Welcome to the twenty-second year of the Wisconsin Off Road Series (WORS). We look forward to continuing to bring you another great year of racing fun. Our mission remains strong, as we continue to create the ultimate environment for as many mountain bikers and spectators as

possible to experience the joys of participation in safe, fun and friendly competition. We are anxious to reunite with those whom have already joined our community and to meet those who may be joining us for the first time.

Always looking to improve, WORS race directors, their staff and volunteers are working on the 2013 edition of their events. This year’s series will again start off with the Iola Bump and Jump, (Stay tuned, there are rumors of course changes.), the Crystal Lake Classic (Northwoods adventure), and the Red Eye Rendezvous, (A new title sponsor for our race at Nine Mile Forest in Wausau.). Now in its third year, the Battle of CamRock gets even better, (What better way to spend Father’s Day?), and the Red Flint Firecracker continues the fun. July features only one event, but with a full weekend of racing, you can make it count as two. Be sure join us at Nordic Mountain as the nation’s top pros tune up for Nationals at the Subaru Cup.

The second half of WORS 2013, begins with the Sunburst Showdown followed by the long-running Alterra Coffee Bean Classic and the marathon format Reforestation Ramble with its faster/longer course. September is highlighted by Treadfest and a brand new event at a brand new venue - the Cascade XC for Kids! Last but certainly not least WORS, again, concludes with the urban excitement of the Wigwam Mountain Bike Challenge.

WORS is extremely grateful to have wonderful sponsors, lead by Subaru and Trek, as well as all of the amazing individuals, teams, and clubs that have contributed to the success and longevity of WORS. We commend our racers for their commitment to the series and for their dedication, efforts, and accomplishments. And of course, we thank all of the families and friends who support WORS participants and the fans who cheer our racers on!

WORS’ passion for the expansion of opportunities for junior racers reaches a new level as we throw our resources and support into the recently launched WIN Cycling. WIN has many initiatives in the works to achieve its primary goals of the establishment of school clubs/team throughout the state and a stand-alone four race series of interscholastic competition beginning in the fall of 2014. If you have an interest in the success of this effort please contact us to see how you can help and become a champion of mountain biking in our schools by signing up at http://wors.org/win-cycling/

See you on the start line,

WORS (Series) REGISTRATION

Racers wishing to receive an overall in WORS or participate in WORS team competition must register with WORS. Series registration may be either completed online at www.wors.org by April 15, 2013 or by downloading a form from the website or using the one from the 2013WORS

Racer Handbook and mailing it with the appropriate registration fee to WORS, postmarked no later than April 6, 2013. These deadlines are to allow for number assignment and notification in time for racers to register for the first WORS event of the year using their number. Series registrations after April 15th should take place at the WORS tent onsite at a WORS event. A racer must have a series number for a result to count toward a series overall, WORS team competition, or to pre-register for all but the first race they wish to have counted in their series overall score. Points for series overalls will be figured retroactively for up to three races for first time Citizen registrants, but only one race for all others! (To receive retroactive credit a competitor must write that they are requesting retroactive credit along with their number from the race(s) for which they are requesting retroactive credit on their series registration form).

WORS will inform those registering

by April 15th of their series number by e-mail and will begin assigning numbers on April 1st (specific number requests will not be given priority after March 31st). Those registering after April 15th will receive their number assignment at the WORS tent at their first event.

A racer may not compete in Sport with a Citizen number and vice versa!

WORS timing system will not accept an incorrect number and your data will

fail to appear on the results.

WORS Guidelines are reviewed and modified each year to reflect changes in the series. WORS staff and the race directors of all WORS events make final decisions regarding the Guidelines and Rules.

be entered in the WORS Overall Raffle, a competitor must first have a WORS series number (see registration section of these

Guidelines). To be scored in WORS overalls, a competitor must compete in

a minimum of 6 series events (7 for Comp, Cat 1, and Pro) during 2013. For Citizen and Sport a competitor’s best 7 results will be used for tabulation of their final overall points. In the Comp, Cat 1, and Pro categories the best 8 results will be used. A competitor who competes in more than 7 events (8 for Comp, Cat 1, and Pro) will be awarded 5 bonus points per additional event completed (maximum of 30 points). DNF’s will remain 1 point. There are thirteen scoring opportunities over twelve races. In case of a tie, head-to-head results will be used to determine placing (first wins and then points if tie remains). If a tie still remains, a tie will be declared and both racers will receive equal awards, with the next place being dropped.

SPECIAL SCORING FOR THE SUBARU CUP: Participation in multiple events at the Subaru Cup offers two scoring opportunities toward a racer’s overall. 1) Each series racer competing in the cross-country will receive series overall points based on their placement against only other series racers within the class they are competing in. Subaru Cup categories & classes may vary. Participation in the Subaru Cup Legacy Cross-Country is required to be eligible for a second overall score. 2)The second scoring opportunity at the Subaru Cup comes from a series racer’s participation in either the Super D or the Short Track. Series points will be awarded for a racer’s placing amongst racers from their WORS category within the Subaru Cup Short Track or Super D age class (not normal WORS class) raced.

VOLUNTEER POINTS: Series competitors who forfeit participation in a race to help run the event may qualify for volunteer points. To receive these points, a point total equal to a racers lowest scoring race excluding DNF’s, a racer must: 1) contact the

race director at least 8 days in advance of the race to apply for acceptance to the race staff, 2) work a minimum of 5 hours on race day, and 3) pick up a VP (volunteer points) form from the WORS tent, fill it out, have their Race Director sign it and turn it in to WORS Timing & Scoring. A series competitor may include only one VP in their overall results. The VP will either replace a competitor’s lowest scoring event with a point value equal to the second lowest score or one equal to their lowest score depending upon the number of scoring events they have in their overall score.

POINTS: Points awarded at each individual WORS race toward series overall scores for Comp, Cat 1, and Pro overalls, as well as places within each age class for all categories, are listed in the WORS Series (Overall) Point Scale table on the next page. Points awarded for Cat 1 age classes are awarded by combining overall finish points with age class finish points.* Also requires a USA Cycling Annual Mountain Bike License and Wisconsin residency.

OFFICIAL RACK SPONSOR OF WORSMADE IN MADISON WI SINCE 1974

SARIS.COM

YEAR TWENTY-TWO wors 15

Page 18: WORS Racer Handbook 2013

Ê Only registered racers may compete in a WORS event. An official WORS race number plate and back number with age class clearly marked must be displayed by each racer. No competitor shall cut, fold, mutilate, apply stickers to or alter in any way their WORS number plate. Numbers are not transferable.

Ê All competitors must wear a properly secured helmet, complying to DOT or CPSC Standards at all times during competition as well as when pre-riding or warming up on the course. Competitors must wear proper riding attire, including a shirt, shorts, and fully-enclosed shoes during competition.

Ê Each competitor is responsible for having their bike in good operating condition, including but not limited to: two fully-functioning brakes, plugged handlebar ends, NO hazardous attachments including kickstands and reflectors, adjusted hubs and headset, true wheels, and a sound frame (no cracks, severe bends or dents). Race and/or WORS officials may remove any racer from the start whom they feel is attempting to compete on an unsafe bike. Racers must start with and ride the same bike throughout any single event.

Ê Personal listening devices which may interfere with a racer’s awareness of other racers and their surroundings are strictly prohibited on the race course.

Ê All Competitors must be self sufficient. All repairs during a race must be performed by the individual racers. Tools and spare parts used in a repair must be carried by the racer.

No off-course assistance is allowed and racers may not “cannibalize” or accept any parts off anyone else’s bike during a race.

Ê Deviation from the marked course will result in disqualification unless the competitor reenters the course at point of exit. This includes ducking under any flagging marking the boundaries of the finish chute. A competitor that purposely leaves the marked course during competition is deemed to have retired from the race and will be scored as a DQ or DNF.

Ê Feeding and/or “hand-ups” to a racer from a support person may occur on any part of the course with the following stipulations: 1) all those feeding must stand to the right just off course, 2) running with a racer is prohibitted, 3) feeding must not interfere with another competitor. This is an override of USA Cycling Mountain rules and is in effect throughout WORS.

Ê Self feed bottle despensers or the like must be located in a disignated feed zone near the start of the lap.

Ê Any competitor littering the course with a gel packet, food wrappers or other waste will be disqualified!

Ê A competitor on their bike has the right-of-way over one pushing their bike. Whenever a competitor is off their bike, they need to make every effort to allow access to the fastest/most rideable part of the track to racers on their bikes.

Ê Lapped racers must yield the track immediately. A lapped racer by definition is one from the same starting wave as the overtaking racer.

Other racers being overtaken should make every effort to let faster riders by as soon as the course allows.

Ê It is the responsibility of an overtaking rider to pass safely. No racer is expected to stop their race to allow other racers to pass. However, no rider shall intentionally impede the progress of another. A rider should make his/her presence known when overtaking a slower rider (i.e. “On your left. Please!”). Especially in singletrack, await return communication from the rider being overtaken that it is safe to pass. A rider passing another is expected to do so in a manner which requires the least accommodation from the rider being passed.

Ê The use of profanity or flagrant discourtesy directed at another competitor, race worker, or spectator is grounds for disqualification from an individual event, first offense, and WORS upon the second offense!

Ê Mountain biking is an individual sport, and even though WORS does have a team competition, entering into agreements or forming alliances (monetary or otherwise) to control or alter the results of a race will result in disqualification from that individual event.

Ê Pre-riding the race course after the start of the first race of the day is prohibited! On race day the only individuals riding bicycles on the race course should be those entered in the category(ies) competing at the time. Interference with another’s race by doing so is grounds for disqualification, (i.e. an Elite racer

riding on the race course during the Sport race in such a way as to cause alteration of results or put Sport racers in danger).

Ê A race may be halted or rerouted by the race director or emergency personnel in case of severe injury to a rider or life threatening weather. Racers failing to heed the instruction of medical personal and/or course marshals attending to an injured rider will be disqualified!

Ê Protests of the results, the conduct of a racer, or any other matters related to the race, may only be filed by a competitor in the event or a race official. Protests must be reported to or filed with a timing official within 10 minutes of the completion of an event, initial posting of results in question, or a ruling to be considered valid. All results become final as of the presentation of awards.

Ê The sale of merchandise or display of products for promotional purposes at WORS events without the permission of WORS and the individual event director is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to banners, tents, and anything not permanently attached to a vehicle that a competitor has driven to an event.

Divisions• Unlimited Team: Teams with more than 20 members compete in this division. (Registration fee: $55).

• Large Team: 13-19 racers . (Registration fee $45).

• Mid-Sized Team: 7-12 racers. (Registration fee: $35).

• Small Team Division: 2-6 Racers. (Registration fee: $25).

• Junior: Teams in this division will be made up of registered WORS racers 18 years of age (as of 12-31-12) and under. Team rosters for this division are limited to 10 or fewer racers and are encouraged to include 20% female racers. Multiple teams from the same shop, sponsor, etc. are strongly encouraged. (Registration fee: $20).

Only racers registered with WORS and having a WORS Series Number will score points for their team. A Team Competition

Registration Form (along with team roster) must be turned into WORS and have each competitor’s WORS series number and name on the roster.•A registered WORS racer may only ride for one team. (This includes junior team members.) •A team may enter one or more teams in the Junior Division, but only one team in any of the other divisions.•All riders listed on a team’s roster will have that team’s name listed with their name on all WORS results postings.

Team Changes: Competitors who change teams during the series should notify WORS as soon as possible after the change via a team modification form. The team points they have earned prior to notification will remain with their previous team. Team points cannot be contributed to their new team until the next year.

RegistrationTeams must register by July 15th.

However, teams have through the sixth race to make additions to their rosters. Team points will be awarded retroactively through the date each team member began racing with a WORS series number. Team members who change categories during the season and reregister with WORS will receive credit for both categories.

Pick up a team registration form from the WORS tent at a race or on the website at www.wors.org. Turn it in to WORS by July 15th, 2012. Team scores are figured retroactively back to the first race for which each team member had a 2012 WORS series number.

Team ScoringParticipants: To receive credit toward the “Participants” awards in WORS Team Competition a competitor must have a valid WORS series number and must either finish the race with a recorded time or report their DNF to timing the day of the race. Teams receive one point for each team member, meeting the above criteria, towards the “Participants” competition. Points: Points for the “Points” competition of WORS Team Competition are figured by taking the series overall points each team member earns (see WORS Guidelines, WORS Scoring) and multiplying those points by the class multiplier. No points are earned for DNFs or DNS’s.

Only racers listed on the team roster that accompanied their team registration form will be scored.

445-4744 (eve), or [email protected]. Sponsoring the Iola Bump and Jump continues to be an enjoyable experience for the Iola Winter Sports Club volunteers because of the great attitude of WORS participants. Club members volunteer year after year to work the race and to be part of the fun and excitement that WORS brings to the small friendly community of Iola. The Iola Winter Sports Club’s mission is to carry on a ski jumping tradition, provide low cost youth and family ski programs, and provide high quality cross-country skiing for its members. Proceeds from the Iola Bump and Jump help the club continue to improve the facility. Race director, Phil Johnsrud and the Iola Winter Sports Club want to make this event the best it can be. If there is any way for them to make this race better for you, please let them know.

The Iola Bump and Jump race course evolves a little each year based on racer input, rider and spectator

safety, and the condition of individual sections of the track. However, the overall character that makes this course a favorite of many remains constant. The start loop that takes racers up and around the back side of Iola’s 40 & 60 meter ski jumps and then drops back down past the lodge into the jump bowl may be the best lead-out in all of WORS. In addition, several minor singletrack modifications have been made to improve the racing experience for all. For the youngest novice racers, the Hayes Disc Brakes Kid’s Race course provides an opportunity for them to expand their skills. With the start and finish areas near the ski jumping bowl, the Bump and Jump offers spectators many fantastic opportunities to view their favorite riders. A post-race spaghetti dinner will be provided free of charge to all racers by the Iola Winter Sports Club, with other concessions available in the ski chalet. Onsite rough camping will be available for $10 per car first-come,first-serve. Nearby Iola Pines Campground provides full facilities, but fills up fast (see ad below for contact info). For more details and race registration information, please contact race co-director Jon Novak at 715-445-2411 ext.214 (day), 715-

Nestled in the pristine Northwoods of Wisconsin, the Crystal Lake Scout Reservation is the perfect place for outdoor adventures. From simple overnight camping opportunities to weeklong summer camps to kayaking in the Apostle Islands, our camps offers a wide variety of programs to fit everyone’s need.

Where Camping is King | WWW.CampingisKing.Com | 715-365-3111

In 1997 a Rhinelander area Fire Department with the help of several volunteers started a mountain bike

race created by Bikes-N-Boards, a premier outfitter for outdoor sports. Now run by the Boy Scouts of Samoset Council, this race will help fund the world renowned Camp Tesomas facility open since 1935 where youth from around the globe have come to enjoy the Northwood’s. Camp Tesomas (Hanna Venture Base) is located only minutes north of Rhinelander, where it’s set on the shores of Crystal Lake, a beautiful spring fed lake deserving of its name. This pristine setting is perfect for mountain biking with the lake making an excellent choice for cooling down after a hard ride through the woods.2007 marked the first year that this Mountain Bike Race was affiliated with the WORS. The race begins and ends at Camp Tesomas (Hanna Venture Base). The trail also traverses lands owned by the School District of Rhinelander, Plum Creek, Inc., and Terry Strong. We thank each of them for their cooperation in allowing this trail to exist. And a special thank you to Wayne Fish, for his dedicated hours of trail work. We are indebted to his dedication to this race. Wayne was taken from us by brain cancer and this race is now dedicated to Wayne Fish. His

dream of a premier race in the Rhinelander area will live on in his honor for years to come. The course is heavily f o r e s t e d , containing a mix of hardwoods and pine plantations. The soil is ideally suited for mountain biking, made up of rock, sand and clay. Rain or shine, the surface holds up well to the pounding of bike tires. The rolling terrain also creates a tough, exhilarating, yet fun bike ride.We have cabins and campsites available during the weekend. And we are one of the only races that provide every racer with shower and bike wash facilities. And don’t forget we have the state’s largest climbing tower and zip-line open for your enjoyment with boating and other activities to keep everyone in the family happy.

This WORS event is consistently one of the top drawing races in the series. Staged at one of

the Midwest’s premier cross-country skiing areas, Nine Mile Forest, it takes full advantage of this area’s abundant single track and wide open rolling ski trails to provide mountain bikers with a two wheeled thrill ride. The single track of this race course will keep you tightly gripping the bars and searching for the best line however, racers will need to be prepared to shift to their big ring as they roll out onto the ski trail segments.Nine Mile, just 4 miles west of Wausau, has over 25 combined miles of wide fast rolling cross country ski trails and twisting rocky single track through the forest. The expansive trail network offers numerous options for course placement to challenge all ability levels and allows for a longer overall course with less lapping. For 2013 the fast rolling start and sprint finish will remain the same as previous years. However, additional single track will be added earlier in the lap for all categories to enjoy!Whether your forte is hammering on the wide open rolling hills or carving a line through technical terrain, you’re assured a great ride at this event.Pre-riding begins at noon on Saturday. All bicycle riding at Nine Mile requires a $4 trail pass. One pass will be good for both Saturday and Sunday. There will be limited on site rough camping available Friday and Saturday, on a first-come first-serve basis, with porta-potties, water, and limited fires based on forest regulations. For other camping and lodging arrangements, please call the Wausau / Central Wisconsin Visitors Bureau at 1-888-948-4748. The Red Eye Trail Run starts the race day on Sunday, beginning at 8:30 a.m.. On-site/late registration available Saturday 3-6 PM and Sunday beginning at 7 AM.Make sure you are at Nine Mile for the The Red Eye Rendezvous!Presented by MPR: Muddy Paws Racing, “Promoting dirt in the Midwest”

into one of the hidden gems of mountain biking in Wisconsin. CORP is a volunteer organization that builds and maintains the majority of the off-road cycling trails in Dane County. We are working diligently to make the Battle of CamRock a race that you will look forward to every year. The trail system at CamRock is a blend of wide and fast flowing single-track that runs through open fields of prairie grass, wooded single-track with bermed turns, and more technical single-track with a touch of roots and rocks. The Battle of CamRock’s course contains some great downhill sections that will have you begging for another lap. The 2013 Course will add 1.5 miles of super fast, wide double track. The course is being revised to break up the passing sections and single track to make the race even more competitive. From Citizen to Elite, all courses contain fun single-track, numerous feed zones, and finish with a grass

It’s hard to believe, but this will be the 9th Annual Red Flint Firecracker hosted by the Chippewa Off Road

Bike Association (CORBA). The Firecracker has become known for fabulous trails and a family friendly venue. The Eau Claire County Expo Center allows us to offer onsite camping both Friday and Saturday nights so that you can sit back and enjoy your weekend. All race proceeds go directly to trail building throughout the Chippewa Valley. Are you also a runner? Add a little more to your weekend by signing up for the Firecracker Trail Run and choose between a 5K or 10K race through the singletrack. Racers can plan on finding the course ready to pre-ride on Friday afternoon. Pre-riding will allow you to test your cornering skills, wind your way through the pines and catch air on our new trails. Our goal is to provide you great trails AND an incredible weekend of bikes and camaraderie. Saturday, June 29th will be filled with course pre-rides, our popular All-You-Can-Eat pasta feed (a fund raiser for McDonnell High cross country team) and hanging out by the bonfire. You may even want to top the evening off with a night ride!

Start your race day with an amazing All-You-Can-Eat breakfast (fundraiser) that will be sure to fuel you up. Once you’ve completed your race, relax at the Racer Lounge and enjoy the shade, free snacks and water. And don’t forget, we will have great swag for all registered racers!!!! As always the course will be very spectator friendly with plenty of elevated viewing areas. We will also have concessions for sale. Not racing? We are always in need of volunteers, who also receive a swag bag PLUS a tshirt! Please be s u r e to watch the CORBA message board and our Facebook page for course updates and race enhancements that are still being worked on. We guarantee you will not be disappointed!

Page 54: WORS Racer Handbook 2013

Sunburst Ski Area and Attitude Racing are looking forward to hosting WORS racers for this July event

with great riding and racing on the trails at Sunburst. Through the years WORS racers have seen the race and the area evolve. Sunburst Ski and Recreation Area is already home to the best winter skiing, snowboarding, and tubing in Southern Wisconsin and is always getting better. Set in the heart of the Kettle Moraine, the Sunburst race course offers climbing and descending like no other course in WORS. Parts of the track present road race like speed, while others challenge competitors with tight twisting sections of wooded and rocky technical singletrack. A spectator’s dream, the Sunburst venue is wide open. Racers start and finish in a central area and serpentine their way up, down, across and around the slopes of Sunburst with a large portion of the course visible from the aforementioned central area. The speed of this course tends to keep the racing tight. Race director, Dave Haase and his staff of friends,

teammates, the Sunburst Ski Patrol, and other volunteers are always hard at work on improvements for the Showdown. Come August 3rd and 4th, WORS racers will be able to put the terrain of Sunburst to full utilization. Dave and company have put in their order for a dry sunny weekend. The Sunburst Ski Patrol and Sunburst Ski Area will assist on this wild ride to make the Sunburst Showdown a classic mountain bike race. Don’t miss out on all of this WORS style fun. Rough on-site camping is available a short distance from all the action and the Ski Patrol has a dinner in the works for Saturday evening.

A burning climb right from the start, dizzying single track, and fast fire roads all in the urban setting of

Milwaukee County. The Alterra Mountain Bike Team proudly presents a true mountain bike race. Welcome to the Alterra Coffee Bean Classic. A challenging five to six-mile lap snakes its way up, down, and around The Rock Sports Complex. Racers of all levels get the chance to experience a little of everything in-cluding “Craters Climb,” the “Small Intestine” Single Track, and “Switchback Downhill,” that will keep you hanging on all the way to the end. This venue puts Friends & Family in perfect position to cheer on their favorite racer(s) all day long. We will once again include the Alpha Trail section; this section adds about another mile of Single and Double Track to the lap length of the course. As most of you know the Alpha Trail makes the race even more exciting!! We’re always trying to add new elements to increase the overall challenge of the Alterra Coffee Bean Classic. Alterra Coffee Roasters will once again have its coffee bar open to pour the free, locally roasted coffee, whether

your preference is hot or cold. Lakefront Brewery will have ice-cold beers on tap. The Alterra Mountain Bike Team is a Grassroots Team focused on riding hard at every level, leaving every last drop of energy on the trail. But most importantly, we have fun in support of our fellow riders! That mission carries through every element of the Coffee Bean Classic! We ride bikes be-cause of the challenging fun, and that’s exactly what you’ll get on race day! Visit us at the Alterra Mountain Bike Team Facebook page. Please note: Any changes to the course and course condition updates, will be posted at Alterra Mountain Bike Team facebook page, and on the WORS message board and facebook page.

a.m., all other classes roll off the line at 11:30 a.m.! Although Sunday is race day, be sure to stop out Saturday for pre-riding, the Vendor/Exhibitor Zone, and Learn to Race clinics. Pre-riding will begin at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Like most state and county trails, a trails/rider fee is required and will be collected at registration, with two day deals available. Plenty of lodging is conveniently located on either of the major highways, 43 or 41. Rough camping will be available close by at a nominal fee. Racers are being asked to bring a new book to donate to the Give a Kid a Book Campaign, a Green Bay area non-profit created with a goal of putting new books in the hands of kids in need at Christmas time. Books are needed for all ages, from birth thru teens. The Titletown Flyers are proud supporters of the Give a Kid a Book Campaign.

Please remember that because of this events close proximity to

the N.e.W. Zoo, there are no pets allowed.

With over 1600 acres of forest land at the Brown County Reforestation Camp....there is plenty of

room for the marathon format of racing to continue to flourish in Suamico, WI at the Reforestation Ramble. WORS continues to offer a variety of different courses to keep the racing fresh, the Ramble is definitely a bit different than the rest with longer laps containing a nice mix of single track, double track.....and the energy zapping rolling hills that have become a must have feature of the Reforestation Ramble. The laps are fast, the single track flows, the double track is wide open.....the speed trap will be in full effect and pack racing may just be the ticket.....if you can hold on to the wheel in front of you? The sandy based soil holds up well no matter what the weather, so fast fun racing is a guarantee when you take the start line at the Reforestation Ramble. The late August date serves as a nice warm-up for the Chequamegon 40, which takes place just a few weeks after the Ramble. So come on out to the Reforestation Ramble for one last tune up for the 40 or to simply push yourself like never before! Please note the different start times for the Reforestation Ramble, remind yourself and fellow racers that the Ramble does not follow the traditional start times due to the distances of each category. Citizen Youth take off at 9:30 a.m., Citizen at 10

This inaugural event marks what is anticipate to be a long and mutually beneficial

relationship between the mountain bike riders of the Midwest and one of Wisconsin’s premier ski area, Cascade Mountain. A first for WORS in many ways, the Cascade XC for Kids is a fund raiser in support of the recently established WIN (WORS Interscholastic) Cycling, a not for profit organization devoted to the mission of the establishment of school-based mountain bike clubs in communities throughout Wisconsin. WIN is a resource for leadership, coaching, training, volunteer, fund raising and development programs, including the organization and administration of a scholastic race series to kick off with the 2014 school year. A test event for WIN Cycling is in the works for Saturday morning at the Cascade XC. So, there is a lot of work to be done. WORS will need your help with the estimate 1000 man hours of work necessary to construction trails at Cascade and WIN Cycling will need many volunteers and a lot of support to accomplish its mission and for the Cascade XC to raise much of the necessary funding to do so.To join in the trail efforts, please email Don at [email protected] to be put on the work notification email list. To become involved with WIN Cycling visit the WIN Cycling facebook page or tab at wors.org. We hope that you will come out and join in the support of this great cause. We encourage you to start a scholastic mountain bike club/team in your town. Please join us for the Cascade XC for Kids! We promise a unique experience that will leave you wanting to spend a lot more time riding and racing the trails of Cascade Mountain.

The Traditional finale of WORS, the Wigwam Mountain Bike Challenge, continues to be staged at Sheboygan’s

This venue allows for the conveniences of a city, with ample dining choices, showers, real bathrooms, and plenty of parking, while allowing competitors to feel as though they are in the Wisconsin Northwoods. One moment you will be concentrating on a tight singletrack in the midst of pine woods and then suddenly you will enter a spectator vantage-point where friendly cheers will pump up your adrenaline and push you forward. Sand, gravel, asphalt, mud, grass, pine needles, roots, and the famous “Sheboygan Slickrock”, this course has a bit of everything. There is one steep downhill and one very steep climb, the “Equalizer”. All riders will find a fun and challenging course awaiting them in Sheboygan. Spectators will enjoy the incredible viewing areas all around the course, so bring your camera and get a shot of your favorite racers. The Wigwam Mountain Bike Challenge is once again expected
