The Lightning Seeds have been entertaining audiences for over 20 years, and it’s easy to see why when wit-nessing their unmissable live performance. Ian Broudie con-ceived the band and penned the majority of the critically acclaimed debut album Cloud-cuckooland, featuring the hit single Pure. The band’s 1994 album, Jollification, saw the Lightning Seeds garner the at-tention they rightly deserved, spawning the hit singles Lucky You, Change, Perfect and Mar-vellous.

Having secured a reputa-tion as one of the most promi-nent bands of the 1990s, the Lightning Seeds took an ‘elon-

sAturDAy 25 FeBruAryThe Red Bullets were formed in 2007 by Pete Edwards and brother Mark as an outlet for Pete’s songs, many of them co-written with lyricist and close friend, John Bailey. Their music made an instant impact with audiences not only UK wide, but also with those who immediately took the band’s songs to their hearts during tours of Dubai and the French Alps in 2008 and 2009 respectively.

The Edwards brothers were joined during the early years of the bands ascent by Mark Wheeler on bass and Kyle Hall on guitar, who both left the band in May 2010 which marked the start of a re-birth for the band with a change in approach and,

the red Bullets

of course, personnel. The Red Bullets are

returning to The Stables after a couple of years away whilst they have been writing and recording their debut album with producers Chris Porter and Gavin Monaghan. This show will be one of the first times they will have performed the whole album live along with many of your favourite Red Bullets songs spanning the past four and a half years. They will be joined by some special guests.

Fri 17 - Thu 23 Feb Winner of the Best Actor Award last year at the Cannes Film Festival, The Artist is a heartfelt and entertaining homage to the silent classics. Set during the twilight of Hollywood’s silent era, the film tells the story of a charismatic movie star, George Valentin (Dujardin), unhappily confronting the new world of talking pictures and the rise of his latest leading lady Peppy Miller (Bejo). Mixing comedy, romance, melodrama and a wink to classics of the silent era, as well as Citizen Kane and Singing in the Rain, The Artist is an original celebration of a black-and-white silent era that lovingly recreates a 1920s Hollywood.

MAKE SURE YOU’RE BEAUTY, NOT THE BEAST...

Styles and fashions can change so fast and hair trends are just the same. So, here we are at the dawn of a new year, so why not a new you? There really is no better time to change to that alluring colour you have been looking at or that sexy new cut and style you’ve been yearning after. At March Hair we have the professionals to help you make these decisions, give the best advice and give you the after care to help make the very best from your new 2012 look.

Happy 2012!

If you do change your look don’t forget changing your home hair care regime will be just as important, you can’t change you entire look and then style it with the same products and in the same way, again we are here to help, just come in and speak with your stylist or make a FREE consultation.

2012 style tips:Ok hold on here we go...

There’s lots going in the hair fashion world from wavy locks to sleek off the face looks, to sets

and groomed, slightly pinned up hair. Grooming is key to some-thing more classic. Try a French twist for an easy way to pin up or maybe a half up Bridgette Bardot style, a more relaxed and smoother look than the late Amy Winehouse wore. You can also rag tie your hair for beautiful loose curls or waves. Bored of your bob? Try gripping or pin-ning to one side to create a mod bob look, very stylish. In fact it’s time to layer it up, add pieces of hair by clipping or weaving them in, wear them down by having them cut in to fit or just use them for up-do’s, with added hair there are no limits. Quiffs for boys and girls will continue to be a main stay this coming year, geeky, sexy and cool, you just have to have one every now and again.

On the product front as a ‘Paul Mitchell Signature salon’ we are proud and very excited to announce the arrival of MITCH. A

brand new male grooming range designed for the style conscious man, and we know there are plenty of you out there. Come in and see it for yourselves, ask the team for advice, you’ll not want to miss out on this 7 product range.

So, if you changing your look, a man in need of great male grooming products and much much more we have it covered. Have a fabulous start to the year.

Here’s to a great hair dayJoe March xx

I know it’s a bit late but happy new year!

What a busy start to this year already!

There is one thing I would really like to inform people about is the reason and importance of Patch Testing.

It is extremely important that patch tests are carried prior to treatments that involve tinting, including Hd Brows.

The reason we ask you to patch test is to ensure that you have no allergy to the tint so that we don’t put you as the client at risk of reacting to the tint, which would result in the eye area being red, inflamed and swollen.

Sometimes your eye lid/ brows can swell so much you can’t open your eyes!

As a salon owner this would be last thing I would ever want a client to experience that is why

each time clients should be patch tested for all tinting treatments.

I always get clients say to me ‘I’ve had my hair dyed for years’ , ‘ I’ve always had my lashes tinted but just not here’ or ‘oh I don’t need patch testing I’m sure I will be fine’. Honestly I don’t care as all I want is for each client to be safe and not put them at any risk at all by opting out of a patch test for the only reason is that they think they don’t need one!

Even down to the different brands can make a difference to how you react to tint, but also stress, change in lifestyle and medication can all result in people’s lack of tolerance towards tint.

It’s a risk that I am not prepared to let clients take for their skin or eyes.

So if your going to a new salon or wanting tinting, you

should always be either sent a test or pop into the salon to let a therapist carry a patch test out for you.

This isn’t to put you off tinting, as eyelash and brow tint can not only make your life a fraction easier but highlights your eyes so much more and really shape your face.

I promise we are not being difficult!

WOW LOOKS AT WHAT’S GOING ON...

FRIDAY 24 FebRuARYTurn heads, warm hearts and wear red on the 24th Febru-ary for the British Heart Foun-dation’s (BHF) National Wear Red Day.

Heart disease kills three times more women than breast cancer but by turning red, you can help the BHF to reduce this number. As part of National Heart Month the na-

tion’s heart charity is calling on the UK to brush down their red dresses, shake out their red locks or even unlock their most precious Louboutins to help raise valuable money for its fight against heart dis-ease.

A famous fashion designer once said, “When in doubt, wear red” and that’s exactly what the BHF is encouraging

MON 13 - FRI 17 FebOnce upon a time finding somewhere to go for a day out in wintertime was difficult: places of interest, historic properties etc were closed through the winter until Easter. That’s changed- thank goodness. People want days out all year and with our surprising weather we can have warm sunshine at any time of the year as well! But whatever the weather there’s always a warm welcome at Sulgrave Manor, especially this February Half Term.

Kids can get a head for history with our unique children’s tour to discover how the eleven Washington family lived and played at the Manor in

the time of those tricky Tudors. Then follow up with traditional games, brass rubbing and trails for all ages including searching for ‘animal tracks’ and some rather large ‘ladybirds’. Don’t forget to download the ‘Are we there yet?’ I Spy sheet from the website to stop the young ones getting bored on the journey. Claim a free badge on arrival. There are tours and trails for grown ups and the snowdrops are out too.

you to do. It can be a touch of red for those who want to be more alluring or it could be a full blown outfit dedicated to the ‘emotionally-intense’ col-our. With a suggested dona-tion of just £1, women, men and children around the coun-try will make a big difference in beating the UK’s biggest killer on National Wear Red Day.

IDEAS TO MAKE YOUR HOME A WOW HOME.

Planning permission

If like a lot of home owners you are thinking of extending your property or having some build-ing improvements done, you had better Check first if you need planning permission.

Planning applications usu-ally take your council at least eight weeks to approve, fre-quently they take longer, so now is the best time to start making plans as it could take a few months to get every-thing you need in place before

WW BrOWn & SOnSQuakers Yard, 10a Adam & Eve Street, Market Harborough, LE16 7LT.T: 01858 465353E: [email protected] W: www.wwbrownandsons.com

the building work can start, which is best done during the summer months.

It sound obvious, but be-fore you apply for planning permission, you should make sure you need it. A number of smaller building develop-ments, e.g. many extensions or conservatories, don’t need planning permission. These are called ‘permitted develop-ments’ and you won’t need planning permission for these

as long as certain conditions are met. In some cases per-mitted development rights may have been withdrawn. If you live in a designated area, eg. a conservation area, or if your house is a listed building, different rules apply. Before doing anything you should check with your local planning authority what the rules for your building project are.

Many people prefer to have an expert handle the plan-ning application, you can ask your agent, architect, solicitor or builder to do it for you. If you’re not the sole owner of your property or if the prop-erty is a leasehold, you need to inform the owner/part owner and any leaseholders who have at least seven years left on their lease.

A good architect or building firm like W. W. Brown have lots of experience in these matters and can take a lot of the stress out of the whole process, however they cannot guarantee your plans will be approved.

After you’ve submitted your application, the local planning authority will check

it and make it public to give other people the opportunity to comment or object on it if they want to. Then the coun-cil will decide whether your application is approved or re-fused. You should only start your building work after you get confirmation from the council saying that you have planning permission. Start-ing work without permission could be disastrous as they have the power to make you take it all down again at your own cost.

If planning permission is refused, you should talk to the planning authority to find out why. You can then amend your application and send it in again. If you think the authori-ty’s decision is unreasonable, as a last resort, you may con-sider appealing to the Secre-tary of State.

WOW TAKES A LOOK AT THE LATEST DEALS ON WHEELS

Move over, Range Rover!

For any business, particularly for those based in the country-side, Porsche’s latest Cayenne Diesel is a good alternative to the predictable Range Rover.

POSITIVE• Comfortable• Fast• Practical• Good for Towing

NEGATIVE• Pricey Option List

The German car, which was revamped recently, has per-manent all-wheel drive with self-locking centre differential. The luxury SUV’s power is

transmitted to all four wheels with optimum precision and control.

It is a refined and impres-sively quiet off-roader which is

also capable of great accelera-tion - it is a Porsche after all! The latest three-litre V6 Diesel engine offered in the Cayenne now delivers 242 bhp - 5 bhp more punch than previously

via an eight-speed Tiptronic S automatic transmis-

sion, which in-cludes steer-

ing wheel

mounted gearshift controls. Fuel economy has risen to 39.2 mpg and CO2 emissions have dropped to 189 g/km. In addition, the power increase has had a positive effect on performance: the acceleration time from 0-62 mph is just 7.6 seconds, and the top speed is 138mph.

Unsurprisingly, the Cayenne makes a great towing vehicle and the preparation for an op-tional tow bar system comes

as standard. For the big-

gest loads, you can choose from two towing options: an electrically retractable tow bar unit, which was fitted to my test vehicle (at a cost of £825), or a manually detachable tow bar. With the electric version, the ball neck can be retracted beneath the rear apron – all at the push of a button. Both op-tions have a maximum braked trailer load of 3,500 kg (with a maximum nose weight of 140 kg) and come with a 13-pole socket. This makes the car ideal for anyone with, for ex-ample, an equine business. It is absolutely ideal for lugging a fully laden horse trailer and,

with its 4x4 capacity, it is perfect for getting in and

out of muddy fields. Of course, the Por-

sche doesn’t just come with tow bar options; it has a lot of others – but they come at a

cost. For instance, the Cay-enne I drove had: metallic paint (£697.00), Porsche communi-cation management including navigation mode (£2,137.00), black full leather interior pack-age (£2,177.00), universal audio interface (£227.00), air sus-pension with self-levelling ride height adjustment (£2,380.00),

Bluetooth phone capability (£534.00),19-inch Cayenne De-sign II alloy wheels, with all sea-son tyres optimised for rolling resistance (£1,456.00), electric tilt/slide sunroof (£1,004.00), bi-xenon headlights (£1,165.00), brushed aluminium interior package (£526.00), roof rails including roof mouldings in alu-minium finish (£590.00) and a heated windscreen (£324.00). Phew! Along with the electric tow bar fitting that pushed my Cayenne Diesel’s price tag to a whopping £60,380.00!

Option-packs aside, Por-sche says that the basic Cay-enne Diesel is confirmation that a 100-metre sprinter can also run a marathon. To be honest I would agree, because that statement pretty much encap-sulates the oil-burning model’s attraction – it is a tremendous-ly sporty car to drive, but it is also very practical and delivers decent fuel economy for every-day use..
