Control up to 7 Components

The WR7 remote control is designed tocontrol up to seven different Audio/Videocomponents and operate virtually allbrands of AUDIO, TV, DVD, VCR/DVR,CD, SAT/CABLE and AUX (Light, MusicServer, etc.) components.

Activating Component Buttons

Once you have programmed the WR7for all of your components, all you needto do is press a component button andall the buttons on the WR7 will work withthat component. For example, when youpress the TV component button, all thebuttons on your WR7 will operate yourTV. If you press the DVD component but-ton, all the buttons on the WR7 will oper-ate your DVD.

Each time you press any of the buttonson the remote, the LED light in the com-ponent button will light up to indicatewhich component you are controlling.

Learning Capability

The WR7 has the ability to “learn” functionsfrom the original remote controls of othermanufacturers, even if they are not in thePre-programmed database.

Special AdvancedFeatures

The WR7 also offers the following specialadvanced features that can offer you manytime-saving conveniences:

MacroPower™ & Other MacroButtons

MacroPower is a unique feature that enablesyou to turn all your components ON or OFF, allat the same time, simply with the press of onebutton. The WR7 has 13 Macro buttons thatare designed to store up to 20 commands ineach button. Pressing any one of the Macrobuttons will send out the series of commandsthat are stored in that button.

“My Favorites”(Favorite Channels)

This is one of the most desirable features of theWR7 remote control. Once it’s set up, you canselect one of four favorite channels with thepress of one button – without the need to typein a channel number. So, whether it’s CNN orthe Food Network, your favorite viewing spot isjust one click away.

SimpleSound™ & Other “PunchThroughs”

SimpleSound Volume Control is a dynamic fea-ture that gives you total volume control over allthe components in your system, even those thatdo not have their own built--in volume control, such as TIVO, DVD and VCR... saving you thehassle and inconvenience of constantly needingto switch between component modes on theremote. As an example, in order to increase thevolume while watching a DVD, you would typi-cally have to pick up the TV remote control toincrease the volume. With the WR7, you donot even have to press the TV component but-ton. Once you program SimpleSound in yourDVD mode, you will automatically have TV vol-ume control in DVD mode.

SimpleSound is what is called a “PunchThrough” feature and is not limited to volumecontrol. It can also be applied to ChannelControl, Transport Control, and OSD Control.

Programming WR7 using Pre-Programmed Codes

There are three ways you can program yourWR7 using the component brand codes thatare pre-programmed into the remote.

• Quick Set-Up Method • Three-Digit Code Entry Method • Auto--Search Method

The Quick Set-Up Method is a unique new fea-ture that enables the fastest and easiest set-upby using one-digit codes for up to 10 majorbrands for each component. The Three-digitCode Entry Method allows you to set-up theWR7 using 3-digit codes for component brandnames. It is also a fast and easy way to pro-gram the remote. The Auto-Search Methodscans through all the brands in the remote con-trol, one at a time. It should be used wheneither the Quick Set-Up or Three-Digit CodeEntry Methods do not work.

* * *

Quick Set-Up Method

STEP 1: Manually or using your oldremote, turn on the component you want toprogram—for example, to program your TV,turn on your TV set.

STEP 2: Point the WR7 toward the compo-nent that you want to program (in this casethe TV set) and press and hold the compo-nent button (in this case the TV button). While holding down the compo-nent button, begin to press numerickeys, one number at a time, starting from 1,continuing to 2, 3…0 until the component(in this case the TV) turns off.

Page 10

STEP 3: Release the component button tosave the code. The component LED light willblink three times to confirm that the code hasbeen stored.

Repeat the above steps for other components.

Page 11

Three-Digit Code Entry Method

STEP 1: Find the 3-digit code numbersassigned to your brand from the lists in theback of this manual. The codes are listed bycomponent category (i.e., TV, VCR, DVD,etc.), then by brand name. For instance, ifyou would like to locate a code for a Sonytelevision, first locate the TV category andthen look for the Sony brand.

STEP 2: Once you have located the 3-digit codes for each of the components thatyou wish to operate with your WR7, writethem ALL down on a piece of paper. It’simportant that you write down all the codeslisted for your brand because only one codeis going to work with your component.

STEP 3: Manually or using your oldremote, turn on the component you want toprogram—for example, to program your TVturn on your TV set.

STEP 4: On the WR7, press theComponent button that you want to program(in this case the button that says TV) and theSELECT [SEL] button at the same time. Holddown both buttons for two seconds until theTV Component LED light turns on. This sig-nals that you are in programming mode.

Page 12

IMPORTANT: You have 30 seconds toperform the next step while you are in pro-gramming mode. If you do not press a but-ton within 30 seconds, the component LEDlight will turn off. The remote will exit theprogramming mode and you will have tostart over.

STEP 5: Point the WR7 toward the compo-nent (in this example the TV) and punch inthe first 3-digit code that you wrote down forthat specific component. Use the Numberbuttons 0~9 on the remote to punch in thecode. The TV LED light will blink each time anumber is pressed.

If the 3-digit code number you just punchedin is the correct number, the component youare trying to program will turn off. If it didnot turn off, enter the next code numberfrom your list until it does turn off.

STEP 6: Once you’ve entered the codenumber and the component has turned off, press the POWER [ON] button on the WR7remote to turn the component back on.

Next test the VOLUME and CHANNEL but-tons (or PLAY and STOP buttons for VCR andDVD) to make sure they all work. For exam-ple, perhaps your Sony TV turned off withcode number 147, but the volume controlsdid not work properly. In this case, try thenext code number listed for that component.Repeat Step 5 using the next code numberuntil you find a perfect match.

Page 13

STEP 7: Once you’ve entered a correctcode, you must save it. Press the com-ponent button you just programmed (in thiscase TV) one more time to save the codenumber. The component LED light will blink threetimes to confirm that the code was success-fully stored. Now when you press the TVcomponent button, all of the buttons willwork with your TV.

Program the remaining components byrepeating steps 3 through 7.

IMPORTANT: If you have tried all the set-up codes in the list and the component stilldid not turn off after Step 5, either the Auto-Search Method (page 14) or the LearningMethod (page 16) will help you program.

Page 14

Auto-Search Method

The Auto-Search Method is a way you canscan through all of the codes in the table tofind the right code for your component.

STEP 1: Manually or using your old remote, turn on the component you want to pro-gram—for example, to program your TV,turn on your TV set.

STEP 2: On the WR7, press the Componentbutton that you want to program (in thiscase the button that says TV) and theSELECT [SEL] button at the same time. Holddown both buttons for two seconds until theTV Component button light turns on. This sig-nals that you are in programming mode.

IMPORTANT: You have 30 seconds to per-form the next step while you are in program-ming mode. If you do not press a buttonwithin 30 seconds, the component LED lightwill turn off. The remote will exit the pro-gramming mode and you will have to startover.

DOWNARROW

UPARROW

Page 15

STEP 3: Point the WR7 remote controltoward the component and press the UP []arrow (or DOWN [] arrow) button once. Each time the UP or DOWN arrow button ispressed, the code will count up (or down) onecode number and send a Power OFF signal. When the correct code is sent out, the compo-nent will turn off.

STEP 4: Once you have found the right codenumber and the component has turned off, press the POWER [ON] button on the WR7remote to turn the component back on.

Next test the VOLUME and CHANNEL buttons(or PLAY and STOP buttons for VCR and DVD)to make sure they all work. If any of the buttonsdo not work properly, you need to find a newcode. Continue pressing the UP (or DOWN)arrow button until you find a new code thatturns off the component and makes the VOL-UME or PLAY buttons respond correctly.

STEP 5: Once you have found the rightcode, you must save it. Press the compo-nent button you just programmed (in this caseTV) one more time to save the code number. The component LED light will blink three timesto confirm that the code was successfully stored. Now when you press the TV component button, all of the buttons will work with your TV.

NOTE: Use this method for those componentsyou cannot program with either the Quick Set-Up or 3-digit Code Entry Methods.

Page 17

STEP 4: Press and hold the [MUTE] buttonon the other remote until the component but-ton LED on the WR7 blinks twice. Now youcan continue learning all other buttons fromyour old remote by pressing the next buttonon the WR7 and repeating this step.

Note: The component LED will blink five timesif there was an error in the learning process. Inthis case, please repeat Steps 3 and 4.

STEP 5: Once the WR7 has learned allthe buttons in the selected component mode, press and hold the Component button andENTER [ENT] buttons at the same time tosave the learned functions. The componentLED light will blink three times to confirm theprogramming. Now test all the buttons tomake sure they learned correctly.

Repeat Steps 1-5 to program any other com-ponent modes.

If the Learning Method does notwork, here are a few suggestions:

• If you have a Plasma TV, move to anotherroom

• Avoid programming under fluorescent lightor direct sunlight

• Put new batteries in the old remote

• Gradually vary the distance between the tworemote controls

• Adjust the angles of the remotes (i.e., keepthe WR7 on a flat surface while holding theother remote in hand and angling it downtoward the WR7)

• Tap the button on your old remote instead ofpressing and holding it during the learningprocess

Page 18

Here are some additional factsregarding the Learning process: • Learned functions override any existing pre-

programmed functions on the remote control

• Learned functions are automatically erasedwhen a new function is learned on the samebutton

• Learned functions are retained even after adifferent set-up code number is programmedinto the remote control

• To return to an original pre-programmedfunction, a learned function must be erased

• Rapidly tapping the Volume Up button on theold remote will teach the WR7 to ramp the vol-ume instead of raising it in increments of one

Page 19

AUX Function: Programming a 7th Component

After you’ve finished programming the WR7 for sixprimary components and you did not use AUX, youcan take advantage of the AUX function to programa 7th component, such as a second TV, DVD, orany other audio/video component that you mayhave in your system. Simply program the [AUX] but-ton in the same manner as any other componentusing either the Quick Set-Up Method, the 3-DigitCode Entry Method, the Auto-Search Method or theLearning Method.

Finding a Component’sSet-up Code Number

If you used the Auto--Search or Learning Methodsto program a component, you may not know thecode number you programmed. Here is a way foryou to identify what that code number is, so youcan make a note in the back of this Manual forfuture reference.

STEP 1: Press the component button youwould like to verify and the SELECT [SEL]button at the same time for two seconds untilthe selected component LED light turns on.

IMPORTANT: You have 30 seconds toperform the next step while you are in pro-gramming mode. If you do not press a but-ton within 30 seconds, the component LEDlight will turn off. The remote will exit the programming modeand you will have to start over.

Frequently AskedQuestions

If the batteries run out, will Ilose my settings?

No. The WR7 stores all of your settings in non-volatile FLASH memory. You could remove thebatteries for months, replace them at your con-venience, and the WR7 would still rememberyour settings.

What is MacroPower?

MacroPower is a very useful way to make a lotof things happen with one button push. Forexample, in most home theaters, to watch televi-sion, the user must turn on the TV, then turn onthe Cable Box or the Satellite Receiver, then turnon the Surround Sound system for sound.Instead of pressing all of those buttons one at atime, MacroPower enables you to turn on all ofthese components, in the sequence you want, with one button push. For more information onwhy and how you should program MacroPowercommands, refer to page 21 in this Manual.

What if my remote control nolonger works from a distance?
