Welcome

Flowers The sanctuary flowers are given today to the glory of God from

the wedding of Sarah Clark and Matthew Henderson.

The King’s Brass Tim Zimmerman, director

To Our Guests,We especially welcome you today! More information about our church is available on ourwebsite at firstpresaugusta.org. You can also visit our welcome desk in the Welcome Center, located directly behind the sanctuary.

Spiritual CareIf you would like to speak to someone about what it means to know Jesus Christ or you have any spiritual need or question, please use one of the prayer cards in the pew rack to contact one of our pastors. Our church elders are also available to speak with you. An elder and his wife will be standing next to the pastor following the service to talk or pray with you.

Children’s Check-inWe are committed to the highest level of protection possible for the children placed in ourcare on Sundays and at all church events. For this reason, we require parents of newbornsthrough fifth grade children to check in their children before they go to the nursery, SundaySchool, Catechism, Children’s Church or any other children’s activity. Kiosks are available inthe Narthex and in the Children’s Lobby. The process is quick and easy, and volunteers areavailable to assist you.

Children’s WorshipWe offer a specially designed program for children in pre-K through fourth grade during themorning services. Leaders will escort children from the sanctuary to their classrooms duringthe hymn of preparation. Parents are welcome to accompany them to observe where to pickthem up after the service. Children in pre-K through second grade remain in their classroomsuntil they are picked up by a parent.

Nursery Nurseries are provided for infants and toddlers during the worship services and SundaySchool. We provide a Mother/Infant Room (room 160) located in the Ebenezer Buildingbehind the sanctuary, and the Geneva Room is designated as a cry room for parents withfussy children. Both rooms are equipped with live video feed of the worship services. Ushersare available to direct you.

Additional Seating Please see ushers for additional overflow seating.

As stewards of God’s resources, we try not to print an excess of bulletins. We invite you to bring this bulletin with you when you return for the evening service.

The Meditation—The Lord Is My Shepherd .................................. Thomas Matthews

Theme: The Lord Is My Shepherd

The Prelude—Trumpet Tune ............................................................. Frederick Swann

†The Call to Worship .............................................................. from Psalm 122 and 123I rejoiced with those who said to me, “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” We lift up our eyes to you, to you whose throne is in heaven. As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master and the eyes of a maid look to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the Lord our God, till he shows us his mercy.

The Lord be with you.And with your spirit.Let us worship God!

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow meAll the days of my life,And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever!

The New Testament Lesson ............................................................................ John 10:7-16page 1666 in the pew Bible

Q. What is your only comfort in life and in death?

A. That I am not my own, but belong—body and soul, in life and in death—to my faithful Savior Jesus Christ. He has fully paid for all my sins with his precious blood, and has set me free from the tyranny of the devil. He also watches over me in such a way that not a hair can fall from my head without the will of my Father in heaven; in fact, all things must work together for my salvation. Because I belong to him, Christ, by his Holy Spirit, assures me of eternal life and makes me wholeheartedly willing and ready from now on to live for him.

†The Pastoral Prayer and The Lord’s PrayerOur Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

The Assurance of Pardoning Grace .................................................. Romans 8:29-34For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

Heavenly Father, against you, you only, have we sinned and done what is evil in your sight. But we are assured of your forgiveness and fear no condemnation because we are united to Christ Jesus, our Savior. We put all our confidence in Christ’s death alone; we place our trust in no other thing. Lord, we place the death of our Lord Jesus Christ between us and your judgment. We place the death of the Lord Jesus Christ between us and our sins. Lord, we put the death of the Lord Jesus Christ between you and all our sins, and we offer his merits instead of our own. Amen. Jazz Prelude—O Praise the Name

†Call to Worship and Invocation ............................................................ Rev. Mike Hearon

Responsive Reading .................................................................................. Isaiah 6:1-8

I saw the Lord, high and exalted, seated on a throne; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him were seraphim, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”

At the sound of their voices the doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke.

“Woe to me!” I cried. “I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the Lord Almighty.”

Then one of the seraphim flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, “See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

†Song—Song of Moses

16

You hear me when I call, you are my morning song;Though darkness fills the night, it cannot hide the light.Whom shall I fear?

You crush the enemy underneath my feet; You are my sword and shield, though troubles linger still.Whom shall I fear?

I know who goes before me, I know who stands behind; The God of angel armies is always by my side. The one who reigns forever, he is a friend of mine; The God of angel armies is always by my side.

My strength is in your name, for you alone can save,You will deliver me, yours is the victory.Whom shall I fear?

And nothing formed against me shall stand; You hold the whole world in your hands.I’m holding on to your promises,You are faithful, you are faithful!
