 (when Winthrop Rockefeller arrived). Currently it is the site of educational demonstration gardens, the Teaching Barn classrooms, and an Arkansas Archeological Survey Research Station.
Boathouse AreaThe boathouse, pavilions and Lake Abby – named after the Governor’s mother, Abby Aldrich Rockefeller – were made available without charge for civic, church, and school functions on six days of the week; the area was reserved for the Rockefeller family and friends on Sundays. Today, Lake Abby and the Boathouse area buildings are used for many outdoor activities including paddle boats, fishing, tennis, horseshoes, Frisbee golf, and geocaching. It is also the site of the Lake View Garden and water feature.

experience. We invite you to take a self-guided tour of the Rockefeller Institute to see facilities, beautiful grounds, and historic areas. Although the buildings are no longer used for their original farm operation purposes, adaptive reuse of many of them allows you to see a resemblance of their original function. *Please stay on the paved roads and designated walking trails, and avoid the private areas.
