Sitting in the station staring at this blank sheet of paper I honestly have no clue what to write about. Joe Phelan and Mike Arena are of no help to me as Mike is sleeping on the couch and Joe is preparing

for his up- coming show. So much for a loyal and helpful group of directors. I cannot complain too much though considering the sweet sounds of Celine Dion are

filling the Board Room. It is her powerful and graceful voice that is fueling me to write this column that is too many days overdue. As I listen to Celine’s hands down greatest hit “It’s all coming back to me now” I feel as if I can do absolutely anything. Even write this column that I have yet to find a subject for.

I could talk about the Super Bowl considering that this is the Super Bowl issue. Since I was formerly the Sports Director it only seems natural that I talk about the amazing run that the 49ers had to almost come back with a win. However, we all know what happened and no one needs reminding that it was probably the greatest Super Bowl in years. Sorry ex- staffers but that is where I end my football talk.

I would love to write about all of the amazing dips, side dishes and appetizers that I made in honor of the big game that showed off my amazing feminine culinary skills. Unfortunately, readers will be disappointed to know that my cooking skills stop at boiling water. The only thing that rivals the terribleness of my cooking were the commercials that were played during the game. Over the past three years the quality of commercials has diminished quite noticeably. However, as always the commercials did have some educational value to them. This is what I learned from the Super Bowl commercials:

1) Don’t ever try to eat your date2) You can lead a horse to water but if you sell it to Budweiser it will always finds its

way home3) It doesn’t matter how white you are anyone sounds cool talking in a Jamaican accent4) GoDaddy.com commercials will never be good5) Never feed a goat Doritos, they get scary6) No matter how many years go by the Etrade baby will never grow upThe commercials were a bit of a disappointment but there is always next year. The real

star of the show, which is no surprise to anyone was Beyonce. Although she barely sang and basically only danced to her Greatest Hits, the performance was still amazing. The show stopper was of course the Destiny’s Child reunion that swept everyone back to the ‘good ole days’ that were the 90’s. This trio of girl power fusion brought the house down and left everyone begging for more.

If I was choosing to write about the Super Bowl those are the things that I would talk about, however the Super Bowl was so long ago. We are a radio station magazine, so it only seems proper that I bring up the Grammys. Just like the Super Bowl, the Grammys taught me a few things as well:

1) Fun has magical instruments that are not affected by rain2) Taylor Swift couldn’t get back together with her boyfriend because she was opening

up the Grammys3) I have developed a deep woman crush on Kelly Clarkson4) Justin Timberlake is revisiting sexy and every woman in America is happy about it5) John Mayer uses the same tailor as Willy Wonka6) It doesn’t matter if this is your second album, you can still get best new artist, way

to go FUN Needless to say, in the past two weeks I have learned a lot. However, this

shouldn’t be all about me. Many of you must be wondering what is new up here at The Buzz. Right now is a very exciting time because we are investing in a new computer! A new computer will ensure that our system is up and running 24/7 without any fear of shutting down or breaking. Our Board of Directors has been working very hard and making a lot of new changes as quickly as possible.

Make sure to tune into the station everyday to check out our new Buzzworthys and stop into the Hickey to hear us play on Fridays.

For the first time in nearly 600 years, a pope has announced he will resign. Pope Benedict XVI announced to the world that he will resign because of quote advanced age, according to a cnn.com report. Resignation becomes official on February 28. Cardinals will then meet to pick a new pope for the church. Archbishops from the Catholic Bishops Conference expressed their shock and surprise of the soon to be former pope’s resignation. Archbishop Timothy Dolan told CNN.com that he was sad to see the pope resign but it shows that the pope really cares for the church’s well-being. The pope claims that over the past few months his health has deteriorated significantly. The pope’s surprising announcement has brought up many questions regarding the selection of a new pope.

Although Benedict won’t participate directly in the election of a new pope, his presence will be felt. The pope appointed

67 of the 117 cardinals that will supposedly choose the new pope by Easter. A CNN Senior Vatican Analyst John Allen predicted to cnn.com that this essentially means that whoever will take over as pope will continue in the Benedict’s conservative tradition. The Church still upholds their firm opinion on controversial issues such as abortion, birth control divorce.

Benedict has left a legacy of conservative social doctrine. Many people viewed him as a “caretaker pope,” after the long role of Pope John Paul II, who served until he could barely walk.

He faced some criticism amongst his Catholic followers. CNN iReporter Egberto Willies told CNN that he viewed the church under Benedict had become outdated when the church decided to oppose the distribution of condoms to curb AIDS in Africa.

Joesph Ratzinger, the name the pope was born with, will most likely head to the

pope’s summer residence and will not be involved in managing the church after his resignation.

Fantasy football players, do you miss your league’s competition? Movie fans, do you not understand fantasy football?

The Academy Awards provide an opportunity to combine fantasy sports and the year’s best films. A fantasy Oscars game allows players to draft a team of nominated movies that scores points for awards won during the broadcast.

In many ways, fantasy Oscars is better than fantasy football. The ceremony takes place in one, usually long, night. Players don’t have to monitor injuries or adjust lineups on a daily basis for sixteen straight weeks. They won’t spend money on ultimately worthless draft guides.

Boyfriends and girlfriends, husbands and wives won’t argue over how much time the game takes up. Fantasy Oscars brings couples, friends and film lovers together through the common interest in movies.

Having the first pick in an Oscars fantasy draft won’t guarantee success. Players must draft films with a strategy to earn the most points possible. They can’t ignore nominees in categories Best Foreign Language Film, Best Live Action Short Film and Best Documentary Short Subject.

The care a player builds their team with will determine their chances of success on Oscar night.

League setups this year could be:Two teams, 26 films eachFour teams, 13 films each13 teams, four films each26 teams, two films eachThe players and league commissioner

should agree upon and assign point values to each award category. The team with the most points at the end of the broadcast wins.

The league’s scoring system places an emphasis on the major awards honoring acting, directing, screen writing and overall film. Documentary, short film and animated film categories received double-digit point values to increase their significance to the game. Technical categories filled out the remaining point values.

The commissioner records the players’ birthdays and starting with the oldest or youngest player, determines draft position with a random number generator. For example, if the youngest player receives the number three, they pick third in the first round. A 13-round would draft proceed

in a “snake” order, meaning the order reverses each round meaning the player with the fourth pick has the final pick in the first round and the first pick in the second round.

If you miss fantasy football, try fantasy Oscars. It’s a game you can enjoy with anyone and adds interest to a long, and sometimes boring award show honoring movies you probably haven’t seen or heard of.

It will give you something interesting to talk about the next morning instead of how funny Seth MacFarlene was or wasn’t, who won, who lost and who the best and worst dressed celebrities were.

Local Natives has yet to produce a song that isn’t impressive. With their new album Hummingbird (released Jan. 29), Local Natives moves up on my list of favorite bands. They should on yours, too.

The first track, “You and I,” features much of lead singer Kelcey Ayer’s beautiful falsetto. It doesn’t sound forced or misplaced; the higher notes pair perfectly with Ryan Hahn’s mandolin.

Their lyrics are short and simple. Ayer sings, “When did your love, when did your love go cold? / The closer I get, the farther I have to go.” The repetition of the lyrics doesn’t get boring. If anything, the repeating lines get better each time Ayer sings them.

The next track, “Heavy Feet,” is the album’s most popular song. Listen for Matt Frazier’s percussion work behind Ayer’s sweet voice. His rhythm is flawless and perfectly complements the clapping of his band mates.

Listen for equally-as-energetic song “Breakers” several tracks down from

“Heavy Feet.” To accompany upbeat instrumentals, the chorus (“Breathing out hoping to breathe in / I know nothing’s wrong but I’m not convinced”) features soft “Ooh ooh’s” in the background.

Ayer’s finest singing can be heard on track six. With only eight lines in the entire song, his falsetto croons, “I’m letting you know I’m ready to feel you” for the chorus.

If you’re looking for another upbeat song, “Wooly Mammoth” should satisfy.

But, if you’re itching for the mellow side of Local Natives, “Ceilings” is this album’s equivalent of “Who Knows Who Cares” from their first album. Ayer’s falsetto comes in again with the chorus: “Silver dreams bring me to you.”

The best part about Local Natives is the simplicity of their lyrics. Most of their songs are very short and sweet, expressing what they want through small, albeit meaningful, lines.

They carry their signature sound in “Black Balloons;” a song reminiscent of Gorilla Manor’s “Airplanes.”

The message in a very calming “Colombia” is one everyone can relate to. Ayer sings, “Every night I ask myself / am I loving enough?”

Hummingbird is worth every penny. If you give Local Natives a listen and they suit your fancy, buy both of their albums. This up-and-coming alternative band deserves to reach fame. (5/5)

Released on November 18th, 2012, Björk surprises fans with her newest album, Bastards. Her 2011 album Biophelia was filled with complex sounds developed by scientist and instrument-makers to give listeners a musical experience “far beyond passive.” Bastards reflected a more personal side to Björk. The album is a collaboration of covers from all of Björk’s favorite musicians. These artists include 16bit, Hudson Mohawke and Matthew Herbert.

The remixes and covers featured on the album are very unalike from the original versions of the songs. Rather than just covering the songs, Björk wanted to completely recreate them with a modern and microelectronic twist.

“Crystalline,” originally performed by Omar Souleyman, opens the album. The single radiates a more futuristic vibe than the original version. Though the track still carries its bohemian ambiance, much of the background rhythms and melodies are amplified. “Crystalline” makes a

second appearance as the last track on the album. The closing version of “Crystalline” is a remix of Matthew Herbert’s 2011 interpretation of the song. “Crystalline” however, is not the only song that appears multiple times on Bastards. The songs “Sacrifice,” “Thunderbolt” and “Mutual Core” are each covered twice on the album.

The album's three most dynamic songs, "Crystalline,” "Virus" and "Mutual Core", receive the most attention. Björk bases her songs off of nebulous skyscapes, like in the 16bit-assisted “Hollow” or to rugged highlands of “Mutual Core”, featuring These New Puritans. The tribal deconstruction of Biophilia that is apparent in Bastards is bold, but refreshing.

Björk displays her romantic side in the second track, “Virus.” She uses soft tones in lyrics such as, “Like a virus needs a body / Someday I’ll find you.” Unlike the twelve remaining tracks on the album, “Virus” is, essentially, a love song. Critics claim, “If any lesson can be learned from Björk’s Bastard living system, it’s that the

complicated tenets of nature, love, and music are the same features that draw us, complicatedly, closer.”

Listening to Bastards is an interesting musical experience for fans as they are able to further understand the types of music that drive Björk to create her own. Nonetheless, none of the songs on the album were written or created by Björk herself. Though the album is entertaining, it lacks serious originality. Bastards receives 3 out of 5 stars.

There’s one album I’ve been itching to get my hands on, and when I received the news that not even the promoters had it the day before it’s release, I knew it’d be something that wasn’t just big news in my own head.

Pedestrian Verse, Frightened Rabbit’s fourth studio album, has more twists and turn in it then their prior releases.

Always depicting their scenery with romanticism, Frightened Rabbit begins with the track “Acts of Man,” that pulls you directly into the action of what Pedestrian Verse is all about in wading through the trials and tribulations of the working class. Each melodic bar of the track parallels the lyrics in such a sound way that only Frightened Rabbit can pull off with the Scottish twang.

“Backyard Skulls,” and “Holy,” kick up the watts a few notches while still remaining sweet, and poetic.

“State Hospital” synonymous to the name of their EP they released last November, and the title track, hits harder than any of the other songs with its inherent clarity as

they describe the subject matter. “A slipped disc in the spine of community/ a bloody curse word in a pedestrian verse.”

What follows is “Nitrous Gas,” an equally astounding ballad with layering harmonies that seem to block out any sort of instrumental use. The song could have been done a-capella which may have even done something more for its power overall.

And though Pedestrian Verse is holds much of the same essences of State Hospital in the way that it brings a more indie take to a very Scottish band, it also stays true to every vocal stylizing and lyric that was produced before it.

Pedestrian Verse is a beautiful album, and that phrase underrates the work with every clichéd use prior to this very point, but I have tended to look at it with a stigma. See, my own father called them a Scottish Mumford and Sons. Believe you me, my old man is no expert in music, but he could even catch on to it. Or maybe the hooks that caught him. Regardless, what I’ve drawn from this is that Frightened

Rabbit is more bound for success in both adult-contemporaries as well as atop college rankings. This is kind of the new way of the indie genre in the way it pulls elements from old to make a new album. Everyone’s doing it these days, so I guess you can’t blame them. 4/5 bunnies.

Matt Pond has officially made his solo debut. After creating eight albums under Matt Pond PA, Matt Pond has broken away, dropped the PA and created his solo album The Lives Inside the Lines of Your Hand. Pond, an indie rock artist, I feel created a good album but that is all it is.

I really didn’t find anything special about this album. The tracks sounded repetitive in the style. Most of the songs had this echoing effect that unfortunately created this distant vocal sound. When I listen to the album all I could picture was this bad futuristic music video because of that distant vocal effect. Only a few tracks really grabbed me and kept my attention for the songs entirety.

“When the Moon Brings the Silver” was really the first song that really caught my attention. This three minute ten second song starts with a great beat and slowly Matt Pond’s voice is added. Then 22 seconds in, Matt Pond pauses and for three seconds; the heavy beat is all that can be heard. This pause grabs the

listener’s attention and then builds up, creating an incredible movement within the song. The one other song that leaves a lasting memory was the song “Bring back the Orchestra.” For the first time in the album I felt that the accompaniment didn’t overshadow Pond’s vocals. “Bring back the Orchestra” had fantastic movement that flowed so fluidly and really won me over. It’s extremely disappointing to listen to a total of ten tracks and only fall in love with two songs.

The Lives Inside the Lines of Your Hand was overall a fast pace album that was overflowing in movement which was Pond’s goal. Can I listen to the album and be content? The answer is yes I am content while listening to this album, but I want to feel more when listening the Pond’s work, and that left me in a tough spot. Matt Pond’s solo career is starting off on a bumpy path with the album The Lives Inside the Lines of Your Hand.

Tegan & Sara reach “Heartthrob” status By Morgan Statt After almost three years, the Canadian

twin duo, Tegan & Sara have finally released their seventh studio album Heartthrob. The sisters Tegan and Sara Quin have been involved in the music industry for thirteen years and have witnessed an expansion of their fan base and general popularity. Advertisements for their new album have been seen on television and on Youtube; it is safe to say that Tegan & Sara are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

Although Tegan & Sara’s earlier albums are clearly associated with the indie and alternative genres of music, the twins take a different route with Heartthrob. Catchy rhythms, synthesizers, and driving downbeats have propelled the duo into the pop genre, and their transition has proven to be a successful one. Over a decade spent in the business has allowed the sisters to finally come into their own both vocally and musically. Although most artists fail to succeed in multiple genres, Tegan & Sara are the exception to the increasingly common rule.

Heartthrob opens up with the hit single “Closer.” Vastly different from their previous releases, the song has a unique dance feel to it that showcases the twins’ growth in vocal talent. Synthesized notes coupled with an upbeat tempo have enabled “Closer” to be featured in multiple television commercials, and its music video has received over two million views on YouTube. The rise in popularity of the song proves that it is one listeners will not get sick of anytime soon.

As the album progresses, listeners are subjected to a uniquely pop feel. Although not quite as evident as mainstream pop, it is without question that Tegan & Sara have entered the genre under their own terms. The second track, “Goodbye, Goodbye” contains similar synthesized notes and intense downbeats as “Closer”, but still

manages to have a distinct tone that allows the album to not enter into a stream of repetitive songs. We see a similar musical style with the tracks “How Come You Don’t Want Me” and “Drove Me Wild” that compose an album worth listening during any time of day.

In a recent interview promoting Heartthrob, Sara Quinn stated, “It’s always been a goal for us to write really confessional, intense music that relates to my life but can also relate to your life.” Heartthrob has allowed Tegan & Sara to achieve their goal. The album contains tracks that tell of love, loss, and heartbreak; every emotion portrayed in the songs is easily relatable for almost every listener. Tegan and Sara Quin have been writing songs since the age of 15 and have showed maturation in their lyric composition. Every song conveys sheer emotion that is not normally found in the mainstream pop songs we hear today. It is refreshing to see a duo that puts meaning and thought into their music. Listeners can appreciate the change in depth that Tegan & Sara bring to the pop genre as a whole, and they make us wish that all pop music could be so easily relatable.

Heartthrob is not an album that can be casually cast aside and forgotten after a few weeks of listening. “They’re not surface songs. They’re songs that you can really grow into,” Sara Quin states in the same interview. The twins have not only enabled their career to last 13 years, but they have shown growth and progression with every album they’ve released. Their musical talents, as evidenced by the success of each album, have been showcased on stage with artists that include Cyndi Lauper, The Killers, Jack Johnson, and Paramore. Along with concert appearances, Tegan & Sara have performed on the late night shows of Letterman, Conan, and Leno.

Also, we can’t forget their songs being featured on television shows such as The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, and Grey’s Anatomy. If you didn’t know who Tegan & Sara were earlier in the decade, you certainly know who they are now, or have at least heard one of their songs.

Now at 32 years old, Tegan and Sara Quin have proven that they have what it takes to make it in the music business. Heartthrob is a testament to their hard work and dedication that they have shown over the years. We can only hope that they will continue to release albums in the near future, for this duo reminds us what music is all about. A sense of commitment combined with heartfelt song lyrics and cleverly constructed melodies push Tegan & Sara into the realm of unforgettable artists. As they prepare to go on tour with Fun. this summer, check your local venues and hope that they are coming to a city near you. It would be a travesty to miss out on a genuinely talented duo.

On The Afterman: Descension, Coheed and Cambria’s lead singer, Claudio Sanchez wails, “So goodbye/it’s my time to be me,” and throughout the album Coheed is the best version of itself. The unforgettable guitar shredding is back. Sanchez captures an aggression in his vocals that was somewhat lost on the last few albums. The hooks on the record are some of the best that the band has ever written. The Afterman: Descension may be the best record the band has made yet, which is saying something special.

The album displays the versatility that makes Coheed so great. Songs feel ranges from really heavy and guitar-driven progressive rock to poppy radio rock.

The opening of the album initially lulls the listener to sleep, before exploding into a huge chorus that’s gaurenteed to be screamed back at the band during live shows. From that point on, the band doesn’t lay off the gas pedal.

The next track, “Key Entity Extraction V: Sentry the Defiant” was pre-released in an

acoustic version before the first Afterman record was released, but the album version puts the acoustic cut to shame. The song features a vicious guitar lick that channels Coheed’s earlier, guitar-heavy work, and grueling, throat-shedding vocals. The song climaxes in a huge, stadium ready, chorus that rivals any of the band’s previous work.

The next few song show the band’s versatility as they dabble in driving rock on “The Hard Sell,” a song about the music industry phenomena of “selling out.” The song features a hardcore/metal breakdown strum pattern on guitar during the chorus, which works surprisingly well and produces a unique, pulse racing effect.

The band then dabbles in pop rock with “Number City.” The song features a punchy horn line that comes out of nowhere and a chorus that’s catchier than this year’s flu virus.

Some of the most special moments come later in the album when the band slows down and plays soft, intimate ballads. Although the band isn’t really renowned

for their balladry, some of the best songs in their catalogue are beautiful ballads. “Iron Fist,” “Dark Side of Me,” and “2’s My Favorite One” are all gorgeous, full band ballads. The final track, “2’s My Favorite One,” may be the album’s best song. The song starts off with a subdued feel accented by warm guitar tones that channel the sound of their very first album. The track then bursts into a 12/8 time signature chorus that is a subliminal ending to a terrific album.

By Kirk Windus Coheed & Cambria impress in excess with newest LP

Jim James is known for being the lead singer of the Kentucky-based My Morning Jacket, but on this solo venture, James redefines himself with an even more eclectic sound. His first solo album, Regions of Light and Sound of God, oozes musicality derived from the tranquility of solitude. This is most evident in the ambiance of the album’s first single, “Know ‘Til Now.” It mixes a singing style reminiscent of Frank Sinatra’s crooning with modernized warm synths. “State of the Art” explores the use of technology and how it ties into personal feelings. Lyrics like “technology/Suppose to make for better living and a better human being/We got our wires all crossed/The tubes are all tied and I'm straining to remember/just what means to be alive” make this a very explorative cut. James seems to have entered a meditative state on the record where he can find a definite subject to address without the distraction of a whole band behind him. “Dear One” and “A New Life” exude extreme sentiment

behind James’ sweet voice. “God’s Love to Deliver,” an understated ode to Dr. Martin Luther King closes out the album with a steady, yet sweeping melody. With a chugging drumbeat and a wide string section, “Actress” is the standout cut from the latter end of the album. James uses every song to convey one theme, or point. James pledges his love to his mysterious maiden through an extraordinary couplet of lyrics: “Oh actress the fact is/I believe in the myth and the legend/A new reality and I believe in everything/Swayed by a sense of devotion”

The album runs on as an exploration of James’ psyche, with topics ranging from segregation to love to mysticism. Jim James’ first solo album exposes the personal growth for someone who has done more than enough to be recognized as a key figure in the modern music scene. 5/5 morning jackets.

Unlike most trends that seem to come and go (like dressy sweat pants and studded denim jackets) leather lives forever! Leather isn’t just for rock stars and bikers anymore. Consider your best leather jacket your new “little black dress.” Women’s leather is making a big impression in 2013.

Leather skirts are making waves in designer boutiques and on the high street. From pencil-skirts to maxi-length ones, the range is great! In today’s work world, one might choose a leather pencil skirt, paired with a button-down shirt, and a touch of jewelry. Going out after work? Simply throw on a lacy top and let your hair down! Ladylike silhouettes saw an edgy transformation on the spring runways, so take your look to a new level, and spice up your weekend with some binding leather tops! If you want to play it safe- accessorize with leather belts and body bridles, and you’ll be sure to turn

Gals:Edgy: Rocker tee’s and leather pencil

black articles of clothing in order to create a “contemporary-chic” outfit look anything but basic.

Modern Boho: Loose tees and fitted motor-cross leather leggings; flat boots/ slouchy bag. Sexy never looked so effortless!

This style particularly suits slim men who might otherwise be swamped by the square proportions of a traditional style. Viva la leather!By Jaclyn Brotherson

How to rock your style with leather:

heads!Gentlemen, your lady wants to see you in

leather as well! There are plenty of ways to rock a masculine leather look. Leather has quickly evolved from a timeless fashion fallback to a key men's clothing trend of the year. Why wouldn’t a guy want to follow in the footsteps of the classic James Dean Rebel Without a Cause? I refuse to believe that I’m the only gal who can’t resist the sexiness of lusty red leather jackets like the ones sported by Brad Pitt in Fight Club (1999).

If you love leather but don't like the idea of wearing leather clothes all day, rest assured that there are plenty of alternatives. Try adding small details to your wardrobe - for instance, gloves in the winter or a belt over a cotton dress. Look for leather details on clothing, like panels on a top, or stitch a pocket on to the back of a pair of jeans for a trendy DIY touch.

Fashion

Arranging different patterns together lets you stand out as the fashion adventurer in a world of Plain Jane’s.

Growing up, matching pieces together for my outfits was an essential before I left the house. If you asked me to wear a floral skirt with a striped top, I would have given you a, what-planet-are-you-from look. Before I was introduced to the world of fashion magazines, I didn’t know mixing patterns was already becoming a trend. More importantly, I wouldn’t have guessed this style to be as popular as it is today.

One of my favorite mixed-matched patterns is the combination of floral and polka dots. Although polka dots are simple, pairing them against floral patterns allows them to stand out. Mixing patterns attracts the eye, so it’s important to wear the trend successfully.

With this trend, as well as every trend, there are a few ideas to take into consideration before you start mixing everything in your closet together. First, try to stay within the same color family for both patterns. For example, if you want to mix polka dots and stripes, have them both be within navy hues. This will visually appeal to the eye without being overwhelming. If you want to stray from similar hues, try to wear colors that will compliment each other. For example, purple and yellow are two colors that compliment each other.

A second idea to think about with patterns is searching for patterns that complement each other. Finding the right combination is helpful when trying this

trend. For example, floral and stripes mesh well with each other because the bold pattern (floral) compliments the subtle pattern (stripes). The same idea applies to leopard prints complimenting stripes or polka dots.

Finally, think wisely about accessories. Mixing patterns together is the staple of your outfit. Don’t use bold jewelry or bright belts to take away from the important pieces you’re trying to attract others with. However, wearing simple jewelry or neutral accessories can help achieve your goal in appealing the eye to your outfit even more.

This trend is for anyone who has a fashion-inspired mind and wants to try something new. It’s an interesting approach to try a different style. Standing out in your mixed-pattern outfit will give you a confidence boost and renovate your appearance; just remember to have fun with it!

When braving the harsh weather that winter can bring here at St. Bonaventure, Bonnies have been seen wearing trapper hats and sweaters in abundance. A majority of today’s fashion is rooted in clothes that were popular in previous decades (‘90s and ‘60s being the most popular). Both of these trends are throw backs to these times.

Trapper hats cover the entire head, with flaps of fur (or faux fur) over the ears and across the head. The trapper hats provide an aesthetically pleasing and comfortable

combination of patterns and fur. Trapper hats are a flexible accessory, common amongst the woodsmen of Anywhere, USA and the citizens of Alphabet City. Darker plaited patterns are the most popular of all the varieties trapper hats are found in.

It seems pretty obvious the physical benefits to wearing a thick sweater during the winter, but the real charm of sweaters lay in their coziness and cornucopia of patterns they come in. Oversized sweaters are a common occurrence in today’s

fashion because of the feeling it inherently brings on just by wearing it. While there is no limitation to the patterns and appearance of sweaters, some of the more appealing sweaters have warm tones of brown and beige. It gives off a comfortable aesthetic while providing the material needed to stay warm in the frozen tundra that we call home.

WSBU Stubs 34 years strong and still pumping out

loud, abrasive, crazy punk music; how many bands do you know like that? Bad Religion, the LA punk rock veterans, returns with their intense 16th studio album, True North. The blistering pace and contemptuous mockery of authority makes True North an instant hit in the

punk rock community. With tracks such as “Robin Hood in Reverse” and “Land of Endless Greed,” one will definitely hear the band’s “dislike” for the current government’s decisions in the lyrics, as all good anarchists should. My favorite tracks on the album include “Vanity” and “My Head is full of Ghosts;” both

with fast-paced, brain shaking guitar riffs and lyrical bombs thrown at you. Staying true to their punk roots, Bad Religion also brings excellent production value to the table. This is one band with staying power and will definitely be around for more hardcore face-melting music.

Just short 20 years of performing and creating rock-music, Mark Oliver Everett yet again delivers an even gruffer persona than fans are used to. Wonderful, Glorious is Everett’s tenth album with the American indie-rock band Eels. The album has 13 tracks, including eight tracks performed live. Wonderful, Glorious was released on February 5th, 2013.

The album opens with the techno-

sounding single, “Bombs Away.” The song sets the tone for the rest of the album by stating “I can no longer keep my mouth shut” and “You better listen, ‘cause you might learn something.” Essentially, the theme of Wonderful, Glorious is speaking up.

“Peach Blossom,” the fourth track on the album, is the most popular of all 13 tracks. The song is four minutes of changing

rhythms and tone. Starting off with an aggressive electric guitar solo, the song shifts to a mellow symphony. Everett speaks throughout most of the track.

As for the rest of Wonderful, Glorious, the album sticks to the authentic sound carried through each of Eels’ albums. The album should be listened to one song at a time as many of the tracks blend together and share similar themes.

Coming off her critically acclaimed debut EP Home, Jenny O, once again, did not disappoint her rapidly growing fan base with her latest album, Automechanic. Keeping up her reputation of being a strong, powerful female figure,

Automechanic is a metaphor for taking the wheel, self-sufficiency and the courage of artistic honesty. Her song writing has also been refined, as her playful attitude toward life is very prominent throughout the album. Automechanic

is a very diverse album; the song “Lazy Jane” is a 70’s inspired, Janis Joplin-esc track. Automechanic is a solid album with interesting and meaningful tracks from start to finish.

Atlantic Records released The Joy Formidable sophomore album, Wolf’s Law, on January 22. Overall, the album is much enjoyable. The trio made up by Ritzy Bryant, Rhydian Dafydd and Matt Thomas create a similar sound to Silversun Pickups, Of Monsters and Men, and Giver. Featured in a January 2011 Rolling Stones’ “Band to Watch” article, The Joy Formidable found success with

their first album The Big Roar. The Joy Formidable built a passionate fan base in large part because of how much they toured from late 2010 to the end of 2012. Much of their first album was loud, but The Joy Formidable switches things up in more than one song in their second album. “Hurdle” and “The Turnaround” both use the acoustic guitars to provide a great melody. Aside from those two

tracks, Wolf’s Law is filled with many high-volume, yet remarkable tracks. Their most popular track on the album might be “Cholla,” which was released in late 2012. The album is filled with promise and craftiness. The Joy Formidable is definitely a band that should be kept a close eye on.

Torro Y Moi sticks true to the chillwave genre that he is known for. Like Daft Punk after taking Nyquil, Anything In Return, has a smooth and relaxing electronic beat.

I would not suggest listening to this album if you plan on doing anything active. However, if you’re just sitting

around and relaxing with a group of friends, you just need some background music while working or, if you would like to be gently lulled to sleep, this is the album for you.

One look at the album cover for Anything In Return is all it takes for the listener to know that the album will be

anything but ordinary. Its cover looking like a painting that belongs in a museum, Anything In Return certainly demands attention. This is Torro Y Moi’s third studio album; you can find the other two, as well as some EPs on his Spotify page.

Ra Ra Riot is an indie rock band that was formed not too far from here in Syracuse, New York. In the beginning of their career, they played shows on the Syracuse Campus in 2006. They created their first demo and soon became popular for their high energy during concerts.

Ra Ra Riot is a new type of band that many of us have not experienced. The band consists of vocalist Wes Miles, guitarist, Milo Bonacci, bassist Mathieu Santos, drummer Kenny Bernard, and violinist Rebecca Zeller. Their new album, Beta Love, was released on January 22,

2013. One of my favorite songs on the album is “When I Dream.” This song has a beat similar to hip-hop, but then switches to the indie rock ambiance. The other songs on the album did not really appeal to me, mainly because it was hard to relate to them.

Trent Reznor’s name holds more esteem then a lot of artists now-a-days. He’s earned such respects with projects like Nine Inch Nails, Exotic Birds, and teaming up with Atticus Ross to produce scores to both The Social Network and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

Since 2010, Reznor added the project How to Destroy Angels_ again pairing up with Ross, and the addition of his wife Mariqueen Maandig, Maandig fronts most of the vocals for the group where you

Hatebreed has always been that band to pull people out of hard times with their inspirational lyrics. They get rid of the unnecessary anger with heavy riffs and earth shattering drums. Jamey Jasta is being the Jamey we all know in this new record. People may say their albums are repetitive, and I can't lie, I have to play a few songs over to differentiate between them. But still, they are pretty kick-ass. I have always said Hatebreed is the most

therapeutic band in the world. It’s sad no one gives them a chance because of their heavy metal vibe. While listening to the new album, Divinity of Purpose, I found myself calm and anything upsetting me seemed to diasappear. There is something special about their music; it shuts out the outside world and just let's you be. There are a few tracks that stand out, such as the first single off the record "Put it to the Torch" and "Boundless.”

My favorite song off the record, hands down, is "Own Your World.” This song has everything in a traditional Hatebreed song, but the lyrics make it so much more significant. I can't wait to see these guys at the Rockstar Energy Mayhem Fest this summer,(hopefully the rumors that they are playing are true). Seeing them live is like nothing I've ever seen before. I give this record 4.2 out of 5 horns up.

can hear influences from both Ross and Reznor in the essence of the music.

Part of the project leading up to the release of their first studio album, Welcome Oblivion, has been a line of music videos. The last two “The Loop Closes” and “How Long,” display the true uniqueness of everything Reznor is a part of. “The Loop Closes” was pulled entirely from VHS tapes. The clips are weaved together in an eerie sequence, almost drawing listeners away from the music.

“How Long,” is on the opposite end of the conceptual spectrum, with high quality production and storyboarding. It displays an animalistic setting that amplifies not only the pertinent amount of skill, but also the overall quality of the music.

The inner fifteen-year-old in every college student leaped for joy as Fall Out Boy announced that they would be returning from their four-year hiatus. FOB announced that they would be releasing their fifth studio album -- entitled Save Rock and Roll, which will be released on May 7 – and they will be heading out on a reunion tour this summer. With “Dance, Dance” and “Sugar We’re Going Down” playing in their heads, every FOB fan raced to their nearest internet source in a wave of nostalgia to see if their beloved band would be coming to a venue near them this summer. The Save Rock and Roll Tour will kick off on May 14 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and will end on June 30 in

Nashville, Tennessee. Most events on the tour sold out within less than a week of the announcement. After the Save Rock and Roll Tour, Fall Out Boy will go overseas and rock Japan and the UK, playing two shows at each stop.

Fall Out Boy has already released their newest single, "My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light Em Up),” which will also be on Save Rock and Roll. The track is very different from the FOB of old, as popular rapper 2 Chainz appears in the music video and song imbues a sort of hip-hop-esc feel to it. Bassist Pete Wentz said on his official website that Save Rock and Roll "doesn't sound like the other FOB albums, but it sounds exactly like Fall Out Boy in 2013.”

The days of nostalgic hits like “Dance, Dance” may be behind us, but the new days of a fresh, real, rejuvenated FOB are upon us. On the band’s official website, a message from band members Patrick Stump, Pete Wentz, Joe Trohman, and Andy Hurley reads, “When we were kids the only thing that got us through most days was music. It’s why we started fall out boy in the first place. This isn't a reunion because we never broke up. We needed to plug back in and make some music that matters to us. The future of fall out boy starts now. Save rock and roll...” The “new” Fall Out Boy is going to give fans, both new and old, something to be excited about.

The Buzzworthy Reviews the Latest Feature Films

We all know Walter Hill’s talent is directing crappy action movies: The Driver, 48 Hrs., Last Man Standing, and Red Heat- just to name a few. He does not disappoint in his new movie, Bullet to the Head. That is exciting for me since I can not get enough of crappy 80's movies, and who stars in this? No better than great 80's star himself, Sylvester Stallone. The plot is pretty basic, Jimmy Bobo (Stallone) is a hired hit-man where all of his hits start to turn sour when his partner Louis Blanchard gets killed by another hit-man. Detective Taylor Kwon who is played by Suang Kang (Fast and Furious: Toyko Drift) tries to find the murderer and is soon murdered by the murderer himself.

Ironically, the murderer played by Jason Momoa completely steals the show. This guy is just one huge massive killing machine. I will not be surprised if this guy is in the next Expendables (which for

you who do not know what that movie is, it is basically the all-star game for action movies). If you come to see this movie for the plot, you are going to hate it because lets be real, besides Rocky and maybe one Rambo, has their ever been a real Stallone movie with a great plot? No! But that is why we love Stallone, because he is a kick-ass action star, and this movie has lots of action, which is pretty entertaining.Stallone also has a little bit of humor still up sleeve, which he and Kang do a great job with. Of course we finally have the finale--Bobo vs. Keegan and, wow does this scene deliver! Bullet to the Head is a solid movie to go see if you are really bored on the weekend. I would not go see this movie again just because it

is a typical action movie. However, it will be fun to watch on cable with the family when you have nothing to do on a boring Tuesday night. I give this movie 2.5 stars out of 5.

Warm Bodies is the latest trend of romance, which focuses around animated corpses. Instead of vampires, however, zombies have taken over the spotlight.

The story focuses around R (Nicholas Hoult), an unusual zombie with a personality and a sense of being. On a hunt for food (human flesh of course), he runs into a group of survivors and falls in love at first sight with Julie (Teresa Palmer). However, he doesn't have long to stare since the attack begins and both sides fight for survival. In the attack, R kills and eats Julie's boyfriend Perry (Dave Franco) before forcing Julie to come along with them when they leave.

He insists she needs to stay for a few days. But after a couple of days, Julie tries to escape only to be corned by zombies who could smell her. R saves her, thus beginning the start of a romance.

Warm Bodies, I'll admit right now, is funny. It kept me laughing throughout the film and is the saving grace of the film.

While the writing itself wasn't bad, the movie itself completely ignores everything our common knowledge of zombies has taught us. In this regard, it is like Twilight.

Like Twilight, Warm Bodies addresses the current background of zombies being animated corpses with one simple drive: eat. However, they destroy that with R, a self aware zombie who has not only a personality, but can feel remorse, love, and can even critically think. He is closer to a human then he is to a zombie, even from the start of the movie.

R kidnaps Julie and brings her to his airplane home by passing her off as a zombie. He does this by smearing blood over her face to resemble one of the dead. It is weird that it works, considering zombies can apparently smell live humans. I guess blood negates this effect, so glad that is explained in the movie.

However, what really gets me is how the romance begins to bud. It's obvious in the movie that Julie begins to like R after he

saves her from a situation that wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for him. Not only that, but she continues to like and stand up for him even after she learns he is the reason her boyfriend is dead. There is a term for this honey. It's called Stockholm Syndrome, and it's not healthy. This should be checked out, not actively encouraged. (I'm looking at you, Nora.)

Not only that, but there seems to be a trend here started by Twilight that if your dead lover (who somehow isn't rotting despite being a corpse) is incredibly hot, that makes everything OK. It doesn't. Not only is this shallow, but I feel like I should remind people that necrophilia is still illegal.

Overall, this movie is enjoyable for the sheer fact it's hilarious and does have decent writing. However, the gaping plot holes and generally questionable parts of the movie will reappear the moment you sit back and think about the message it is sending makes it meh.

Funny jokes don’t make up for gaping plot holes in Warm Bodies

The Buzzworthy | wsbufm.net 13March, 4, 2013

At first glance, the concept of Movie 43 seems rather appealing. It is an independent film that is set up much like David Wain’s The Ten with 14 different sketches, all somehow brought together by an overarching story. And the cast features many of the biggest names in film such as Hugh Jackman, Kate Winslet, Anna Faris, Emma Stone, Gerard Butler, Sean William Scott, and Halle Berry. And that list of names just scratches the surface. Go to IMDB.com and check it out because it really is an impressive cast of celebrity all-stars.

With a cast this large and nearly ten years of production, you’d think Movie 43 would become one of the best comedies of recent years. In reality, it may be the most disappointing movie of all-time.

The plot (if you want to call it that) consists of a screenwriter (played by Dennis Quaid) trying to a pitch a film with a series of outrageous stories. The sketches are supposed to be the ideas of the screenwriter’s movie. These ideas include a women going on a date with a man who has testicles hanging from his

neck, a product called the iBabe which is just a naked woman that plays music, and a group of guys freaking out when a girl has her first period. Like I said, there are about ten other sketches I could get into, but, honestly, they aren’t worth explaining. The whole idea seems forced and it just felt like I watched Funny or Die sketches on YouTube for an hour and a half. The only difference is that I had to pay seven dollars to see Movie 43.

I think I laughed a total of three times throughout the entire movie. Nearly every joke falls short and consists of wildly immature humor. It’s like they wrote the film for 14 year-old boys who can’t see it anyway because it’s rated R.

My recommendation is to stay away from Movie 43. It’s full of pointless poop-jokes mixed in with A-listers who are too embarrassed of their own product to show up to the premier (save Sean William Scott). You’ll feel dumber walking out of the theater. Just save your money and go browse the internet for two hours. At least the internet has funny videos.

Movie 43: lots of actors, zero laughsBy Zach Warren

Some movies are best viewed when you know next to nothing about the movie, you just go into the theater, sit down, and watch. Side Effects is one of those movies. If you want to enjoy Side Effects in its fullest, stop reading this now and just go watch it and know that you will not be disappointed at all.

Side Effects is a slow paced thriller directed by Steven Soderbergh, his last film before he retires. The movie centers on a husband recently out of jail, and his estranged wife who suffers from severe depression. The wife, Emily, played by an incredible Rooney Mara, attempts suicide, and is handed over to psychiatrist Jonathan Banks (Jude Law). From there, the story focuses on the drugs that Dr. Banks gives to Emily to battle her problems, and the side effects that one pill unexpectedly gives her.

To say more than that about the plot would be spoiling the brilliance that Side Effects is. The plot twists and turns and you can never tell who the characters

really are, and it’s these character interactions that give the movie so much depth, like the people on the screen could actually be living among us today. This is all thanks to some truly great acting from Rooney Mara and Jude Law, Mara’s being strangely entrancing as Emily and Law’s Dr. Banks is a smart, three dimensional character that really captures the viewer’s attention from the beginning. Channing Tatum and Catherine Zeta-Jones are both good as well, especially Zeta-Jones as Dr. Victoria Siebert.

Yet none of what makes Side Effects so great would even exist if it weren’t for Soderberghs tight direction and stylistic cinematography. The visuals are dull and plain for most of the movie, giving it a strict and serious feeling that captures the dark tone the movie brings. The plot is well told and while the movie can seem a bit slow at times, the payoff is always worth it. The curve balls that the plot throws at you are subtle and quick, leaving your jaw on the floor as the movie takes

turns you would have never expected. Not a scene of the film feels wasted, with the dialogue and actions of the characters constantly giving the viewer more to chew on, more to think about.

Side Effects is a smart, yet sometimes slow, movie with dense characters and great direction. The acting is superb, with Mara and Law stealing most scenes they’re in, and the story is one that I’m going to be thinking about for the next month. Anyone that wants to see a great movie that allows you to think more than your average movie, go see Side Effects. It’s quite the film, and I guarantee anyone who sees it will leave the theater in awe.
