Dear Friends, Tomorrow is Labor Day. How odd to say those words with almost a week of September gone! Regardless, once Labor Day happens, then the work of the year begins in earnest. Many schools though are already back in session. St. Anne School will begin this Wednesday and the opening school year Mass will be on Friday. Some of our organizations started to meet this past week, with the Rosary Society, Movie Night, the Athletic Council, and St. Anne Stages, all getting a “jump” on the year. “Coffee And” and Blood Pressure testing will begin today after the morning Masses. Our bimonthly Pre- Baptism class for parents who wish to have their child baptized will take place this Tuesday, September 8 th . Our Faith Formation program will start next weekend, September 13, right after “Backpack Sunday” at the 9:30 Family Mass. That day will also be the beginning of the Launch Pad and the Pray-Pen for our families and younger folks. The rest of the Faith Formation Program will also begin that week. St. Anne Seniors barely took a breather during the summer but their first meeting of the year will be on September 14 th . Our choirs will also begin practicing and singing for the 5:15 Mass on Saturdays, for the 9am Family Mass on Sundays, and for the 11:30 Mass on Sundays. Our RCIA program for anyone who would like to become Catholic, or would like to complete their sacramental journey in the faith will begin at the end of the month. To register for that program, please call the rectory. Our weekly Bible Study and “Back to Our Roots” gospel reflection meetings will also begin in September and the Faith Center Board will be meeting to plan our Adult Faith Formation Program. The rest of our groups will begin as the September roll- out continues. Holy Name Society, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Catholic War Veterans, Men’s and Women’s Cornerstone, a new reflection group for men, and our women’s discussion group, DAWN, will start meeting shortly. Please see the bulletin and the Web-page for details. SAAB will also be meeting to plan its parish-wide events. Our school PTG will have its “Back to School Night” on September 22 nd . A number of our youth programs will also be starting: Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts; our Cheerleaders, who practiced hard during the summer, will start-up again after a brief layoff; and the basketball program will begin near the end of September or the beginning of October. The Men’s Basketball Game still continues each Monday night at 8pm in the gym. This year, we’ll be kicking off an exciting new youth initiative for Junior High and Senior High young people. We’re still formalizing what these programs will look like, so please watch the bulletin and Web-page for when they will actually begin. This description can give you an idea of the kinds of activities that go on at our parish as the year unfolds. There are other programs that take place throughout the year, like the Food Pantry and St. Cajetan Ministry for job-seekers and the different sacramental and leadership ministries. All of these groups, organizations, and ministries involve literally thousands of people and help to create a feeling of belonging to the community of St. Anne. We can get a sense of this community each time we gather for Mass on Sundays. There we can be renewed in what a Christian community is all about it’s our relationship with Christ that creates and deepens our connection with one another. On a yearly basis, however, that sense of community is reinforced by the St. Anne Street Faire, which will be from September 18-20 th . Your participation, as one of nearly 700 volunteers or just to enjoy a good time, is crucial for us all. Come and belong! Love, Fr. Joe

SPREAD THE WORD!!!

MEDITATION Ella in Heaven Wislawa Szymborska

She prayed to God with all her heart to make her a happy white girl, And if it’s too late for such changes, then at least, Lord God, see what I weigh, subtract at least half of me. But the good God answered No. He just put his hand on her heart, checked her throat, stroked her head. But when everything is over – He added – You’ll give me joy by coming to see me, My black comfort, my sell-sung stump.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS

23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Did not God choose those who are poor in

the world to be rich in faith and heirs of the

kingdom that he promised to those who love

him?” – James 2:5

What is more important – being rich in faith

or rich in possessions? Society teaches us

that possessions are most important. God

teaches a different lesson. When we are rich

in faith we know that matieral things really

do not matter and we are more willing to

share what we have.

The earth is essentially a shared inheritance whose fruits are meant to benefit everyone. For Christians, it becomes a question of fidelity to the Creator, since God created the world for everyone. Hence, every ecological approach needs to incorporate a social perspective which takes into account the fundamental rights of the poor and the underprivileged. The principle of the subordination of private property to the universal destination of goods, and thus the right of everyone to their use, is a golden rule of social conduct and the very principle of the whole ethical and social order….The Church teaches…that there is always a social mortgage on all private property.

Pope Francis from his encyclical Laudato Si:

On Care for our Common Home

Page 4: Worship… - Clover Sitesstorage.cloversites.com/stannechurch/documents/bulletin...2015/05/06  · Rev. Joseph Doyle (Living) - Students & Teachers of SAS Beverly Kinmond Saturday,

Word… St. Anne’s is a family of faith formed by the Word of God, especially as this is expressed in the person of Christ, in the

Scriptures, and in the Tradition of the Church. As we hear this word and take it more and more deeply into our lives, we

become ever more truly the People of God.
