WP6 Workshop Travel Information

The workshop will be held in Westminster, London at the following address:

Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Express:

• This is the fastest link between Heathrow and London. Non-stop trains run to Paddington every

15 minutes, and the journey time is 15 minutes from Terminals 1, 2 and 3 (a few minutes more

from Terminals 4 or 5).

• Tickets can be bought on the internet, at the station, or on-board the train. The standard single

fare is £21.50 and a standard return costs £35.

• Once at Paddington, follow signs to the London Underground - the entrance is located at the

end of the platform by the shops.

• Buy a Zone 1-2 Day Travelcard, which will cost £12 (you can use cash or card at a machine or at

a ticket booth). This ticket allows unlimited travel for the day on any form of public

transportation in London.

• Follow signs to the Circle line and take the train to Westminster. The estimated journey time is

23 minutes.

• Exit the station via Exit 6.

• At the top of the stairs, turn around as if to go back down the stairs to face Parliament Square.

• Walk around to the right on to Great George Street until you come to two sets of traffic lights.

• Cross over both and continue down Great George Street.

• One Great George Street is the last building on the corner of Great George Street and Storey’s

Gate.

London Underground:

• The most cost-effective rail route to London from Heathrow is ti. Piccadilly Line trains run from

all terminals and journey time is 50 – 60 minutes. Take the Piccadilly Line to Green Park and

then change to the Jubilee Line to Westminster. Estimated Time: 42 mins

• Buy a Zone 1-6 Day Travelcard for £17 (you can use cash or card at a machine or at a ticket

booth).This ticket allows unlimited travel for the day on any form of public transportation in

London.

• Exit the station via Exit 6.

Taxi:

London taxis are available outside each terminal. The cost to central London is between £45 and £70.

The journey time is approximately one hour. Alternatively book a minicab or chauffeur in advance.

Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Express:

• Gatwick Express is the fastest rail link between the airport and central London. Non-stop trains

run to and from London Victoria every 15 minutes and take 30 minutes.

• The station is located at the South terminal.

• You can purchase tickets in advance from the website: http://www.gatwickexpress.com/.

• They are cheaper in advance, but can also be bought from the station. Singles begin at £17.75

and returns £31.05.

• In Victoria, follow the signs for the London Underground.

• Purchase a Zone 1-2 Day Travelcard for £12 (you can use cash or card at a machine or at a ticket

booth).This ticket allows unlimited travel for the day on any form of public transportation in

London.

• Exit Westminster station via Exit 6.

• At the top of the stairs turn around as if to go back down the stairs to face Parliament Square.

• Walk around to the right on to Great George Street until you come to two sets of traffic lights.

• Cross over both and continue down Great George Street.

• One Great George Street is the last building on the corner of Great George Street and Storey’s

Gate.

Taxi:

• Journeys between Gatwick and Central London can take around an hour

• Gatwick’s preferred taxi company is Airport Cars Gatwick who can be contacted;

• Advanced bookings are recommended with an average cost being around £50.

Bus:

Bus services are run by both National Express and easyBus:

easyBus

• Run from both the North and South Terminal, with services running every 15-20 mins. The bus is

non-stop and runs directly into central London, arriving at Earls Court/ West Brompton.

• The journey takes 1hr 5 mins and costs upwards of £2, depending on when booked.

• Bookings can be made at http://www.easybus.co.uk/london-gatwick. Alternatively tickets can

be bought from the driver on the day, though not at the online discounted rate.

• The bus will drop you off at Earl's Court Exhibition Centre and is opposite the London

Underground Station.

• Follow the signs to the District Line and take the train to Westminster. Estimated time 12

minutes.

National Express

• Runs from both terminals, up to every 30 mins. The Bus is non-stop and runs directly to London

Victoria Coach Station.

• Frequency: up to every 30 minutes.

• Journey time: fastest service is 65 minutes, but the average journey time is 85 minutes.

• Costs start from £8 in advance http://www.nationalexpress.com/bd/Gatwick/gatwick-

airport.aspx.

• From Victoria Coach Station exit at the main exit NOT the exit were the coach has pulled in.

Then head northeast on Buckingham Palace Rd, staying on the right hand side were the road

divides. On your right you will see the main train station. Follow signs for London Underground

Stansted Airport

Train:

• The Stansted Express runs every 15 minutes and reaches London Liverpool Street in 47 minutes.

• Single tickets start at £19.

• Trains depart from Stansted Airport rail station, situated directly below the terminal.

• Stay on the train until it arrives at its final destination of Liverpool Street.

• Follow signs for the London Underground.

• Buy a Zone 1-2 Day Travelcard for £12 (you can use cash or card at a machine or at a ticket

booth).This ticket allows unlimited travel for the day on any form of public transportation in

London

• Follow signs for the Circle Line and get off at Westminster. Estimated time for the journey is 23

minutes.

• Exit the station via Exit 6.

• At the top of the stairs turn around as if to go back down the stairs to face Parliament Square.

• Walk around to the right on to Great George Street until you come to two sets of traffic lights.

• Cross over both and continue down Great George Street.

• There are many coach and bus options but we would recommend two:

National Express to Victoria or the Easybus to Baker Street.

• ALL buses operate from the bus terminal opposite the main terminal building.

National Express

• Buses run up to every 15 mins with an average journey time of between 85-100 mins.

• Tickets can be bought on the day, but are generally cheaper in advance and can be bought by

phoning +44 (0) 8717818178 or online: www.nationalexpress.com.

• The usual bus fare is £10.50.

• From Victoria Coach Station exit at the main exit NOT the exit were the coach has pulled in.

Luton Airport

Train:

• A shuttle bus service operates to and from Luton Airport Parkway Station; this is normally a

10 minute trip from the airport terminal building. The service runs every ten minutes between

05:00 and midnight and also connects with all trains calling at Luton Airport Parkway overnight;

please check train times for details. This costs £1.60 and is included in a train ticket if bought

from Luton Airport to St Pancras International.

• We would recommend trains to St Pancras International.

• Tickets can be bought at the station or online

• The journey to London should can take between 30-50 mins depending on the time

• Buy an Anytime Day Travelcard for £33.50. This will include both your train ticket and travel on

London public transport for the day. From here follow the signs for the London Underground;

the main entrance is through the arches at the end of The Arcade. If you buy this at the airport,

it will include use of the shuttle bus to and from Luton Airport Parkway station connecting you

with the airport terminal.

• Follow signs to the Circle line and take the train to Westminster. Estimated journey time is

28mins.

• Exit the station via Exit 6.

• When you arrive at Baker Street follow signs for the London Underground.

If you are coming to London via the Eurostar your train will bring you into St Pancras

International.

London Underground:
