TODAY IN CHURCH SCHOOLChildren at Trinity meet most Sundays for the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program (CGS). Since each Level of the program covers a range of ages, often several lessons are offered each Sunday, with most children taking part in only one. Today Level I will work with the model of Jerusalem, and continue work with the materials connecting Jesus’ image of the Good Shepherd with the celebration of Eucharist. Level II will do further work with the materials for the City of Jerusalem, and will work with the Good Shepherd materials to reflect on the Hired Hand. Level III begin work on their Pysanky eggs.

Trinity Middle East Peace MinistryWalking and Praying with Churches in the Middle East – Lenten StudyThe present conflicts and political instabilities in Egypt, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Israel and the Palestine have had a profound impact upon Christian communities. Many Church leaders in the region believe that without a Christian presence, the future of the Middle East looks bleak indeed. Consider this resource for your Lenten Study: http://www.ctbi.org.uk/688.You can download the complete study or pick up copies at the resource table A big thank you to Jill Kennedy for sharing this opportunity.Art and Louise Fisher – [email protected] - or call 684-9389.

MUSIC NEWSContinuing throughout Lent, the organ voluntaries (prelude and postlude) will all be compositions by Johann Sebastian Bach. Perhaps it is this great composer’s Lenten works that hold the greatest understanding of Christian theology and truth? Chorale-based works reflecting the liturgical lessons of each week will be offered, in addition to free works including a lesser-known Toccata in A Minor using Trinity’s fine Yamaha piano. During Passiontide, the Bach “cycle” will culminate with the only two, six-voice fugues that Bach ever wrote: Ricercar a 6 (from Musikalisches Opfer) and Aus tiefer Not schrei’ ich zu dir.

Holy Baptism is a traditional part of our Easter Eve Vigil. If you would like to be a candidate for baptism, or to present an infant or child for baptism on April 4, at 7:00 p.m., please contact Carren Sheldon at [email protected]. Adult candidates and sponsors will participate in a baptism preparation meeting on Saturday morning, April 4, from 9a.m.-12noon.

TRINITY MEN’S RETREAT 2015May 22-24 at Westmont College CampusEMBRACING MYSTERYLed by Rabbi Rami Shapiro, author of Rabbi Rami’s Guide to God.We will structure the retreat around the Daily Office and meditation times and start after check-in on Friday afternoon with a short intro to Westmont and then dinner, followed by Rami’s introduction to the nature of Mystery, as portrayed in Job and Ecclesiastes, on Friday evening. The rest of the weekend will be spent accessing the Mystery by “entering the texts with our bodies.” From Job: “In my flesh I see God.” Rami wants to help us discover “where the wildness is for us right now.” We on the planning committee want this to be not so much an intellectual discussion about God, but rather, an experience of God. This is why we have invited Rami to be with us.We plan to welcome 30 men to the retreat, and reservations are now open for Trinity men. The cost, including five meals and two nights’ lodging in a private room with shared bath, is about $200. Please email [email protected] to reserve a space, and send a check for $100, made out to Trinity, to lock in your reservation. After April 12, if there are spaces left, we will open it to the larger Santa Barbara community, where we already know there is interest because of Rami.We hope you can join us! --Mark B, for the planning committee: Michael Arnold, John Draper, Bob Richard, and Dennis Wylie
