Worship Service September 3, 2017
10:00 AM
“To all those who enter here, be thoughtful, be silent, be reverent. Before the service, speak to
God. During the service, let God speak to you. After the service, speak to others.
Prelude
Nathaniel Gumbs, Organist
Call to Worship
Leader: God, you have been gracious to us.
People: You have given us the breath of life, and purpose for living. May
all of our living and labor give you honor and praise.
Leader: In this hour of worship, we honor God for the gift of labor. Whether we
teach children, care for the elderly, or fight for the disinherited, all of our
service is in worship to God.
All: With our hands lifted in praise, and hands extended in service,
may God be glorified in all we do. Amen.

Thank you to everyone who supported the Thank you to everyone who supported the $3.0 in
24MO! Campaign and to those who attended the reception. This two year campaign officially ended on October 31, 2016. To date, the campaign allowed us to pay for the cost of nearly two of the five
floors. Your generosity has been overwhelming.
As you can see, we still have a way to go. For those who have not completed their pledge, we want you to continue your payments even though the campaign has ended from an accounting point of
view. All of your future payments will be noted to your pledge. We ask you to continue to support AbyWest. New initiatives will roll out soon as we continue to forge ahead to reach our goal of
$8MM to complete the entire five floor community center. We continue to strive to attain 100% participation because we want others to know our
membership is committed to this effort. Your support is greatly appreciated!
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
THE ABYWEST COMMUNITY CENTER IS COMING ALIVE!
As we continue fundraising to meet our $12 million goal to complete AbyWest,
we would like to share preliminary renderings of the Community Center’s
Reception Area and Fellowship Hall.
We envision a space where members can gather and fellowship before and
after worship services, and it would also function as a Hall for special occasions
and events.
We urge you to continue supporting this effort, and remain diligent and prayerful
as we strive to reach our goal.
MINISTRY
The Abyssinian Food Pantry Ministry extends its
deep appreciation to ALL who’ve made donations to
our church’s Food Distribution effort. There remains a
need for non-perishables such as: canned
vegetables, canned fruits, and canned soup.
Please leave donations of these items at the
lobby reception desk any weekday during office
hours: (10 AM – 6 PM), and/or on Sundays
following worship services. We thank God
for your Spirit of Generosity!
“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me
something to drink” – MATTHEW 25:35
The Sister-to-Sister Book Ministry has chosen for its summer read, "Born A
Crime: Stories from a South African Childhood," by Trevor Noah. Ministry’s
next gathering takes place on Saturday, September 9th in Central Park. (110th Street & Malcolm X Blvd).
BIBLE QUEST
This exercise is designed to stimulate a thirst for biblical knowledge
Your awareness of biblical facts is important for your spiritual growth. Take the
challenge of the Bible Quest. Answer as many questions as possible before
checking the Abyssinian website http://abyssinian.org/ministry/christian-
education/abyssinian-institute-for-christian-education/ for the correct Bible
references to the questions. And, remember to be intentional about taking time
to center yourself, as you read the entire chapter where the answers are found.
1) At what age did Adam die?
2) How old was Sarah when she gave birth to Isaac?
3) Name the twin boys, and grandson of Abraham (Their mother’s name
was Rebecca).
4) When the Angel Gabriel told Zechariah that his wife, Elizabeth, would
have a child in her old age, Zechariah doubted. What happened to him
as a result?
5) Who was the widow that met the baby Jesus at the temple, and how old
was she?
The Abyssinian Youth Ministry invites all to the
